an area such as los angeles complaint also claims the bank opened only one branch in black and hispanic communities in 20 years, and that location had no employees to take mortgage applications. the settlement is the result of a justice department program to fight so called redlining, the illegal practice of not providing mortgages or services to people of color. city national's says it's cooperating with the doj and says supporting our communities is core to who we are as an organization, but redlining goes far beyond los angeles. recent data shows nationwide, only 35% of black applicants were approved for a mortgage compared to nearly 56% of white applicants in the same income range applying for the same loan amounts. from san francisco. how many times did you try to apply for at least three times and you were denied denied each time walkie where we found white people had a loan approval rating of 1.5 times higher than people of color with the same income. i still feel
