>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7news. ama: destruction. a mess forces evacuations in the bay area is bracing for the next storm that's expected to arrive in a matter of hours. dan: after a break, the rain returns today and we will see more over the weekend. ama: sandhya patel is here with what we can expect for saturday. sandyha: it will be a potent storm. let's take a look at live doppler 7. a strong storm. closer right now, we are see a couple spotty showers ahead of the storm system which is a level three, a strong storm for

tomorrow morning. downpours, flooding, dangerous serve. gusty wind and possible wind damage. the biggest concerns will be flooding on the roads, small stream flooding, downed trees, high likelihood of power outages and mudslides. be prepared as we go hour-by-hour. 5:00 in the morning, heavy rain moving in. it will continue to intensify. by 7:00, it is widespread. downpours and potential for thunder as well. the wind picking up out of the south. there's a flood watch, potential for flooding across the entire bay area. i will be back with a number of watches and warnings, coming right up. dan: the north bay been getting absolutely soaked. today, the rain took its toll, resulting in a number of mudslides. there was one in lagunita's another in fairfax that forced people to evacuate. tim johns was in marin county

tonight where they are preparing for what could be a rough weekend. reporter: the destruction left behind by the parade of storms hitting the bay area continued friday at this apartment complex pets. g wth morning by a loud knock on the door. it was the fire department saying the hills were coming down. reporter: another slight happened in lagunita's where one family was left to clean up the mess in their backyard. >> it was a busy day for first responders. fire officials tell me they are gearing up for what is to come this weekend. reporter: at the fire station. >> this is one of the teams we will have on a pre-position tonight. reporter: the battalion chief showed us the search and rescue equipment he and his team are getting ready for the coming days. >> we will see trees down, power lines down.

we will be out of power. it all comes down to where the storm impacts the bay area. reporter: there will be several teams on standby throughout the county, ready to respond in a moments notice. >> we've had multiple deployments of our urban search and rescue team in preparation for the storm events. reporter: he says he thinks everyone is ready for a little break. >> i think we are ready for the sun to come out and for things to dry out a little bit. reporter: abc7news. ama: in the south bay, new evacuation warnings for sarah clinic county. -- sarah client county. heavy flooding, mudslides, high winds, and other storm dangers are expected. evacuation warnings are not orders. people should be ready to go. in santa clara county, part of mines road has collapsed and is close to the alameda county line.

this is near san antonio valley. for those who live in the area, this is a vital route to get to the tri-valley and interstate 680. reporter: a massive's -- dan: a massive single causing a headache for residents living along the san mateo county coast. part of highway 92 is shutting down from highway 35 through main street and half moon bay. storms continue to pose a threat. it could take an hour for people to reach the nearest hospital. >> if there's multiple patients or transports needed, you'll have to rely on helicopters to help bring patients out or they have to wait longer for ground ambulances. dan: san mateo county says life flight will remain on stan ploy but will only deploy if it is safed. it's unclear when the highway will be open. crews have reduced a stretch of highway one to a single lane as storms continue to batter san mateo county. the southbound lanes started to buckle south of pescadero road.

parts of the highway dropped as much as three feet. that's extreme league dangerous for drivers. now to santa cruz county and the recovery further reopening businesses even with more rain coming up. many of the hardest hit coastal towns are asking visitors to come, shop, and be supportive of the community. amanda del castillo has the story now from capitola village. ♪ reporter: capitola village hope ring true. fewer people were in town friday night. this was a welcome sight after storms tore through oceanside businesses and left others in the dark. >> it feels like whiplash. it feels like you can't catch your breath. reporter: this capitola owner describing battling weeks of bad weather after years of the pandemic. she wants to make a difference so she's raising money for the

santa cruz county disaster fund and has established a home for those who relied on businesses that were hardest hit. >> is going to make me cry. a lot of the musicians that play here i feel a sense of responsibility to help and provide a venue where people can come. reporter: the goal, get people to come. many feel there's a misconception that the village has shut down after seeing properties with severe damage. this sign reads loud and clear, capitola village is open. >> the business meeting this morning with a lot of business owners. that was really touching, to touch base and make sure everything's ok and where we go from here. >> as a business owner, you don't see this often. it might be spread out. this village is very tightknit. we are all friends here and it's an incredible relationship. reporter: friday, through the village visiting

shops that have reopened. over and out toss, recoveries are being taken on by friends of santa cruz state parks. they launched a fund focus on the long-term support of iconic sea cliff stapes. >> the storms keep coming. it's early days right now in terms of knowing what the price tag is going to be to fix this park. but we want to be there and give the community away to support that overtime. reporter: the determination from those who have suffered so much across anna graves county highlights the community's unwavering resilience. >> i have seen people truly come together who are experiencing their own devastation and tragedy through this storm and even still through covid and coming up to other people, how are you doing, what do you need, how can i help? reporter: abc7news. ama: in the north bay, muir woods will open late tomorrow because of the storm coming in. this will give staff time to

million dollars each. here are the winning numbers for tonight's drawing. 30, 43, 40 5, ball is 14. dan: a human skeleton has been discovered in an unused building on the uc berkeley campus. the human remains were found tuesday in a residential hall complex at the clark kerr campus , approximately one mile from the main campus. uc berkeley police say there are no reports of a missing person for anyone associated with the school so it's a mystery. the person's identity and how long the body has been inside the building is unknown. gym in san francisco's castro neighborhood. neighbors have stepped up in a big way. today, another surprise. lululemon pitched in. suzanne phan has a closer look at what a difference that made. reporter: take a look at all the damage flooding did to this gym

in the castro district after a storm pummeled the bay area. >> we were standing here, basically the entire wall exploded with water. reporter: a pipe burst in one of the gym walls. >> we estimate the cost to fix the wall will be about $20,000. then we have more cleanup costs, lost wages to employees. every week we are closed, we lose a thousand dollars. reporter: he had to shut down right when they were expecting a bunch of new clients with new year's resolutions. >> we thought we were coming out the other side. mother nature slapped us across the face. it reporter: a gym across the street stepped up to help them in a big way. they set up a gofundme campaign. on friday, another major surprise. >> lululemon found out about it

somehow and they said, we want to do a fundraiser for you to support that gofundme. reporter: all the money raised by lululemon's pop-up shop goes to help them. >> we have their gofundme link here. we are asking for $30 donations for all of this product. this design is from a local artist. reporter: gofundme started by the competitor jim raised at -- $8,000. lululemon helped raise another five grand in less than four hours on a rainy day. they say they are just happy to help. >> we are gob smacked. if there was ever a use for that word, this is it. i can't thank them enough for setting up this gofundme. it is just so heartwarming. it cheered me up a lot. out there.

people want small businesses to survive and thrive. reporter: abc7news. dan: there's a lot of good out there. trucks are being turned around on eastbound interstate 80 due to a number of spinouts over donner summit. all traffic is building -- being held at nine. travel is certainly not advised as wintry conditions pick up the weekend. if you must drive, here are some tips. fill up your gas tank. bring extra clothes, food, water. drivers can expect a chain controls and delays. take a look at the snow. this is what one woman encountered during her drive home last night. walls of snow lining the road. in less than two weeks, the uc berkeley snow map says more than six feet of snow has piled up in soda springs. ama: if you've been feeling blah from these cold days or anxious from the storm dangers, you are not alone. we are just not used to this

much gloom and intense weather on a regular basis. the lack of sun can lead a lot of people to feel low mood, energy, and engagement. our mental health is incredibly important. i spoke with a psychiatrist today. he says a lot of the tips to improve your mood are things you might hear from any other doctor. >> when it comes to really bad weather or a long stretch of dark days, this is the stuff you might hear from every other doctor's visit. exercise. good diet. exercise is a really good tip even if you don't -- fit in a lock. it really helps. from the moment you wake up, turn some lights on. there are alarm clocks that wit -- with built-in lights. those are good ways to help boost your mood a little bit. ama: he mentioned nutrition specifically. he's talking about well-rounded meals that include vegetables to get the vitamins we might normally get from the sun.
