a mudslide forces neighbors to find a new place to stay. good evening, and thank you for joining us. this latest wave of wet weather is a level 2 storm on the storm impact scale. how long will the rain last? let's get to spencer christian. there is an end in >> sunny days coming our way but not today. we have a blanket of rainfall. it is wet everywhere and this is not just a light rain but moderates and sometimes heavy rainfall. this storm is a level 2 so for tonight and tomorrow morning, look for light to moderate rain, isolated thunderstorms are possible. notice the rain will continue late night, overnight, by midnight we might even see a

mixed precipitation, some snow mixing it with the rain atop mount hamilton. the rain will be with us in the morning commute. the promise of sunny days a little bit later. dion: thank you. developing news now in of the north bay. highway 37 remains closed in novato due to flooding. our reporter is live in novato. any estimate now on when the highway will reopen? >> caltrans tells me midday tomorrow could be the earliest time the highway could reopen. it has been closed since last night after flooding, basically took away most of the lanes. detours are in place now. meantime in a sonoma county there is now help for those who have been impacted by the storms. >> too much rain, too much water coming down at once. >> six water pumps are working to reduce flooding on a two mile

stretch of highway 37 in novato. road has been closed since saturday afternoon but runoff from novato creek is making the job tough. >> we are pumping the water but it is difficult to get ahead of the game because there is so much water still coming down and tides are high. >> the smart train tracks are also underwater. caltrans says it repaired and elevated a stretch of highway 37 in 2019 after a levy breach put the highway underwater for weeks. >> unless you do a major proje or elevate the road, we are still going to get that sort of flooding with big storms. >> trashbags -- >> this distance center opene in guerneville focusing on equitable recovery for those impacted by january storms. >> we are giving out food and supplies.

[speaking spanish] >> she has lost days of because of the storms. they are not waiting for fema, they want to get local funds into the hands of those who need it most. >> we have heard from dozens of people who are extremely concerned about being able to pay their rent or electric l as a result of financial impacts -- electrical bill as a result of financial impacts. >> back out here on a 37 caltrans says water pumps have done a great job today. they have essentially moved all of floodwater from the roadway but with more rain on the way tonight, they want to air on the side of caution and keep the road closed until midday

improved enough to continue the search for a missing boy end of the paso robles area. the five-year-old was swept away as the suv was overtaken by floodwaters along san marco's creek. the search is taking place in what they described as extremely challenging conditions. kyle's mother told authorities his last words to her were mom, it is ok. just be calm. on the peninsula, a mudslide blocked san juan boulevard in belmont. homeowners were forced to evacuate. two properties have been red tagged and owners are hoping to return when it is safe to retrieve their belongings. a family with young children has been displaced. >> we are not directly affected. i feel really bad for them. it is horrifying. it is good to get to know your neighbors and know how to reach them. >> belmont police say a block i closed to traffic indefinitely.

the california geological survey maps reports landslides every day and even safe there have been 402 landslides across the state since december 30. a lot of storms are entering parts of highway one. caltrans says the road is closed from monterey county all the way to san simeon in san luis obispo county. it is one of several closed spots along the highway. caltrans has partially reopened highway 92 near half moon bay. that stretch of road has been shut down for several days because of a large single. it remains closed in the westbound direction. that sink hole first opened on thursday and detours have been in effect ever since. the westbound closure remains in effect while work crews make repairs. in the north bay, a big rock is

causing big problems on a road in napa. rocks and mud engulfed parts of wooden valley road last night. napa county public works shared this photo with us and earlier today the road was down to one lane as crews cleaned up the mess. in the east bay, niles canyon road remains closed in both directions due to a landslide. it was shut down yesterday morning and there is no estimated time for when it will reopen. -- was being closed since friday because of stormy conditions. officials delayed reopening until 10:00 a.m.. those with reservations before 10:00 a.m. were canceled and refunded. tomorrow is a free day at national parks. for a list of resources to help with this extreme weather, things like sandbag locations, shelters and warming stations, you can head to abc7news.com/take action.

san francisco, north bay and peniwe can also expect coastal flooding in some locations. ski resorts are busy this holiday weekend. here is a look at the web camera at palisades tahoe. it is packed there. palisades says it received 12 feet of snow since january 1. more snow into the sierra today and people are urged to postpone driving until tuesday. drivers yesterday dealt with white out conditions so bad stretches of i-80 were shut down. chains are required on both highway 80 and highway 50. all of the snow that has been falling in the mountains is adding up. the uc berkeley central sierra snow left tweeted that average precipitation is at 204% in the current water year which began october 1. we are also at 92% of the amount of water you would get from melting snow pack and an average season.

two. we will see the rain continue to expand across the bay area. it might be cold enough for some snow to mix in with the rain but it is certainly going to be wet everywhere going into tomorrow morning. during the morning commute we will have a few downpours but the system will weaken and wind down by mid day. rainfall estimates range from about a quarter of an inch to three quarters of an inch. a flood watch still in effect until tomorrow evening across the entire bay area. we also have a coastal flood advisory in effect until 9:00 tomorrow morning with high tides offshore, onshore winds and heavy runoff contributing to the possibility of flooding and the beach has her statement in effect until 9:00 tomorrow morning. storm debris on beaches and in the water so it is a good idea to stay away from the coastline and stay off the highways in the sierra right now as well as the winter storm warning is still in
