on t lest coitions. sandhya: let's take a look at live doppler 7. we have scattered showers. the focus is in the south bay. moderate showers in san jose, saratoga. in the north bay, a few showers. you will notice old redwood highway, it is a little wet. we have a flood advisory until 8:00 p.m. for sonoma county. it takes a while for the streams and creeks to run off. winds are gusting to 46 at atlas peak. on our exclusive abc 7 news storm impact scale, it is a level 2. definitely gusty winds in the hills and rough surf. showers will keep coming in waves and then we get a breather. tomorrow morning at 5:00,

downpours begin. the wind kicks up between 5:00 and 7:00. it is a level 3, a strong storm tomorrow morning. dangerous surf. gusty winds and possible a flood watch tomorrow morning until monday afternoon. more flooding is possible. a coastal flood advisory as we are expecting minor flooding in the low lying areas due to the high tides. we are talking about a high surf warning until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. wave heights are 14 to 18 feet, breakers could be as high as 30 feet. winds could be stronger over the hills. with saturated ground, any wind could topple trees so you have to be prepared. i will be back with the rest of the holiday we can forecast. ama: state and federal officials

are warning californians to not become complacent with more storms on the way. fema's administrator said president biden wants to make sure california has the resources it needs to help those impacted by the storms. >> we want to make sure there are no barriers and we do not let bureaucracy get in the way. ama: fema is reviewing governor newsom's request for a major disaster declaration. assessments and damage our expected to surpass $1 million. dan: more downed trees and mudslides, more than has -- one that has left more than duck a dozen people displaced. >> that mudslide doing a lot of damage. it happened at an apartment complex on the others of this hill. the fire department says heavily saturated soil caused it to give way. it is a muddy mess

fairfax apartment complex, where a wall of mud came down from an adjacent hillside friday morning, feeling six units with mud and debris. >> i got woke up this morning by a loud knock on the door. it was the fire department saying the hill was coming down. i looked outside and there was mud all over the backyard. >> the marin county fire department said two units have been red tagged, 19 residents displaced. >> i packed up my dogs, i some clothes together and that was that. >> the good news is nobody was hurt. the fire department tells me another building in the same complex has been yellow tagged. people cannot return home until a soil assessment, the stability of the hill is assessed.

it is not clear when that will happen but the marin county office of emergency services is helping people displaced tonight. we are live in fairfax, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. ama: to the south. officials continue to monitor the water level at the salinas river. this is video showing a levy break along the river. official said the break might have been helpful in preventing the river from peaking higher than 24.6 feet this morning but evacuations remain in effect for some areas. crews are part of the swift water rescue team. >> i am in monterey county. there are over 24,000 residents directly impacted by this. the house behind me has at least three feet of water. if you take a closer look, you can notice a water line just

below the windows. with more rain coming, the concern is how much more water can this area take? widespread flooding has prompted evacuations throughout the area. >> there is a pump. luz: 18 leading water rescues. the swift water rescue crew is made up of 16 firefighters from across the bay area. >> the plan right now is we will prepare for today. we are making sure all of our equipment is operational ready. luz: inflatable boats are key to the operation as water levels continue to rise. >> they are setting up the boats to ensure they are ready for the water operations if we do to get into the salinas river. luz: monterey county has been severely saturated by intense storms to the point were even when it does not rain, floods are still happening. >> the runoffs from the mountains and creeks moves toward the river and that is why brc are consistent rise in the salinas river. luz: there is concern it could

become its own island. >> we are cautiously optimistic that will not happen. luz: sky 7 video shows a levy break along the salinas river. it turns out this helped. >> the levee breach took pressure off the river. it flooded a lot of farmland. while it helped upstream going toward the ocean, it certainly did not help the farmers. luz: following the rescue team into this zone. >> we know the area, how deep it is. the water has come up a lot more. we know this is still a viable option. luz: they are looking for strategic places to deploy the boats in case of an emergency. >> we left here last night, it was below that fence line. you see the two marking flags. it was about one foot or two feet below that. >> this was all dry. luz: county officials are monitoring the salinas river. you can see behind us.

dan: here is a surprise. meteorologist sandhya patel is tracking what is coming this weekend. sandhya: we have a stronger storm coming in this weekend. i want to show you what is left of our current system. you will notice not just showers moving through the bay area but snow falling in the sierra. let's get you in closer to street-level radar in the south bay, where we are seeing some light showers scattered around.

right around north shoreline boulevard and mountain view. san jose. we also have a few showers in the north bay around windsor highway 101. allow yourself a little extra time to get to where you need to go for your friday night plans. 50's for the temperatures. a live look from the oakland airport. you will notice cloudy skies. the rainfall totals have been over one inch in the widest locations to just under 1/10 of an inch in san jose. tonight's storm ranks a 2 on the abc 7 scale. it becomes a 3 tomorrow we are expecting heavy rain and flooding during a couple hour period. dangerous surf with possible wind damage. let's talk about the flood warning on the russian river. current stage is 25 feet. flood stage is 32 feet. to :00 a.m., it is expected to rise above flood stage at 32.3

feet. salinas river is under a flood warning until monday afternoon. we have already seen the flooding as luz was just showing you. flood stages 23. it is above at 24.4. 10:00 tomorrow night, it is expected to come down to 23 feet. the winds will ramp it is gusty in the hills, breezy at lower elevations. tonight, remains breezy. tomorrow morning, look at those winds. 35 to 43 miles per hour along the coastline. scattered showers tonight turned into heavier rain tomorrow morning between 5:00 and 7:00. . i would avoid being on the roads if you can. 9:00 in the eastern and southern part of the viewing area. scattered showers. by evening, we see downpours free developing. it will not be a widespread rain event, just scattered in nature

with the thunder chance continuing into the afternoon. rainfall projections, most of you will be between .75 inches and 1.5 inches. the santa cruz mountains will pick up close to two in the mountains, a winter storm warning until 10:00 p.m. monday. heavy snow is possible. they are expecting three to six feet. i would hold off on travel. winds are gusting at 55 and heavy snow coming down, it is difficult and dangerous to travel. morning temperatures in the 40's and 50's. a stormy start to the weekend. afternoon highs with scattered showers in the 50's. a check of the niners' game against the seahawks at levi's stadium. the worst of it will be through here as far as the storm goes. there will be showers and sunny breaks but we are expecting a kickoff for the temperature to run around 58. it should be fine. a level 3 tomorrow.
