seven. i will be back with the warnings issued in the rest of the forecast, coming up. kristen: in the north bay, the storms has unleashed more downed trees and mudslides, one of which has left more than a dozen people displaced in marin county. we are live in fairfax with the latest. reporter: yeah, that mudslide happening at an apartment complex on the other side of this hill here. the fire department says heavily saturated soil because the hill giveaway. meantime, across the north bay trees continue to fall. it is a muddy mess at this fairfax apartment complex unaware a while of mud came down from a hillside friday morning, filling six units with mud and debris. the entire building was quickly evacuated. >> i was woken up this morning by a loud knock on the door.

it was the fire department saying the hills were coming down and i looked outside was all over the backyard. reporter: the marin county f department says units have been red tagged, and others displays. >> i packed up -- displaced. >> i packed up my dogs and put some clothing together and that was it. reporter: in sonoma countyreporter:, this massive tree came down, closing it until crews could remove it. >> i thought it was an earthquake. reporter: mike heard crashing after a small grove of 90-foot trees topple down this hillside. >> because of the saturation now, we are getting the slides with lots of trees and hillsides coming down. reporter: this time, nobody was hurt, but the fire chief says the soil was so saturated from heavy rains that more trees will definitely fall. >> this is the aftereffect of the rain because the ground is

spongy, and you see these trees completely toppled over and came completely out of the ground. reporter: do expect to see more of this? >> yeah, every day. reporter: the russian river is moving fast, but holding steady and is predicted to reach flood stage by sunday. >> it will get about this deep out here at that level. we should be all right. reporter: we are back in fairfax. the fire department says another building in the same complex has been yellow tagged, but resident cannot return home until engineers assess the stability of the hillside in the soil. it is unclear when that will happen. and yes, more rains on the way. larry: tha you. sout and repairs continue after the region was hit with flooding and mouse power outages. officials are preparing for the next round of storms, working to make sure the public is ready. zach fuentes is live in san jose

with a look ahead as everybody braces for another impact. zach: unfortunately so. santa clarita county emergency operations is at the highest level, preparing for the worst. officials are urging everyone not to underestimate the potential impacts of the storms and the impact slipped behind by the previous storms. though it took a break, the rain has returned and more storms with it. last week saw the south bay take on brutal damage. this pg&e transmission tower taken down by a tree cutting power to thousands. first responders were rescuing community members most at risk along santa clara county's main creeks and while repairs are underway and outreach continues at encampments and waterways, officials are ready for another round. >> crews, as you are wel working around-the-clock the

past few weeks to remove debris and other blockages from creeks and streams. zach: an emergency order has been extended to provide resources. the valley water terraces 52,000 homes and businesses are within the fema special flood hazard area and officials say the circumstances are challenging, but they are ready for the worst. >> we have been coord this season through hot weather and cold weather, so we got plenty of practice the last 12 months. they zach: zach: say it is up to community members to stay ready for themselves, but looking out for neighbors. >> law enforcement officers are not walking around everywhere and firefighters are not walking around everywhere and paramedics are not walking around everywhere. community members are bulking around everywhere, of the community is prepared to help each other, and we are much more resent a better prepared to face disasters as a community. zach: county shelters will be open throughout san jose and

potential for flooding. an unsettled pattern into the middle of next week. alright, let's get to the watches and warnings. flood watch tomorrow morning until monday afternoon, entire bay area, more flooding possible. coastal flood advisory tomorrow morning and monday morning due to the high tides. we had the excessive, heavy runoff also, onshore wind and minor coastal flooding is expected and we have a high surf warning until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. wave heights or 15 feet to 18 feet, dangerous breakers 20 to 25, occasionally up to 30 feet. wind advisory 3:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. solano county longer. guess 45 miles per hour will bring the potential for wind damage. now that the ground is saturated, it will not take a lot of wind to knock-down those trees. tonight, breezy at 5:00, wind ramps up 7:00 a.m. tomorrow, over 40 mile-per-hour wind out of the south, so be prepared and obvious he be ready

larry: some promising new signs in the fight against cancer, the american cancer society has released its 2023 cans report showing we are making -- cancer report showing we are making progress. our reporter has a closer look at the findings. >> one promising sign is cancer deaths have gone down 33% since 1991. here are other things highlighted in that report. there has been a major drop in cervical cancer rates for women between 20 and 24 years old, a 65% reduction from 2012 to 2019. the american cancer society attributes this to the hpv

vaccine. for rates of prostate cancer, they have been rising 3% every year between 2014 and 2019, and more cases are being diagnosed at more advanced stages. i talked with the chief scientific officer at the american cancer society about this. >> this is incredible. it is a terrible disease affecting young women with very aggressive surgery needs and chemotherapy's of this gives us real optimism that there can be further treatments either against cancers, or other cancers. >> he says we need to address shiftsese in the communities, especially black community, with prostate cancer 70% higher than white men. he says we could see an increase in the death of men with prostate cancer. the american cancer society is launching a program to improve

mortality from prostate cancer. kristen: it is time for consumer news. larry: michael is here. you have a discount on tesla? michael: huge. amazing. slowing sales and tumbling stock prices prompting tesla to cut the price of vehicles, and by a lot. the company is dropping the price of some versions of the model y suv by 20%. the cut will make -- company will make more versions of the suv eligible for that $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit. tesla is reducing the price of model three, a popular sedan, by 6%. does the stock has plummeted more than 65% since the start of 2022. get ready to pay more for car insurance, report from lending tree value penguin are expected to rise 8.4% this

thatlso impactus how does it work? larry: we went to vancouver, canada to find out the similarities are pretty striking, actually. >> yes, a lot of similarities. this is 1000 miles to our north. vancouver, canada using safe consumption sites to provide people with a safe place to use drugs, and not only is it saving lives it is injecting hope into those trapped in the vicious cycle of drug use, where every high comes with the risk of death. a warning before we begin to show you this final segment, some of what you will see will be hard for some of you to watch. >> we cannot say we have seen success. some lives have been saved, but far too many people have died. >> vancouver's chief medical health officer believes people will continue dying, if they continue to get their drugs off the street. >> things are terrible now.

they have become terrible because of the highly contaminated illegal drug supply, and only getting worse. some of the other actions we have taken around the pandemic we have not addressed the illegal drug supply. we need an alternate -- alternative to it. we will never address or crisis if we don't. she's >> >> talking about safe supply, a harm reduction strategy that provides people with their drug of choice, and it is starting at insight. >> that is an important addition. you have people who are comfortable with that service and it is a great way to introduce something that is safe for him. >> how are you doing that? how does that happen? >> yes, people are given safe supply drugs to use at a booth at insight. they get follow-up and it is part of a larger care program. >> there were people concerned about the harms of legalizing

cannabis, and we are still in the process of and permitting legalization. people consume candidates before it was made e illegal, and what we've learned from tobacco and alcohol is you have to do it in a way that minimizes harms and discourages people from using the substances. >> vancouver is already making moves to make some illicit drugs more available. >> we will not be selling psychoactive substances from storefront outlets like cannabis . the substances are much more harmful. >> when people talk about insight and harm reduction services being enabling, i do not think that they are understanding what drives catastrophic drug use in the communities. it is shame, pain, stigma, and anything that tries to ameliorate those feelings is working in a positive direction

around people's drug use. we are not being judgment of, because judgment only drives people further into the shadows. >> if i am from san francisco and i come to vancouver in sight this is the city trying this. i wonder how it is working and i go and see these things. it does not look like it is working. >> yeah. >> is it working? >> well, safe supply is in its infancy, so we have a few thousand people enrolled in the program, and the results from that early test is good. decriminalization has not happened yet. that takes place in general. watch this space. >> the site has been around since 2003. drug overdose deaths are hitting on all-time high. some people look at that and say well, that is a prom. what do you say? >> i would say that there is so much working on our approach to drug use in the society, and consumption sites are one of the

things that is working, and we need to look at how to make those services more impactful, more meaningful, how to make them available to people. >> bottom line. >> yeah. >> what needs to happen in the city to address drug overdose? >> again, complex issues in a complexity. there is not one single solution. for the police department, it is enforcement. we target violence, predatory drug dealers, harmful opiates poisoning people in the city. we need greater wraparound solutions for people to address the complex needs, housing, poverty, substance use, and health issues. they are all linked. >> what would it take to get you off of this? >> to be honest with you, a house, my own house.

i have been trying for a long time to get my own home. >> why do you say that? why would a house help? >> because it would be mine and i would take care of it. >> what you think about the situation about drug overdoses and the efforts? >> i think i have lost way too many people. i think i am struggling myself now. all these free needles, all this free -- oh man, i don't know. i don't know. >> you don't know if it's the right way to go, working, but do you mean by i don't know? >> i really do not think it is working. >> what do you think the answer is? >> honestly, i don't know. they are trying to do different actions. they're trying to do all these different programs. it is just not enough for people. >> we had a lot of hope when we open. we did not know it would take 15 years before we expanded that

service. the nature of illicit drugs is not like 2003. we now know in british columbia that our overall life expectancy dropped because of overdose deaths. that has been happening across the u.s. for a number of years. that means this is a problem all have to address. >> yeah, so, what i saw in vancouver on the streets was about hope, from police officers, policymakers, to the drug users themselves i'm all still really looking for answers. larry: you have some of the users openly questioning whether it is working at all. could those sites work here and what is the response to critics who say hey, if you want to shoot up in the street and you do not make it, that is on you. you know the consequences of your actions. why do i need to be responsible for that? >> yeah, that is one way of thinking. there are people who do believe

that. it comes down to public health, safety issues around the neighborhood you know, and there's an argument to be made to saving money, that the money that cousin to the safe injection sites is saved on the flipside with less people in the emergency rooms, hepatitis c, you know, the debate could go on and on really, and what this documentary is meant to do is to show people after 20 years of having this service, what does that look like. kristen: it is so interesting to me. your documentary does not point to one single solution. you are letting the viewers decide by offering the expense of all these different people, who they themselves do not know if it's fully working. but they have hope, as you said. larry: thank you. kristen: thank you. you can decide what you think after watching this documentary, injecting hope, no streaming on abc7

[laughter] >> that number is staggering. crazy. they are in search of better pay. or the present site they need a higher income due to inflation and rising expenses. others say they have no room to grow in her current role or they are in a toxic workplace. >> wow. 96%. that means the majority of almost everybody is looking for a different job? that is incredible. >> that is a high number.
