through again. joining us you are watching abc seven news at 11. it is another soggy saturday is the rain keeps coming our meteorologist joining us now with a look at the forecast. there is even lightning. >> yet lots of lightning happening, we are in this first round of a parade of storms headed our way, take a look at live doppler 7 i have it looping over the past few hours you can see this line of thunderstorms and lightning strikes and as we freeze and count them there have been about 134 heading in and

moving towards the north bay. and also moving toward san francisco in the next hour or so as we zoom in a little tighter you will see some of the thunderstorms almost a direct north-south line from ukiah south and check out the area of cloverdale that area of red is a heavy downpour. at some of those are where the rainfall could reach 1 inch per minute, or per hour rather. this is a storm to a moderate storm through tomorrow morning those moderate rain and downpours are expected with gusty winds and the threat of flood it remains. we could see more trees down. it is going to continue over the next few hours it will be heaviest and then tomorrow morning it will wind down giving us a little break. tomorrow before a level three storm heads our way. >> we will be watching that closely thanks. over at the east bay tense moments in castro valley this afternoon as firefighters spent almost an hour trying to rescue

a man and under a massive tree that fell on his home. our abc news reporter was there and watched the rescue he joins us live right now and what destruction behind you. >> that's right cleanup crews are done for the night but like you said you can see the tree in the middle-of-the-road after cracking through that house bringing down power lines. the fire department says the tree weighs between 100 and 200 tons the images you are about to see may be disturbing. responders were able to carry out this father who was trapped under a eucalyptus tree that fell through his roof. >> there was a loud explosion, a rumble my first thought was an earthquake and then the power went off. >> michelle austen lives by and says she helped comfort the man's wife as her husband was being rescued. >> the gentleman that was stuck

was stuck on the couch in the tree was being supported by part of the walls of the home and part of the couch so they were being very careful about securing the surrounding environment. >> several neighbors say the man is an officer with the oakland police department. >> the first company arrived on scene and found a house cut in half by a large eucalyptus. >> this battalion chief of the alameda county fire department says the tree probably weighs between 150 and 200 tons he says it took his crew almost one hour to free the man. >> we were able to do a lift with our equipment and give him some relief and pull him out. as a contingency we did have two cranes on scene but luckily we did not have to use them. >> some residents have said they've complained to the city about these massive trees that run along a creek behind the homes and the threat of them falling, jason rogers grew up on

neighborhood. the city manager now says that evacuation order will remain in effect until further notice and there is no need to evacuate further homes richmond is providing accommodations there monday for those evacuated. to the north bay where the center department says trees and power lines are down in and around the city. they showed a tree that fell onto a car that was being repaired, one person was injured and taken to the hospital and no word on their condition. and outside of forest county firefighters encountered this fallen tree across river road crews quickly broke the tree apart using chainsaws and clear the debris. river road is now back open. and in san francisco crews are still cleaning up from the last storm as this next one moves in. it was one week ago that a storm at swamped parts of the city flooding streets and businesses, some are fearful we could see a

repeat. abc seven news reporter tara campbell has been out on the elements and joins us from life along the embarcadero where you can see what is behind you. fortunately the rain is holding off but the high winds are starting to kick in we are getting gusts every once in a while earlier today we were out and about as people were preparing for what is expected to be another hard-hit. restaurant for another round of heavy rains recent storms hit san francisco's mission district hard. >> at least 4 inches of water on the sidewalk and we don't have sandbags and our customers opened the door and all the water is coming through. >> sandbags lining the surrounding blocks, public works barricading businesses and homes in hopes of holding off the

runoff. downtown the emergency operations center is fully activated. >> we are really preparing for it to come in late tomorrow and into monday and tuesday. >> crews are working around the clock to clean up from recent storms while preparing for the next. >> our sewer system has been able to successfully drain most of the flooding that we have seen and our tree crews have been doing job. >> officials urging people to be prepared and warning power outages are likely. >> we are asking people to stay home if they can just to write out the storm. the best way possible. >> as for done the prep work and is hopeful these sandbags are enough. >> they called me and said they are going to pick up a couple bags of sand and i think that is plenty for now. >> now if you are in need of some of those sandbags public works operations center will be

help we met one of the volunteers whose determination kept his community from flooding. >> here is the issue clearing those storm drains, 25,000 has been a challenge for the san francisco public utilities commission which is why they have relied on volunteers. >> we have 2500 volunteer take on about 3800 of those different drains. >> they want more residents to go online to take the plunge and commit to adopting one of those drains. >> we have david laying here who is our community partner who has adopted eight drains to take responsibility for. >> so eight storm you are the man. why do you do it? >> with that many drains it is the least we can do, you are walking the streets can you not pick up trash? you can always wait for someone else to do it.

public works announced today they have more sandbags, so far 13,000 have been handed out. we are also preparing staffing plans for the weekend and week ahead because we are expecting more rain so last week all through this week in the next week we are going to have extra crews on hand. >> in san francisco abc7news. >> as we mentioned earlier the cruise will be out distributing sandbags tomorrow in anticipation of what's to come. >> we then the atmospheric river moving in monday and tuesday let me show you what is happening now because it has been so active. we had a strong line of thunderstorms, numerous lightning strikes and these may even hit the ground. 34 right now through parts of the north bay and as we zoom in some of the heavier rain, the rain is where the precipitation rate is over one inch an hour and that is falling through napa and this will continue to move through the bay area.
