we'll begin with abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian spencer. okay dan and i'm a well the storm is winding down. let's take a look at what's happening right now and live up to seven and you can see that we still have some little pockets of mainly light rain and showers. however one little area of more moderate to steady rainfall has just developed reaching from sausalito across the bay to richmond, and then each without towards martinez and conquered, so we still have a storm, and it still is a hazard ranking. the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. the storm. is a level five yesterday level three earlier today, it's a level one right now through tonight. we expect more scattered showers and light rain with rainfall totals under 1/10 of an inch in most areas, slick roads, breezy conditions. here's our forecast animation going through the evening hours. we'll see the storm basically wind it down, but a few areas of light rain will develop in the north bay late tonight and overnight and that will continue into tomorrow . let me tell you what concerns we still have. flood warning remains in not long from now, e

still have flood watch, in effect for virtually all of solano county. that's until early tomorrow morning, and high surf warning remains in effect until three a.m. tomorrow large breakers reaching heights of 25 to 30 ft are likely to develop. we've seen some at that level already. even right now the heights are 21 to 23. ft. roads may be closed and there is a possibility of low lying property. being inundated. winter storm warning remains in effect in the sierra until four a.m. tomorrow another 1 to 2 ft of snow could accumulate above 6500 ft with gusts up to 50 mph difficult to impossible travel, obviously, and an avalanche warning is in effect in the sierra backcountry until seven am tomorrow, widespread, large and destructive avalanches may occur. avoid travel near avalanche terrain and looking at the actually the 70 forecasting. give it your preview of it right now. look at the lineup of storms. we have coming our way level. to saturday level to sunday, a level three monday and

>> video of some of the most extensive damage, coming out of capitola, where the high surf took parts out of the wharf and flooded hotels, homes, and businesses. zach furntes was along the coast today and took a look at the coast today. he joins us live from santa cruz. reporter: a few hours ago today, we would not have been able to stand where we are standing. that's how high the waves are. the video we are about to show you is proof enough of that. the debris we are seeing here has been keeping people in awe, people who know this was not here earlier. this is some of the most mild impacts we have seen here on the coastline. right now the cleanup is underway throughout santa cruz county and preparation for even more rain -- in preparation for even more rain. the capitola pier, split by high surf. just some of the devastating damage done to the popular capitola wharf in santa cruz

county. businesses facing the ocean, taking the brunt of the damage, tearing up buildings and other property. she says she's never seen conditions this bed. >> we had the first big wave come over the wall and come into our garage and bring debris underneath the cars and jump about 6 inches of sand in the driveway here -- dumped about 6 inches of sand in the driveway here. >> what we saw at that point was water coming out of the banks of the creek and then in dating people's homes, inundating businesses in the village. reporter: the village streets, filled with debris and sand crews have been working tirelessly to clean. capitola was not the only area devastated. take a look at the world famous cement ship that's been sunken into the sea ground for decades. the majority of the pier that once led up to it, disintegrated.

highway damage also shut down part of the wharf. he had been staying at a being a back his home along the san lorenzo river ahead of the atmospheric river. a long-term resident, he says it's been decades since he has seen these type of conditions. >> it's just been very bad. 1982 was worse. but i don't think we are done either. reporter: city officials say they continue to prepare for the worst. >> it's taking less and less rainfall to create problems because the soils are so saturated. reporter: back in capitola, the small city will work to continue being a loved destination. >> we have plans at this point to renovate the wharf and we will move forward in the relatively near term versus starting from ground zero. reporter: says even though high tide has subsided for now, they are still expecting large waves until tomorrow and more potential for high tide tonight. they're urging everyone to stay away from this beach. live in santa cruz county, zach

fuentes, abc7 news. >> officials say the saturated ground in san jose is partly to blame for a tree that came crashing down along highway 17 that injured a highway patrol officer. dustin dorsey has the details and a warning for others. reporter: a california highway patrol officer should consider himself lucky he's relatively ok today. a routine response to a traffic collision took a dangerous turn, as a massive tree toppled over onto highway 17 in san jose, and the chp officer responding. >> suffered some injuries and pain as a result of this. but nothing that is potentially life-threatening. reporter: after 10 a.m., two cars involved in a noninjury accident called for chp response south of the highway 280 and highway 17 interchange. three officers arrived on the scene and gusty winds blew through the corridor or a short while later. these a 40-60 foot trees have

been getting soaked due to all the rain we have been having. that's why with some powerfulwinds here today, the tree was able to fall down the officer responding to the crash. crews arrived on scene quickly and began to clear the large tree off the roadway. traffic was slowed for at least an hour. the chp officer says highway has received around 150 weather-related reports since the storm began. but he's never received a call like this in his 14 years with chp. >> we understand it is a potentially dangerous situation. our officers are highly trained, they take the utmost percussions, but occasionally there are things that happen that put officers in a situation where we see something like today. reporter: officer lee says he is thankful everyone is ok and says this highlights the importance of good driving during stormy weather. >> we urge people to continue to remember the safety messages,

the drive safe and make responsible choices. reporter: dustin dorsey, abc7 news. >> pg&e crews are spread out across the bay area and northern california trying to restore power. as of 4:00 p.m. a little over an hour ago, roughly 46,000 customers are still in the dark, utility officials say the lights will not be coming on soon for some of the customers. >> because of the many hazards crews are facing, we anticipate customers are still without power will take a little bit longer to restore, because we don't have access to many of the areas, or we have really dangerous conditions for crews, trees falling around them, floating soil movement when trying to restore service. reporter: officials say at the height of the storm, more than 440,000 customers were without power. >> still ahead -- a security guard, shot and killed in japan town. tonight, two children

>> the security guard shot and killed in japan town has now been identified as 40-year-old gavin boston. >> tonight, two teenage boys are in custody. we are seeing surveillance images now taken moments before the shooting. we have the story. reporter: merchants of the mall placed flowers where security guard gavin boston was killed last night. we obtained surveillance pictures of boston and one of the teenagers being escorted out of the mall. the second teenager not shown in these pictures. surveillance video. >> escorting a young man out the

door and then we saw what looked like one gunfire taking place. reporter: police were able to arrest the teenagers, 114, the other 15 years old. -- one 14, the other 15 years old. >> i don't know what the motive behind this was, but those details will come out with the investigation. reporter: so far there is no reason to believe this was any kind of hate crime. but how do you explain to youngman -- two young men have been arrested for murder and accessory to murder? the san francisco their community failed the teens. >> somebody was not disciplined, trains, exposed, and given guidance. reporter: a member of the street violence intervention program believes social media is somewhat responsible for promoting this type of violence. >> they see a lot of things promoted on social media, which

work is really just beginning. reporter: the sounds of cleanup in the wake of wednesday's storm. san francisco public works teams, out in full force. >> i've been in so many bad ones but this one was pretty ferocious, and i would say probably one of the worst ones i have dealt with reporter: high winds, downing hundreds of trees throughout the city, including this one trapping a family in their car, trees toppling power lines, and more. >> a large cypress tree over here fell across both the tracks and took out the electrical lines for the trains and compromised the large eucalyptus tree. reporter: now this tree along with others must come down. >> we had some other smaller acacia trees behind you that are now undermined with soil saturation and actively falling. we are just taking advantage of that to get this area as safe as possible and cleaned up. >> the storm was 16 hou

this is my last stop of the day but it's been stuff like this all day, wires down, trees on cars. >> had extra crews on duty last night and people coming in today. we don't want to wear them out too much but we are working around the clock. reporter: crews, chipping away one tree, one branch at a time. >> last night we got to 15 trees. it may not seem like a lot out of 300 but it is when you're talking about huge projects like this. reporter: as the cleanup continues behind me, public works says it can take up to another week to get all these downed trees. >> members of the public are going to be seeing branches on the sidewalk and curbs. it may take another week or two to get to them considering we've got another series of storms coming in. reporter: tara campbell, abc7 news. >> now that the rain has moved out for now, what is next? >> or whether anchor is here, timing out what we can expect the next few hours and days.

these are the forecast headlines. scattered showers remain with us and light rain tonight. dry periods develop tomorrow, but some showers are also lingering. a series of storms will pound the bay beginning saturday. was left of the current storm -- what's left on the current storm is a level one. through tonight, we expect more scattered showers. rainfall totals will be under a tent of an inch in most locations. it will be breezy. there goes the storm with the animation. it will disappear quite quickly giving way to low temperatures to an end mid to upper 40's. heist tomorrow mainly on the upper 50's -- heighs tomorrow mainly in the upper 50's. an avalanche warning in the sierra country. here's a seven day forecast. you can see the line of storms saturday and sunday, level two, level three. it is probable that more flooding is underway.
