it is generally seventh. i am liz, here with lisa argen. we are going to talk about more rain on the way andthe cleanup from this week's storms. a lot of rain. lisa: we have had some breaks, which is good news. multiple rounds of rain is why we have a flood watch throughout the weekend into tuesday as several storms continue to rotate through the bay area. right now, light rain i then further south -- rain, and highway 1. rain will be sweeping through the bay area throughout the day. we have our exclusive storm impact scale level two system with moderate rain and downpours, gusty winds, the flood threat entries down, so right through the weekend into early next week, we have a lot of rain coming our way. wind gusts up to 45 miles-per-hoas wino 50il

an hour. here is the plan. you can see the north bay rain through much of the morning but then through noon, it sinks to the south. there is more offshore. the heaviest rain heads our way this evening and takes us through the later evening hours. we are in the 50's. it is breezy, the wind is getting gusty, and we will see impacts increase with the flood threat, downed trees, possible downed power lines and mudslides for the next three days to four days. liz: thank you. we have more than it system expected, but, first, we want to tell you about that historic vote out of washington, d.c., after four days and 15 votes, kevin mccarthy has won the speakership of the house of representatives. as we report, the california congressman's win did not come without drama. >> after four days of voting, a new speaker of the house has been chosen. >> the honorable kevin mccarthy

at whatever is left. that is heavy stuff. amanda: an early estimate put widespread damage between 10 and $15 million. by friday evening, officials anticipate that number to more than double. capitola village ravaged, the wharf split by high surf and means closed. part of the collapsed. the popular cement ship damaged, and now it a great distance. >> we used to walk to the end of it and look at the pelicans out on the ship, and now you cannot get anywhere near them. amanda: across the county, 21 roads remain closed, including a section of the h drive, where we found significant flooding. residents are happy to have power restored. on friday, sharing their shock at the storm's aftermath. >> this is amazing how bad it looks. >> it is so sad. i don't know if there was any way to prepare. >> the waves were at least 30

feet high and the tide as we speak is the first i have ever seen it out. i have never seen anything like this year. amanda residents question how much more rain the area can take , and how long it will take to rebuild. >> we cannot predict it at this point. we don't know what will happen since it has been predicted for sunday and monday, and i think we should be prepared for a tough winter. amanda: the county reminding there is widespread storm damage and plenty of people struggling in the storm's aftermath. all of that a concern with days of rain still ahead. amanda del castillo, abc7news. liz: in the east bay, a collapsed blood controllable has residents fearful head of storm. the wall located in the manner neighborhood collapsed behind multiple homes. alameda county public works agency created a barrier with harps and sandbags. residents are concerned about the state of the wall. >> is a fear factor for many of

us here of this so-called atmospheric river that is coming our way. amanda: the mayor says he willas after monday' storm passes and residents may be eligible to file the claim with alameda county if they have been affected by the incident. let's take a live look from lake tahoe. 80 is quiet this morning but that is going to change. the city of south lake tahoe is warning people to be prepared for flooding. the concern is this could be a warm storm and dump a couple of inches of rain on top of snow. in martinez, there have been complaints about the air smelling like sulfur. the heavy rainfall overwhelmed storm water retention ponds. they released over 6 million gallons of storm and wastewater, leading to the carquinez strait. the health services says it will continue to monitor the air.

happening today, and h inauguration in san mateo county. sheriff elect christina corpas will be sworn in after bringing in more votes than her boss in last year's election. on her website, she says "i am so honored to be your san mateo sheriff elect, the first female sheriff elected in san mateo county in the first latina elected sheriff in california state history. the fda is giving the green light to a promising new alzheimer's drug with an 18 month clinical trial showing that the drug showed the rate of cognitive decline by 27%. that is considered a major breakthrough for those suffering from the disease. >> there is no reversal. it is not a cure that a person's decline slows. i will prescribe the drug in a carefully monitored way. liz: the treatment involves an iv infusion every two weeks. experts say the drug reduces the

much-needed leaf. this has been great for reservoirs. they have been getting a lot of water. that hasn't been the case the last three years. tara: but he explains it isn't just about local reservoirs. >> no more water we store locally, the less we bring in from outside the county. as far as the whole water supply goes, it is just a part of what it is. tara: and he is cautiously optimistic about what this wet weather is bringing beyond the bay area. >> we are seeing the snowpack, outstanding snowpack for january, at we are also seeing those reservoirs in shasta and oro built, seeing those go up, but they are still well below normal this time of the year. >> we must continue to remain vigilant and continue to conserve water. no single storm event will end the drought. tara: california's department of water resources warning -- >> we will need consecutive storms, month after month after month of above average rain, snow and runoff to help really refill our reservoirs. tara: and back in the bay area,

keller agrees. >> while we are seeing gains, we have a long way to go in certain areas to make up for what we lost over the last three years. tara: tara campbell, abc 7 news. liz: the california governor's office of emergency services will provide assistance to a few bay area counties, including swift water rescue teams and helicopter, pre-position to help in three counties. this as people are trying to recover from this week's storms. the south they may not have gotten as much rain as other places, but that does not mean recent rain and wind have not taken their toll. abc 7's dustin dorsey shows us how roofing companies are struggling to keep up with the calls. dustin: this guys may be ov blue overhead, but that doesn't mean we are done with the storm. the cleanup is just beginning, especially for roofing companies in the south bay. >> the roofing business is

interesting because every time it rains, you don't sleep well. [laughter] i have not slept well the past few nights. dustin: randy brown says what has been keeping, but not are the more than 150 calls for service and repair over the last few days of the storm. one of those calls coming from bensing lee''s house. >> it has been nuts. i was afraid the neighborhood was going to flood, and it was new year's eve when this happened, and i was just walking into the spare bedroom, and i was like, oh no one i saw a drip. dustin: luckily, it was minimal damage. crews are trying to service as many as they can to provide teorars until theo'sn, and a cleanup cabee after the storms pass. >> the plastic underneath that section, so any water that comes down the valley is going to collect on top of the plastic. dustin: picking up the pieces from an historic storm. > i have been here since 1994.

dustin:dustin: this is probably the worst? >> one of them. dustin: it isn't a just residential issues. alliance roofing has been dealing with damage at commercial buildings, as well. since thanksgiving, or than 400 calls for service, and it isn't just the rain causing the issue. >> a little bit of rain with no wind, a lot of times to get away with it, but when the wind blows like it has been blowing, you will end up with leaks if you have not been taken care of the roof. dustin: storms with more wind and rain are expected to return tomorrow and stick around through the next week. roofing companies remain busy and advise customers to stay patient. >> try and hang on until the weather can improve and we can get out and service to customers. liz: dustin dorsey, -- dustin: dustin dorsey, abc 7 news. liz: lisa argen is checking the forecast and what to expect with more rain on the way tonight, and then the most impactful date could be monday. lisa: right, monday morning through monday evening. we have had some breaks and that

has helped us, yesterday, even a portion of thursday, and we will hal into sunday and we need because two systems are headed our way, the weekend system and the monday through wednesday stronger system. here's a look at live doppler 7. this system not affecting much of the bay area yet, but we are looking at the north bay with light rain and gusty winds, so from pinegrove north to santa rosa, bodega bay, the rest of the bay area is quiet. the winds are picking up, 20 mile an hour lm in the inland valleys. that will be changing. upper elevation winds 38 miles an hour, mount diablo near then north bay. temperatures are in the 50's with southerly winds, so it is milder. here's a look at the wind profile that coincides with the strong cold front leader today. scattered showers. the front pushing to the south,

but here is a look at the heaviest rain from 6:00, 7:00, a 40 mile an hour wind gusts increasing to 50, and then through the late evening hours, we have gusty winds, heavy rain pushing through the bay. here is a look at the next hour. you will see the activity in the north bay and through afternoon's body, like to moderate, and it is really not until after 6:00 when the front is lined up, poised offshore, and will bring that very heavy rain, more like this evening. there are the yellows, the reds, after 9:00, and then by midnight, looking at the heavy rain. here is our lull on sunday and then late sunday, get set for system, level three, come monday morning into monday afternoon, so that first wave moves through quickly and then afternoon rain monday and then another lull. adding up rainfall totals for the weekend, over one inch in

richmond, hayward over two inches and one third in santa rosa. ben loman two inches, and the russian river is what we are watching, flood stages is 32 feet. tomorrow, 7:00, we get to that, looking like it is cresting 36.2 feet on thursday, and this is not the only river we are watching. there are some in the east bay, the santa cruz mountains that will be overflowing as we get into monday and tuesday. our winter storm warning for the west slopes, sierra nevada, through the weekend, and we are looking at ski resorts with gusty winds, a couple of inches at lake level, two less than a foot. another high elevation event, and the system monday and tuesday system with moderate to heavy rain. the flood threat, mudslides, and adding on to we can totals from two inches to three inches, san francisco up to the north bay, seven inches in the santa cruz mountains in highs today with this body of rain level two

>> how cold hasn't been on the north bay? this cold. that is abc seven reporting on a recent cold snap in the north bay. donald and his wife of santa rosa endured not only the cold with the loss of heat. their primary need to survive temperatures in the 30's had failed them. the couple relies on propane deliveries from amerigas. their delivery never arrived, even after informing the company that their tank had emptied. >> the excuse i got when i called in was the lack of gas. >> they survived on either take-out food or cooking on the barbecue. it also meant cold showers. fortunately, they still had their electric space heater. they could also cozy up to the fireplace. >> it was freezing, but i did not lose any pipes or anything. i did have to buy a new electric like it for my wife. >> donald kept things in perspective, watching the news

showers through marin, but overall, it has not moved in. as it does, you will know it later today. a level two system today and tomorrow. in the flood threat with possible trees down through tuesday. monday and tuesday is the stronger system and then through 11:00, 15 to 25 mile an hour southerly winds, gusting to 45, and there is a look at our 22 mile an hour wind gust at san francisco, upper elevation winds stronger, a 40 miles an hour, and take a look at the next few hours as the rain begins to fill in. it is still light at 1:00, activity offshore, and we will time it out, coming up. liz: san francisco continues to clean up from the wet weather this week. it is for volunteers who stepped up the answer for the call to help. they also prepared for the upcoming storm. abc 7 news met one of the

volunteers whose determination kept his community from flooding. >> here is the issue, clearing the storm drains, 25,000, has always been a challenge for the san francisco public utilities commission. that is why they have relied on volunteers through the adopt a drain program. >> we have 2500 volunteers who have already volunteered to take on about 3800 of those different drains. >> they want more residents to go online to take the plunge and commit to. adopting one of those drains >> we have david lenk here, our community partner, who has adopted eight drains on his very own to take response ability for. >> so eight storm drains. david lang, you are the man. >> with that many drains, that is the least we can do. you are walking the streets. and you not pick up trash? you cannot always wait for someone else to do it. >> he made sure one particular

public works announced they received more sandbags. so far, 13,000 have been handed out. >> we are preparing our staffing plans for the weekend and the week ahead because we are expecting more rain. last week, all through the week and next week, we will have extra crews on hand. liz: in the north bay, the russian river is expected to hit flood stage on monday. communities along the valley are clearing out of the valley ahead of another storm a few days. as it didn'ts in kernville and other areas -- resident s in kernville and other areas are expected to clear the area. >> this one looks like it is going to be pretty vulnerable and get up pretty high. >> are you scared? >> no. not at all. it is just a pain in the butt. liz: the threat of flooding is deja vu for some in the area. in 2019, heavy rain turned the

streets of kernville into swamps, leaving cars submerged in people used canoes together the area. one sonoma county family is dealing with a heartbreaking situation. their two-year-old son was killed during the storm after a tree fell and crashed into their home. abc 7's tim johns talk to the family about their devastating loss and brings us their story. >> it has been a nightmare, like living a nightmare. tim: for this family of sonoma county, the past few days have been unimaginable. during wednesday's tone, four trees fell on their house, destroying their home and killing their two-year-old son. >> and we called him goldie. so, goldie, is now place. tim: his aunt is spokesperson for the family. we spoke to her friday afternoon in the rubble of her brothers home. >> my mother came over pounding

before the arrest of bryan kohberger, he was seen thursday early cleaning his car using surgical gloves. the surveillance team also observed him leaving his home around 4:00 a.m., dumping his trash into the neighbor's garbage bins. shortly after, he was arrested through dna evidence. he is in jail as he awaits a status hearing on january 12, and you are looking at video crews carrying out furniture and other items from the victim's home. still ahead on abc 7 mornings, and election error. how and oakland school board candidate is filing a lawsuit after the announced them the winner and then took it back. he was a live look outside, looking out over the sap center. we will check in with what to expect the rain later tonight in the coming days. stick with us.

here is a live look over the bay. you can see the camera shaking from the wind. 6:41 this saturday. in alameda county, mike hutchinson is filing a lawsuit after the registrar found a mistake in the election results and he is now claiming victory. nick resnick is days away from being sworn into office. ryan curry has more. ryan: oakland school board candidate mike hutchison is iled a lawsuit to get a judge to overturn the already certified election results and declare him the winner over other candidate nick resnick. >> we have now filed in alameda county superior court, requesting a judge throughout the incorrect certification and certify the correct election results, which would make me the winner of oakland school district. ryan: the results show resnick

as the winner, but the registrar said before new years eve, that the voting system was not configured properly. we reached out to the registrar office for further comment and have not heard back. hutchinson says based on the corrected results, he is the winner. >> the city has laid out a process and formula that is supposed to be used for calculate that, and that is now corrected to produce these results. ryan: there is a sense of urgency coming from hutchinson and his legal team. on monday, oakland is said to inaugurate newly elected officials, which is said to be resnick right now. in a statement posted on his campaign website, resnick says "we question the validity and integrity. if there were mistakes the first time, there are chances there are mistakes the second time. the initial results were vetted to ensure accuracy and no errors were noted." supporters of hutchinson are calling on resnick to concede
