i will 9:00 a.m., gusty winds weakening as we speak but the biggest impact we have right now is all of the water on our roads. this is a live look at the south bay, san jose with rain on the lens. by 9:00 a.m., showers should be out of here but we will keep a lot of the clouds first thing this morning. much of the daylight is dry, mostly cloudy with temperatures in the 50's. one more storm to get through this week before dry patterns, will talk about that in a few minutes. jobina: on storm watch this morning, flitting a concern for many residents across the bay area. people living in the fox creek apartments in pittsburgh overnight had to evacuate because of floodwaters. lena howland is live with the latest. >> right outside of that apartment complex, we are live on harbor

flooding is happening behind us. the water is rushing across the roadway, with and avenue. this water is coming from the creek, about one street down from stoneman avenue. that is why some folks needed to be evacuated overnight from the apartments right next door to this. we knew that flooding in this area would be a possibility today after a sinkhole collapse on saturday night. this is a look at some of the flood damage in this specific part of pittsburgh that we saw over the weekend. the water was so strong, even pushing down a 10 foot fence after the water started to rise. >> if we have a heavy rainfall, the creek will backup even more and there are properties that may be affected. we are going to be monitoring that. >> that was a city engineer sharing his concerns over the weekend with plans to keep a close eye on this area as the rain picked up and that is

exactly what he predicted to happen. what we are seeing live in pittsburgh this morning, just outside of the creek -- the apartments on harbor street. no word on how many people needed to be evacuated overnight, we are working to get some of that information confirmed. but if you are headed out on the roads in pittsburgh this morning this is an area you want to avoid here at harbor street and stoneman avenue. it is closed in both directions because of flooding. five in pittsburgh, lena howland, abc 7 news. jobina: the national weather service's morning you to stay away from water on the coast during stormy weather. a coastal flood advisory in effect through 9:00 this morning. this covers beaches in san francisco, the north bay and the peninsula. reggie: on the peninsula, while the rain calmed down, wind and flooding poses safety threats to drivers and residents. in menlo park, a massive tree took down power lines and blocked a driveway.

we also came across a number of branches leading -- leaning against power lines. neighbors say they don't mind the rain but they are ready for the storms to stop. >> i'm looking forward to clear weather. i've got a lot of shoes that are soaking wet. [laughter] reggie: with the rain still coming down, the roadways continued to experience issues too. in san mateo, the driver of his mustang lost control on the entrance ramp and ended up in the ditch. if you have somewhere to be this morning, be careful because the roads are still slick. jobina: the postal service confirmed one of the trucks toppled over high winds on the golden gate bridge. it was heading south on the bridge when it was blown onto its side saturday. the bridge was shut down on both directions as crews worked to remove the truck. the postal service spokesperson says it was nearly empty, holding only a few cages of mail. the driver was unhurt and no mail was lost.

reggie: a fallen tree killed a jogger, the woman found on saturday lying near a large tree branch. emergency services tried to revive her but she did not respond. the victim lived in san francisco. jobina: crews resuming the search for a missing five-year-old boy and san luis obispo county. he was swept away as the suv was taken over by floodwaters a week ago. his last words to her before being swept away were quote mom, it is ok, just be calm. sheriff's office does bribes -- describes this is ext conditions. the search will be on a day-to-day basis. reggie: some homeowners were forced to evacuate after this was blocked.

they are hoping to rescue items once the area has been so -- secured. a family with young children is now out of a home. >> we are not directly affected. but i feel really bad for them. it is horrifying them. -- it is horrifying. it is good to know your neighbors and know how to reach them. >> police say a block is closed to traffic indefinitely. jobina: to paint a picture of the damage left behind from this onslaught of storms, take a look at this map from the california geological survey. it shows the number of landslides from this month. since december 30, have been more than 400 landslides across the state. you can see the large majority in the bay area and in this ted cruz mountains. reggie: -- santa cruz mountains. reggie: the freeway close in both directions, shut down since saturday morning. there is no estimated time for reopening. jobina: another landslide

oral authorities investigating two planes nearly colliding on the runway at jfk airport in new york. it could have been the worst aviation disaster in american history. we are hearing the moment when air traffic controllers prevented a catastrophe. here's andrea. >> passengers involved in a near t-bone collision at the new york jfk airport say they are still shaken by the close call. >> i will never not where my seat belt on a plane. >> a panicked air traffic controller friday night and it's an american airlines plane on the same runway as a delta plane that had just been clear for takeoff. the planes missed each other by 1000 feet. the delta pilot slamming on the brakes at 115 miles per hour. brian healy was on the delta flight. >> everyone was thrust forward. i'm grateful of the judgment calls the air traffic controllers and the pilots made were the right ones.

take a look behind us here. this is at harbor street and summit avenue. crews on scene are working to try to help start the cleanup process or observe what is going on here. you can see the water rushing over the roadways, walking off sidewalks and harbor in both directions as i mentioned. the water is coming from kroger -- the creek only a few blocks down and that is why some needed to see this overnight. flooding would be a possibility overnight. this would be just outside the church of the good shepherd catholic church. this is a look at the flood damage that we saw over the weekend in this area, the water so strong, even pushing down a 10 foot fence after the water started to rise. >> wednesday morning, a sinkhole appeared over this type. we believe from photos we have

seen and the facility that the top of the pipe has failed and the soil from above is partially filled the storm drain line. >> that was a city engineer who just heard from. he warned if we did get a heavy rainfall like we saw overnight into this morning, the creek would back up even more, threatening properties nearby. outside of the fox creek apartments, that is exactly what happened with some folks at this apartment complex needing to be evacuated overnight. we are working to get information on just how many people needed to be evacuated. but if you have to be on the roads this morning in the pittsburgh area, this is one area you are going to want to avoid here. it will be closed off for the next couple of hours as crews worked to get this cleaned up. wife in pittsburgh, lena howland, abc 7 news.

jobina: in the north bay, the build is leading to problems on local roads. this was on part of redwood drive. marin county fire department says the road is closed indefinitely. this highway flooding. the storms we are seeing are taking a serious toll on the roads. >> they are pumping the water but it is difficult to get ahead of the game. too much rain and too much water coming down all at once. jobina: officials say the pumps are doing a good job of getting the floodwater out of the roadway but with the rain flooding this morning, they expect the highway to stay closed until at least midday. caltrans partially reopened highway 92 your half moon bay. a large sinkhole forced a stretch to close. highway 35 to this

sinkhole first opened on thursday and detours have been in effect ever since. reggie: in the sierra, snow has been making it difficult to travel. national weather service says the heaviest snowfall is inspected this morning and this afternoon. over the weekend, drivers dealt with white out conditions so bad that stretches of interstate 80 were shut down. chains on both 80 and highway 50. the central sierra snow lab says just the past week it has measured more than 7.5 feet of snow. matt rivers is in truckee with a quick look. >> weeks of consistent snowf in the sierra nevada mountains has led to scenes like this, this car behind me of the mountains could see an additional three feet of snow. markable numbers and this is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year. trying to take advantage of the time off of work. but all that being more

the seven-day forecast in about nine minutes. let's check on the traffic. >> we have over 70 incidents on the chp log on this soggy monday morning. it is busy, a lot of mudslides, standing water, hydroplaning, spinouts and we are looking at highway 87. taillights headed toward the san jose airport. an accident blocking a couple of lanes at kirchner. 101 and san jose, headlights headed in the northbound direction 880 over 101. we do have flooding on highway 92, westbound 24 near fish ranch road is still blocking the middle rains. traffic is stacked through orinda in the westbound direction and some slow traffic on the seven and everything -- avoid this area if you can.
