one even blamed for killing a woman. and homes on the edge. a mudslide on the peninsula forces neighbors to find a new place to stay. thank you for joining us, i'm dion lim. this latest stage of wet weather is on the impact scale. let's get to spencer, who is standing by. there is an end in sight here. spencer: we have sunny days coming our way but we have a bit of the storm to deal with. you can see a blanket of rainfall across the area right now, a lame moderate to heavy -- mainly moderate to heavy rain. it is falling from parts marin county to lower sonoma county, then southward into contra costa county, down into alamo. this is a widespread blanket of rain. the storm on the impact scale is a level two for tonight and early tomorrow morning. light to moderate rain, occasional downpours. there is the possibility of

isolated thunderstorms. the forecast shows it will continue through the morning commute before it winds down. a closer look at the storm in the seven-day forecast later on. dion: developing news in the north bay. highway 37 remains closed due to flooding. cornell barnard joins us ■live from novato, where we saw the crews and efforts they put into alleviate the issue. do have an estimate on when the highway will reopen? cornell: caltrans says it may not reopen until midday tomorrow after flooding forced a foreclosure between atherton avenue and highway 101. details -- detours are in place. in sonoma county, there is a recovery center opening for those impacted by the storms. >> it is just too much rain, too much water coming down all at once. cornell: caltrans says six water pumps are working to reduce flooding on a two mile stretch of highway 37 in nevada.

the road has been closed to traffic, but runoff from near novato creek is making it tough. >> it is difficult to get ahead of the game because there is so much water still coming down and tides are high. cornell: frontage road and the train tracks are underwater. caltrans says it repaired and elevated a stretch of highway 37 in 2019 after a levee breach, but the highway -- after a levee breach put the highway underwater for weeks. >> unless you bring in a lot of dirt or elevate the road on a bridge, we are still going to get that sort of flooding with these big storms. >> trashbags. cornell: in sonoma county, this assistance center focused on equitable recovery for those impacted by january storms. >> we are giving out food. we are also giving out supplies. we are also giving stuff to clean up your house, pine-sol

and stuff like that. cornell: there is emergency financial assistance for those who qualify. >> [speaking spanish] cornell: she has lost days of work from the storms, flooding roads making it dangerous and difficult to travel. county officials say they are not waiting for fema. they want to get local funds in the hands of those who need it the most. >> we have heard from dozens of people who are concerned about being able to pay their rent or their electric will as a result of the financial impacts of the storms. cornell: that recovery center and one in healdsburg will be open until tomorrow night. caltrans says the water pumps have been doing a great job at removing the floodwater. essentially it is gone, but with more rain on the way tonight, they want to err on the side of caution, keep the road closed until tomorrow around midday, which is the estimated time for reopening. i am cornell, abc 7 news.

dion: we will be watching for updates. an elderly woman has died after being struck by a branch in golden gate park. a jogger found the woman just after 5:00 yesterday afternoon. she was lying on the sidewalk near a large tree branch. emergency services tried to revive the woman but she did not respond and was declared dead at the scene. it all happened near 30th and john f. kennedy drive. she was a san francisco resident. new developments now. the weather has improved enough to allow crews to resume the search for a little boy missing in the apostle robles area. he was swept away as his suv was overtaken by floodwaters at a crossing along san marco's creek. the sheriff's office says the search is taking place in challenging conditions. kyle's mother told authorities his last words to her before being swept away were mom, it's ok, just be calm.

a mudslide has blocked san juan boulevard in belmont. homeowners were forced to evacuate. at least two properties have been red tagged and owners are hoping to return when it is safe to gather belongings. a family with young children has been displaced. >> we are not directly affected. i feel really bad for them. it is horrifying. it really brings it home. it is good to get to know your neighbors, know how to reach them. dion: belmont police say a block of san juan boulevard is closed to traffic indefinitely. the california geological surveys maps reported landslides every day. there have been 402 landslides across the state since december 30. our storms are certainly battering parts of highway 1. take a look. caltrans says the road is closed from monterey county to san simeon in san luis obispo county, south of big sur, due to a significant slide. and caltrans has also

reopened highway 92 near half moon bay. that stretch has been shut down for several days because of a large sinkhole. the highway remains closed in the westbound direction from highway 35 to pillar cito's creek road. detours have been in effect since tuesday. the westbound closure remains in effect while work crews continue to make repairs. in the north bay, a big rock is causing problems. rocks, boulders, and mud engulfed parts of wooden valley road last night. napa county public works shared this photo with us. earlier today, the road was down to one lane as crews cleaned up the mess. in the east bay, niles canyon road remains closed in both directions due to a landslide. it was shut down yesterday morning, and there is no estimated time for reopening. a reminder, for a list of resources to help with this

dion: sources tell abc news the discovery of classified documents inside president biden's wilmington, delaware, home were pivotal to winning a special counsel in the case. this morning, california congressman adam schiff said appointing that special counsel to investigate is the right move. shift also says the records from vice president biden need to be assessed. >> i don't think we can exclude the possibility without knowing more of the fact. we have asked for an assessment in the intelligence community with the mar-a-lago documents. i think we ought to get that

same assessment to the documents found in the think tank, as well as the home of president biden. dion: mr. biden's attorney has maintained that aerials were misplaced. religious leaders from across inferences go are discussing an ugly incident caught on video. it showed a non-housed person being hosed down by a frustrated business owner. a community forum was held to address the incident outside and art gallery. the owner of the art gallery can be seen using a hose to spray a homeless black woman camped out in front of the business. the pastor says the video conjured memories of civil rights workers being sprayed with water hoses by police during the civil rights movement. he places much of the blame on the city of san francisco and community groups. >> you can't blame the man. you can't just blame the board of supervisors. we all must assume that

dion: a warning to stay away from the water during this weather do to conditions at local beaches. the national weather service has issued a coastal flood advisory until 9:00 tomorrow morning. people are told to expect storm debris on beaches, along with dangerous surf. san francisco, the north bay, and peninsula. forecasters say we can expect coastal flooding in some locations. ski resorts are busy places this martin luther king jr. holiday weekend. this is the web camera at palisades tahoe, and still lots of people on the ground there.

palisades says it has gotten 12 feet of snow since january 1. more snow pounded the sierra today. people are urged to postpone driving in the area until tuesday. drivers yesterday dealt with white out conditions, as you can see. stretches of i-80 were shut down. right now, chains are required on both 80 and highway 50. all of the snow falling in the sierra nevada mountains is adding up. the uc berkeley central sierra snow lab tweeted the average precipitation is now -- wait for it -- 204% in the current water year. that is a year that began on october 1. we are also at 92% of the amount of water we get from melting snow pack in an average season. the snow lab has averaged more than 90 inches of snow in the last seven days. these are astronomical numbers. spencer: those are huge numbers, and it is great to see we have such great snow bank building. and it is still building.

your cautionary words about traveling, here is a look at the winter storm warning in effect for the sierra. a lot more snow is expected to fall. this warning is in effect until 10:00 p.m. tomorrow night. we might get another one to three feet on top of what is already there by tomorrow evening. let's take a look at what is happening in the bay area right now. a blanket of rain. it is wet and soggy everywhere. this is moderate to heavy rain. we have some pretty heavy rain right now moving from marin county to southern sonoma county, then south through hercules and walnut creek. but all over the bay area, it is wet. on the storm impact scale, this storm ranks a level two. tomorrow morning, look for light to moderate rain, occasional downpours, occasional thunderstorms possible. here is the forecast animation starting at 6:30, when the activity will shift southward. it will spread across the entire
