i'll have the soggy forecast abc 7 news at 11:00 starts right now. building a better bay area moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. what a storm it was good evening. i'm on a date and i'm dan ashley. thanks for joining us. the skies may be clear tonight, but the damage has certainly been done. we have our full team out tonight assessing the damage and following the bay area's path to recover. let's first start with spencer christian because we could still have many more days of rain ahead spencer oh indeed. we could i just want to give you a look at what's happening right now and lived up with seven just the last little blast of the dying storm. we've got some moisture just offshore about to move on to our produce some light scattered showers. not much of that but just look back for just a moment at the rain fall totals from yesterday's and today's storm over five and one third at finato over two inches sfo at oakland 4 and 1/3 inches in redwood states and down to that area.

we call the rain shadowed area, san jose got under an inch of rain and the wind gusts with that storm 101 miles per hour at pablo point 89 miles per hour at lucas valley miles per hour at los gatos. we still have with all the flood watches and one is having expired now. we still have a high surf warning in a state in an effect until 3 am tomorrow all along the coastal areas there we have elevated wave heights dangerously elevated. so stay away from the coastline. and yes, there is a lot more rain on the way drenching storms next week. i'll give you all the details in my accuather forecast just a little bit later. i'mma all right spencer. thank you. it is perhaps the most staggering flooding we've seen in quite some time powerful waves wind rain and all creating the perfect storm along the coast of santa cruz the county coastline saw the worst damage of the storm from businesses and hotels to peers in neighborhood blocks tonight abc's 7 news reporter amanda del castillo shows us the focus is on cleanup even as more rain is on the way.

it is an unusual in capitola coming to capture the area's beauty. but thursday evening any photo taken told a story of a powerful storm. eat of the picturesque seaside complex of colorful houses that line capitola beach took a blow. there are eight foot logs that went through the doors of these houses and then just tore the house is apart inside. and i mean there's a lot of damage say they may or of. i'm guessing unless they rebuild longtime resident. dan barker was out among the crowd of curious onlookers many noting the worst began with high tide at 8:30 thursday morning. what we saw at that point was water coming out of the banks of socal creek and inundating people's homes inundating businesses in the capital of village by thursday night businesses on the ocean side of the village showed significant damage a resident shared this

drone video showing what's left of the once expansive outdoor patio at zelda's on the beach in the distance the capital of peter split by high surf. dharmash patel owns the capitola hotel yesterday evening. we got the actual evacuation notice. so that's when you know, the employees locked up and and left good news. his hotel has been green tact bad news without power and utilities. a long way to go until hotel guests are able to return and business is able to resume. unfortunately, the restaurants across from us weren't as fortunate. a lot of those are red tag, or yellow tag. it's gonna it's gonna be a lot of work and time for those for those businesses to come back. of course capital wasn't only santa cruz wharf and the world famous cement ship and aptos that's been sunken to the sea ground for decades a majority of the peer that once

led up to it gone. everything came together the wrong way of the big the big waves the king tide the wind the rain just everything just you know, it was just a perfect storm in capitola. i'm a medical studio abc 7 news. just remarkable and large waves cause significant damage to a mansion off the coast of carmel highlands today the video you see here shows waves reaching up to 60 feet causing severe damage to the back of a home and completely destroying a deck cal fire initially responded to a small structure fire ignited by a generator this morning nearby homes are under a mandatory evacuation due to the swell. luckily. no one was injured happening now plenty of power outages are still keeping many in the dark tonight, but things are quickly improving in the bay area right now. you're seeing pg&e's map of current outages. there are just about 21,000 customers with no power at last update. that's come down steadily from 1,000 this afternoon 80,000 this

morning and more than 100,000 at the storm's peak pg&e told us yesterday. it has more than 3,000 technicians responding in the field in the north bay. they are bracing for possible flooding this weekend along the russian river as it continues to rise people are already busy filling sandbags and guerneville where a landscape supply store says it has been filling bags by the hundreds the past few days flood stage is 32 feet. the river is expected to reach that by sunday a business owners are very aware of past floods and are showing up to shoring up what they can hoping to avoid getting swamped. the water here comes from behind. so it doesn't come from the river forward. you can swim all the creeks behind us. so the water comes from behind the building. so we got to seal up all the doors in the back too, which we didn't do last time. sonoma county is where one of the two deaths from this latest storm occurred a two-year-old was killed yesterday when a tree fell on his home in occidental. all right. now, let's move our attention to the east bay a group of neighbors at an oakland

apartment complex is fighting for answers. they're still living at an off-site hotel after their complex flooded five days ago. it's caused many headaches and stresses over when it'll be safe to return home abc 7 news reporter jr. stone caught up with some of them tonight to tell their story. i want to be home in. i just want to be at home feel comfortable the tears of an 11 year old represented east oakland community looking for answers serenity mendez. abadano and his family were displaced after their east oakland apartment complex coliseum connections flooded causing it to lose power saturday five days later and there is still no electricity families have been put up at a nearby hotel. i want to be a homework. i can do whatever i want to read me on my phone. and be a kid thursday night a meeting was held among displaced

families who say they want answers. mostly. i'm frustrated. i'm frustrated. i can't even wash clothes. i have i have a bucket of my dirty clothes in the back of my car. fbi management runs the complex in a statement. they say they have paid for resident accommodations that the hotel and say they're working with vendors to get the water pumped out of the garage and restore power to the building in that statement though. there is no time table on when residents may be able to go back home and more rain is expected in the next week oakland police commissioner regina jackson. was that thursday's meeting and says residents have a right to be upset. i'm horrified. it. sounds like blatant disregard for citizens who are in deep east oakland and don't have resources. it sounds that there was a significant delay and the property manager even responding to people all we haven't been told whethot we' gng back we' gonna stay

here or anything some though are optimistic saying after thursday's meeting they feel that management and city officials are taking the matter. seriously a home is doesn't have any power our home. it doesn't have any running water. it's it's dark and we want answers and we're starting to get them as a people. now know that it's a process jr. abc 7 news. san francisco has now seen its wettest 10-day stretch in more than 150 years according to the national weather service. it has over 10 inches of rain in that time frame. there's concern about the city's aging ficus trees. they are about 60 years old and made for pretty canopies in the city, but they are also prone to fall fairly easily. the city's public works department says it was expecting this and to please call 311 if you see one in your neighborhood that might be danger or already fallen. observations there were literally, you know dropping like night out

dark red swath from the middle map has now improved from exceptional to extreme drought. we're still far behind what we had at this point last year. storms this week are having an impact in many more ways than one the torrential downpour and winds are also hitting local restaurants and businesses hard abc 7 news reporter. tim. johns talked to some of them today and has the story. after days of heavy rain and back to back powerful storms smashing into the bay area many local businesses are feeling the impact some of the hardest hits restaurants. are those that stayed open. i heard had very slow sales basically lost money staying open lori thomas is the executive director of the golden gate restaurant association. she says ahead of wednesday's bomb cyclone. she joined many other businesses and closing down her restaurant early. we also looked at our reservations there were literally, you know, dropping like flies very few people people were canceling thomas says she wanted to keep both her staff and her customers safe. the reality is however many san

down friday tomorrow evening. however, there's another storm taking shape there just offshore that will move in. that'll be our level two storm for saturday. he'll get to that in just a moment mean well overnight tonight low temperatures mainly the mid to our 40s highs tomorrow up for 50s to about 60 and in the sierra as we showed you earlier still winter storm warning and effect there until 4 am and avalanche warning is in effect there until 7 am for the sierra backcountry and here is the accuweather seven day forecast and there is that series of storms level two on saturday level two on sunday level three on monday level two on tuesday and if we get the rain we expect to get from those storms, we'll have rainfall totals by next tuesday anywhere from four and a half inches here in san francisco to about seven and a half inches up at parts of the north bay. it's going to be a challenge for sure. all right. thanks spencer. okay back here in just a mom
