highest impacts. we are tracking light showers out there. for the most part, we are focusing on the north bay. that is the best chance of finding light showers. we anticipate this rain to remain light. today is a level one l storm. mainly light showers. in the north a lot of us. we will get a break from the wet weather. a couple of drops on the lens at the exploratorium camera. we will get a little sunshine. mostly cloudy, partly sunny depending on where you are. temperatures in the 50's. the best chance of finding rain showers will be at north bay. the weekend will be wet again. here is live doppler 7 along with satellite. here is the next storm approaching us for the weekend. a stronger storm moves in early next week. we will talk about the details in a few minutes. let's check in with jobina and see how we are doing with traffic. jobina: thank you. we are following a

daly city. it started as a police pursuit that ended in a crash. all lanes are blocked on southbound 280. we have the video that has just come into our newsroom in the last couple of minutes. you can see the impact of the area. according to the chp, at four: quote -- 4:30, they said this would open around an hour or so afterwards. maybe that is 5:30. all southbound lanes of 280 at ocean are closed this morning. kumasi: for a possible flooding along the russian river as it continues to rise. people are filling sandbags. a landscape supply store says they have been filling bags by the 100s -- by the hundreds. lena howland is on th that area. good morning. >> we are on our way. we are on 101, heading

northbound near petaluma. i wanted to say the biggest piece of information that folks need to know about this situation, as of today, is this river is not expected to reach flood stage until sunday at 32 feet. an evacuation warning is still in effect for people living near the river, between healdsburg and jenner. we were there yesterday as people were preparing for the worse. a landscape supply store said they had been filling sandbags by the hundreds over the past few days. as you heard, a lot of folks across this small town have been without power since wednesday night. that, combined with the threat of serious flooding, we talked to folks who were not taking any chances with this storm and decided to evacuate over to santa rosa for the next two days. >> basic necessities will close down and the fire department

will be busy doing rescues. you are kind of on your own. >> just shy of four years ago, most of gerd biville was underwater. it was so serious that there was no way in or out of the city except by watercraft that is why sonoma county officials are taking this situation so seriously this time around. because this river is not expected to reach flood stage until sunday night, moderate flooding will begin on late monday, into tuesday, once the level reaches about 35 feet. we will keep a close eye on that situation and give you another look once we get over to gurnee ville. in the petaluma howland. reggie: as the north bay prepares for floods, we are learning about the two-year-old boy who was killed after a tree

fell on his home. look how precious this boy was. his name was ian the storm pummeled occidental and the rest of the state. according to the gofundme, he was known as goldie because he shined like the sun. they say he loved to dance, loved music and that it moved his soul. he was kind and gentle and had thovg spirit. kumasi: happening now, some people are waking up in the dark this morning. things are improving really fast in the bay area. right now, we are looking at the map of the current outages from pg&e. there are 21,000 customers with no power at the last update. at the storm's peak, there more -- there were more than 100,000 customers without power. pg&e said they had 3000 responders in the field yesterday. reggie: the torrential downpour and winds are heading -- hitting

local restaurants and businesses heart. gloria rodriguez is live with the impact they are feeling there. gloria? gloria: good morning. we are live at the pacific up here. you can see the sign that says flooded. this area tends to flood when there is high surf. the water has dried up. one of the concerns is the business owners. because of the financial impact after days of heavy rain and back to back powerful storms, it has kept some diners away from restaurants. ahead of wednesday's bomb cyclone, lori thomas joined many other businesses in closing down her restaurant early. stfewante s people kept canceling reservations. thomas is the executive director of the golden gate restaurant association. >> it's unfortunate that those of us off in a negative

>> some business owners tell abc 7 that they are worried about rain that is heading our way. back here live in pacifica, we are seeing some intensive waves again this morning. live in pacifica, gloria rodriguez, abc 7 news. kumasi: this morning, several beaches along the coast are closed after the worst flooding we have seen in quite some time. this storm this week created powerful waves that slammed into the santa cruz and i area. damage is widespread from businesses to hotels to peers and neighborhoods. the focus is on cleanup, as even more rain is on the way. >> it is an unusual -- it isn' unusual to see crowds and capitola, coming to capture the areas beauty. the thursday evening, any photo taken told the story of a powerful storm. even a picturesque seaside

colorful houses that lined capitola beach took a blow. >> it just tore the house apart inside. -- houses apart i there is a lot of damage. they will lose five or six of those, i'm guessing unless they rebuild. >> dan barker was among the crowd of curious onlookers. the worst began with high tide at 8:30 on thursday morning. >> what we saw was water coming out of the banks of socal creek and inundating people's homes and businesses of the capital of tillage. -- capitola village. >> by thursday night, businesses on the west side showed significant damage. this shows what is left of the once expansive outdoor patio. in the distance, the capital appear -- capitola pier, >> we got the evacuation notice yesterday. that is when the employees

reggie: it is 5:15. the most contentious fight to become house speaker in 100 -- 164 years is entering its fourth day. there have been 11 failed votes. a 12 is set for when the house reconvenes at 9:30. another last-ditch effort from kevin mccarthy to break the stalemate. >> kevin mccarthy is getting closer to a deal to gain support of at least 12 more republicans. att eno win. he has six holdouts and can only lose a total of four votes to secure the job. carthy has been working to make deals, agreeing to change house rules to allow a single member to force a vote to remove the speaker. that has not been enough. spike the struggle to gain any new votes, mccarthy says the standoff will -- despite the struggle to gain any new votes, mccarthy says the standoff will go as long as it takes for him to win.

yesterday are an expansion of rules announced for venezuelans back in october. the white house says they significantly cut down on illegal crossings on -- from people from that country. jobina: on the left is a map released yesterday. this reflects measurements before the storm this week. the main change you see is the dark red swath on the middle map has improved from exceptional to extreme drought. we are far behind from what we had at this point last year. i want to go back live outside for a look at the sierra. this is a live picture from our camera along south lake tahoe. this is just across the state line of nevada. it is gorgeous to look up at the road conditions are such a different story. -- look at.

she says it is unfortunate they are starting the new year in a negative financial position. live in pacifica, gloria rodriguez, abc 7 news. reggie: in san francisco, work to clean up from the storm could take weeks. crews have been working around-the-clock to clear hundreds of trees that came down on wednesday. one ended up trapping a family in their car. crews are taking some downed trees that are unstable because of the unsaturated soil. >> we had smaller trees behind you that are now undermined with are saturation and. this area asafe.reggie: branches on the sidewalks and curbs for the next few weeks with more stormy weather in the forecast. san francisco has seen its wettest 10 day stretch in more an 150 years. that is according to the national weather service. we received over 10 inches of rain in those 10 days.

families have been put up at a nearby hotel. >> i want to be at home want. read and be a kid. >> a meeting was held among families who are displaced, who say they want answers. >> mostly, i am frustrated. i can't even wash clothes. i have a bucket of my dirty clothes in the back of my car. >> fpi management runs the complex. in a statement, they say they have paid for resident accommodations at the hotel and are working with vendors to get the water pump out of the garage and restore power to the building. in that statement, there is no timetable on when residents may be able to go back home and more rain is expected in the next week. oakland police commissioner regina jackson was at thursday's meeting and says residents have a right to be upset. >> i'm horrified.

have showers and downpours. gusty us saturday evening on the level of 30 to 50 miles per hour. that could take some trees down and keeps our flood threat elevated. a flood watch is in effect for the entire bay area, starting saturday morning, lasting through tuesday. here are the rainfall estimates as we head over the weekend. the highest amounts look to fall in the north bay where we could pick up one to three inches of rain. around the bay shoreline and for a lot of us, the estimate over the weekend is half an inch to an inch of rain. but still, that can cause issues with localized flooding. a stronger storm hits is on monday. we will talk about that in eight minutes. let's check in with jobina. jobina: we will begin with a live picture in oakland, showing you the 880 coliseum camera. the big picture for the commute is aside from a couple of issues, everything is so different from the commute the last two days and that is good news.

reggie: today marks the second anniversary of the january 6 u.s. capitol insurrection. president biden is marking the occasion with a solemn tribute this morning. there is a new lawsuit stemming from the death of an officer who defended the u.s. capitol. jobina is live with the latest. jobina: officer brian sicknick died from injuries he suffered during the u.s. capitol attack rate his longtime partner has

filed a wrongful death lawsuit against former president donald trump and two others in the crowd that day. officer sicknick was assaulted with bear spray during the u.s. capitol attack and died from a stroke on january 7. according to the medical examiner. the lawsuitand claims that offir sicknick's death was direct and foreseeable consequence of the defendant's unlawful actions. a spokesperson for former president trump is saying president trump clearly and unequivocally stated americans should peacefully and patriotically make their voices heard. harry dunn worked with officer sicknick. he says the attack was vicious. he was called racist slurs and says that former president trump is responsible for what happened that day. >> he needs to be held accountable. and that is why if all eyes are on the -- that is why all eyes are on the justice department right now. they are the ones who can bring forth account ability.

>> today, officer done will be at the white house to receive the presidential civilian award from president biden. it is the second highest civilian award in the country. officer sicknick will receive the award, posthumously. president biden will present the award to state and local officials who resisted trump's efforts to resist the 2020 election, including rusty bauer, speaker of the arizona house. reggie: abc news will have a special rapport at 11:00 a.m. where president biden gives out those rewards. you can watch it on abc seven wherever you stream. kumasi: the nfl canceled the bills-bengals game. that was canceled after damar hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field. this morning, there are promising signs about his recovery. he is considered to be critically ill. hamlin's medical team says he is showing significant improvement. especially in the past day. he is on a ventilator but is able to write messages and hold hands with family members.

kumasi: the flood warning in san francisco has finally been lifted as of a few hours ago. san francisco has looked like a ghost town following several stormy days. washed away piers, several knocked down trees knocked down power lines. officials are trying to clean up the mess. waves pushed up over the as the storm passed into the city over the last 48 hours -- over the city over the last 48 hours. drew: some light showers this moaning. a lot of activity in the north bay and along the coast. for a lot of us, we are getting a nice break from the action
