enrollment ends january 31st. >> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. >> flooding, landslides, in occupations and rescues. we are tracking the damage of the bay area continues to get battered by the thick atmospheric river -- fifth atmospheric river in less than two weeks. good evening. i'm on a gaetz. --on big dates. ana daetz. dan: and i am dan ashley. our abc 7 news team is spread out across the bay area, and we begin with abc 7 news meteorologist lisa argen. lisa? lisa? good evening to you. 101 south south of gilroy, we

have a flood warning, all throughout the afternoon, running until 8:30, also east of that area, a flood running in the next 45 minutes. but as we look at the area as a whole, all the wet weather is down around santa barbara. we have had a nice break today with big-time problems in southern california as we look at our storm report here over the vast day, we are looking at 107 reports, with one debris flow looking at 78 reports of flooding across the roadway. tree damaged, 28 trees down. boulder creek, 5.3 inches of rain, over four inches, almost five in saratoga, 3.7 and list a with over three in redwood city, 3.23, and almost 3.5 inches of rain. with two weeks of rain, you might be asking how much rain did we receive, san francisco, over 12 inches since christmas, santa rosa, over 13 inches, the oakland airport well over 100%

of average with 12.12 inches. you can see on top of mount tam, over 23 inches of rain. coyote creek now at 13.37 fe and the flood stage is just over 13.5 feet. we are expecting this river to kind of stay at the same area as we get into tuesday. more rain is expected late tonight, and we are expecting some heavy downpours, additional inch to two inches, so as we look at alameda creek near niles, pretty close to that. flood stage is at nine feet, and right now, we are over that, at 9.7 to come and by 4:00 tomorrow, we should be just above flood stage at 10.3 feet. we will have a look at the entire forecast, timing out the next storm, and looking at the next seven days with some clues, you guessed it, much more rain, dan and ama. dan: thank you.

in the east bay, increased flooding -- concern about flooding in the area, concerned that it will crest at 7:00 tonight at just over nine feet. residents say they have never seen the water as high or as fast as it is today. law enforcement is urging the locals to evacuate if they are elderly or have medical conditions, but they might not be able to get out quickly if there is a mudslide. ama: some of the worst flooding we are seeing is due to the use a river. images. >> a town underwater, the devastating reality development surrounding communities in the santa cruz mountains. >> this is bad. i knew it was going to get bad because everything is so saturated. >> drone video capturing homes completely saturated by floodwaters, the river hit its crest of 24.52 feet around 7:45 this morning, the second highest mark in modern history dating

back to 1937. water began to recede after that but residents in the area who did not evacuate had no place to go. >> we have the mudslides and the trees down and flooding, so we are in our one-way out canyon. >> sidney preston lives in the loan pico area of felton. mudslides and other major storm damage. elsewhere in felton, some of the iconic town sites like the landmark covered bridge completely flooded. a notorious flood in 1982 was the worst ever for this area. the river hit 28.8 feet then. the storm have many similarities, and she is concerned she will be stuck here for a while. >> it is one way out, so we are in here for the long haul. it might be days. in the past and been days, because they often don't get to us. >> not many people will begin and -- getting in and out of the area anytime soon due to other closures are throughout the area. we tried several apps to get to

felton. but many areas like highway 17 egg linwood drive are shut down. brian zettler was supposed to go over the hill for work, but he says it is not safe to do so today, especially on smaller roads. >> they have trees to go down over, they will get mudslides. six years ago, i had a tree on one side of me, and was looking straight down the cliff on the left side because it had washed out, you know, and you will get up in there and get pinned. >> know where you want to be when it is raining like this. >> no, no. >> caltrans is not set a specific time from when highway 17 may reopen, but workers we spoke with today said that might be tomorrow get in the santa cruz mountains, dustin dorsey, abc 7 news. dan: a lot of flooding just south of gilroy. a home alongside highway 101 is under several feet of water, as you can see. several vehicles also underwater. these pictures from sky

this is just across the freeway from the 101, highway 25 interchange. both lanes of 25 underwater, next to farmland not far from gavin creek. a few cars had to be pushed out of the water, but a terrible mess there. that is not the only flooding issue in santa clara county. the guadalupe river is also creating problems for people in san jose, as it often does when storms get bad. abc 7 news reporter zach fuentes is live with details on that. zach? zach: yeah, stopped earlier, and the water has receded, but even with it receiving come of it is still pretty intense right now. -- intense right now. the current water levels still have local leaders on alert. the headaches caused by the storm seen in the last week continue. the impact of the most recent one on early monday morning was nearly deadly for veronica, who is on house and living along the guadalupe river and san jose to

veronica: we are the branches, almost three hours, the trees are starting to want to fall, and we were like oh my god, and then we saw the water commit was superhigh. zach: not long after, she found herself in need of help fast. crews were able to rush in and save her as the water only continue to rise. veronica: they helped me get out of being right there where it was flooding, and i'm really grateful. zach: her incredible rescue is not the only one that has happened in san jose since the start of the storms. >> our fire department engaged in a couple of pretty rough rescues, being out in the channel with fast-moving water, helping two individuals get out of the guadalupe river. zach: overall, officials say they started taking proactive measures ahead of the storm to minimize damage. >> an example is in the upper creek, where we had to remove a large bunch of sediment, just to ensure that flooding did not occur into the local residences. zach: san jose mayor matt man

says protecting began on house and reminding them of the evacuation areas in those areas will be -- evacuation orders in those areas will be the focus. they had announcements on loudspeakers and multiple linkages. city leaders and nonprofits going on foot to spread the news. mahan said some f taken them up on their offer to take shelter. mayor mahan: we can keep dogs at the center, and as soon as we reach 110 people, we will then move to open the candidate community center. zach: despite the water rescues needed and the creek levels, they say the work the community did ahead of the storms may have saved lives. mayo what could have been much worse. zach: mahan did say at th conference that a death was reported along the river, but a

corner's report has not come back yet to confirm how it happened. right now, the shelter that is running in with the red cross and overnight warming shelters are going to stay open and possibly expand if needed. live in san jose, zach fuentes, abc 7 news. ama: zach, thank you. we moved to the north bay, where many streets and roads were also close because of standing news and -- abc anchor liz kreutz is live. liz: these two cars submerged in really heavy floodwaters outside of santa rosa, and right now, cleanup is literally underway. take a look. the flally receded here from earlier, but you can see a tow truck is here, dealing with a minivan that got stuck in the water. the mercedes was just towed away a few minutes ago. take a look at the video from earlier today. if you have not seen it yet, it is really dramatic. the drivers got trapped,

cars submerged there. the sonoma county fire district had to come and rescue one of the drivers, the driver of the minivan. thankfully, everyone is ok to do many of the rivers and creeks, though, in the county, did crest leading up to this road flooding. the parking lot is also completely underwater right now due to flooding from the rushing river. -- russian river. this is only going to get worse if and when the river does crest overnight. >> our west county road infrastructure has been hit so hard by the series of storms. we have trees down, mudslides, folks trapped in areas where we have had major road failures, and unfortunately, we are also seeing widespread power outages. some folks are on day six of no power with no restorations insight. liz: no power since wednesday, and we were supposed to have it restored yesterday, but the rain preceded -- precluded them from

doing it. that is jennifer, she lives in the low-lying areas in gardendale -- she moves to napa, now she is dealing with this. people are keeping their spirits up, used to this kind of thing going on when you live in a place like people who are dealing with flooding and power outages, and back here, again, i've talked to the owner of the minivan here. he said the flight came so fast as he tried to drive down this road and he was flooded and trapped before he could even realize what was happening to and thankfully, he is safe, and cleanup is underway. live in sonoma county, liz kreutz, abc 7. dan: obviously, it can happen so

the flooded neighborhood, to the right, homes directly affected by this like a man behind me, drivers who thought they could actually drive through this area and got stuck. it is a risky drive, but wayne is taking his chances this morning, he helped one of his neighbors who got stuck crossing into town to duane: i pulled him through. i am no expert whatsoever. nature can throw wild things that you come up it is a gamble, obviously it is a gamble, so, you know, sometimes it just takes biding your time in taking it slow and get things done. luz: wade and his fiancee have been without power for about five days, and has more rain approaches today, he went out to help his community. wade: there's a couple people on the road that need groceries, need medications picked up, so i decided to not only take care of my family but help out the community. luz: at least 10 families woke up to this, the creek

overflowed, and come in its path, these homes. how many homes are impacted by this blood right now? >> roughly a few hundred in the town of pescadero right now, and they cannot get out of the way. luz: the soil is increasingly saturated. down trees can be seen all throughout the county. a tree fell on the roof of this home, almost hitting a 14-year-old. >> just the thought, my so was sleeping inside. >> i have kids. i know how it is. luz: many residents are unable to leave this area, hoping for water levels to subside. >> february 3 of 1998 was the biggest flood that we have ever had here, going back at least past the 1950's. luz: is this similar? >> yeah, it is. it is reminiscent. but not nearly as dangerous yet. >> everything is so saturated

right now, and there is so much coming out of the watershed, which is above us. i don't know if that is going to be the case this time, but all we can do is hope. luz: cal fire does not rec for people to drive through flooded areas like you see the driver behind us is getting pulled out of the specific zone. he is doing ok, but cow file -- calfire says that is not the best idea. in pescadero, luz pena, abc 7 news. dan: thank you. residents and at mobile home park and the peninsula once again dealing with flooded areas. residents in the low-lying park that borders highway 101 and karen rohde said the water started rising when the pumps in the back of the property failed and still were not working as of 3:00 this afternoon. the water got so high, it spilled across the street and into a gym, costing an estim

not raining presently in the bay area but it is only hours away to hear is a nice view from mount tam, looking at the sunset, well, what we can see of it through the clouds there. a beautiful, colorful shot. bay. a lovely view at the golden gate. 56 degrees santa also in napa, fairfield, 58 in concord, and looking back on a bit of the skyline in san francisco, some clouds, beautiful clouds, forecast headlines, a break from the rain is occurring right now and will continue through the evening. we can expect periods through the next several days. on the abc 7 exclusive storm impact scale, a level 2. is moderate, will bring us showers, possible thunderstorms, and of course the threat of

flooding and downed trees and we start at 1 a.m., and notice how rapidly this storm surges i'm sure, just before the morning commute get in the way. it will be affecting the commute, which will be wet and slippery and challenging. later in the day, we see the storms, no big areas of rain and downpours through the day and into the early evening hours before it moves completely out of here as we prepare for yet another storm coming in on wednesday morning. rainfall totals from tomorrow's storm will generate rains from about just under half an inch to just over one inch in oakland. most locations south of the golden gate will receive under one inch of rain, but many inland spots like livermore, concord, fairfield will have over one inch of rain. it will be a pretty good soaking storm. a flood watch remains in effect through tomorrow afternoon, and a wind advisory goes in effect at 10:00 tonight. it will remain in effect until 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. we can expect gusts from 45 to about 60 miles an hour.

obviously a possibility of downed trees and power outages. overnight lows tonight, mainly in the mid to upper 40's, highs tomorrow will be generally in the mid to upper 50's, not a very wide range of temperatures there. here is the accuweather 7-day forecast. noticed every single day after tomorrow, we have a level1 for some storm activity. thursday looks like it might be our best shot at a mostly dry day. expect showers in the north bay on thursday. another storm will come in for the weekend, so -- dan: [laughs] ama: wow. spencer: we have got several consecutive days of some rain coming our way. dan: thank you, spencer. ama: heavy rainfall is being blamed for bringing down an iconic oak tree at the winery in napa valley st. helena pit winery staff say the tree came down last night on top of nearby picnic tables. fortunately, no one was hurt. the 275-year old oak tree served

has traffic moving slowly through south lake tahoe. this is highway 50 at echo summit. chains are required on all vehicles that don't have four-wheel-drive. it has been touch and go today as ski resorts try to figure out what to do in that area. palisades had to shut down a number of lifts and trails early today because of lightning strikes. kirkwood also closed for part of the day because of wind gusts that reached 80 miles an hour. ama: the napa river is expected to peak just above 23 feet in about an hour. that word from napa county emergency officials. california's department of water resources is monitoring the river, and we had an update today on our impact of the series of storms. the focus included portions of the river in napa and mendocino counties. >> this is an area that we look at on a regular basis, whenever we see high water, and we have made high water notification calls in the process here. we are ready to assist if and when needed.
