>> building a better bay area. this is abc7news. >> it's kind of been miserable. >> today, the weather's pretty good. >> ice to walk into the house and not have to worry about it. >> from storms to son. the bay area has a string of clear days insight, but signs of damage are left over and some danger spots are not done yet. dan: thanks for joining us. a full look at our storm damage still rocking the area, but new word on a wild ambulance joy right across the bay area. ama:ama: the san francisco fire department says the ambulance was stolen tonight when paramedics were bringing a patient to the rig when it took off. the driver lead chp on a chase through san mateo and alameda county. they ditched it in oakland. the patient and medics were not hurt. the suspect got away.

dan: back to our storm watch coverage. a number of homes in the berkeley hills are under mudslide threats. j.r. stone is tension from neighbors tonight. j.r.: no cars allowed on this street in the berkeley hills because of this, it mudslide early monday morning, that went into a home and is now putting other residences in danger. >> i'm very concerned. i saw what happened to pat's house. that could have been my house. j.r.: paul chang owns a house below with a mudslide happened. his is one of five that have been red tagged. >> i'm right next to their house. if mud keeps slidi probably get my house or david's down the street. i have tenants who live there. they called and said they have been evacuated. j.r.: those with berkeley fire say they are making progress.

>> there was a broken water pipe high up in the area where the slide started. redirect the water away slide and the slide impact. j.r.: those living in three of the eight houses evacuated have been allowed to go home. other neighbors are insight of the red tagged locations, but are ok. >> they said that the biggest concern for the people on my side of the street is if the mud comes down the road and blocks the intersection. >> the red tagged houses across the street and we are fine. just a matter of 20 feet. j.r.: firefighters say it is unclear as to when the red tags will be lifted. >> it is hard to say until the earth stops moving. fire crews could still hear the creaking of some of the outbuildings. it is still not safe for them. j.r.: it is very wet in the hills. geologists will not work with

building inspectors and those from where the water leak was, that should them -- give them a better idea of the timetable involving the situation with those red tags. j.r. stone, abc7news. ama: sky 7 also got a birdseye view of a separate mudslide in the berkeley hills. you can see the trail of mud. crews have parts of claremont avenue on alvarado shut down to clear the road of that debris. dan: flooding in pittsburgh is keeping the road closed and people evacuated. harbor street from stoneman to yosemite is shut down. evacuations are still in place for 19 homes in that area. authorities say an underground water channel broke saturday and the creek pressed it again overnight. >> the fire department and patrol personnel decided they needed to go door to door to tell them water was rising enough to tell them to evacuate.

we knocked on 19 doors on ventura and harbor and asked them to evacuate. dan: the fire department's swift water rescue team helped 12 people out of the neighborhood by boat. one driver also had to be rescued. pittsburgh police say expect harbor to be closed through wednesday. ama: let's turn to spencer christian, even though we are mostly in the clear, there is still one little blip out there. spencer: that's true. here's a look at live doppler 7. virtually no rainfall in the bay area except for isolated sprinkles and showers. the next storm comes in wednesday evening, a fast-moving storm ranking level 1. producing showers and brief downpours, less than a half inch of rain for most areas. starting at midnight tonight. clear skies overnight. sunny skies tomorrow. clouds come in wednesday

morning, followed by this cold front that sweeps in very quickly wednesday evening. it will produce some measurable rainfall, anywhere from a quarter of an inch almost up to half an inch. i will have the sunny forecast a little bit later. ama: thank you, spencer. dan: the totality of those california storms now prompting president biden to visit the state this week. the white house released his travel plans today. the president is expected to visit the central coast thursday to see storm damage firsthand. the federal emergency relief from last week is now expanded to assist 41 california's 58 counties, including everyone in the bay area. ama: storm damage is still widespread, blocking chances to enjoy local parks again. this evening, park amanda del castillo on a tour of

the oldest municipal park in california. she has details on the devastation and what needs to be done to reopen. amanda: alan rock park closed due to hazardous conditions. park rangers took us on a guided tour to get a look at the damage caused by the storms since new year's eve. >> our hills are very saturated and soaking wet with rain water, that we can still see mudslides, landslides, and rock slides coming down. amanda: one park ranger describes it as a box canyon where the sides are very steep, gravity causing objects to slide down in dry conditions. >> now you factor in moisture and high winds. that's what a thing makes it much more challenging. amanda: among the list of impacts, erosion, road hazards. even the temporary hollywood style sign that celebrated the

park 150 years is no more. there is much to do before the park reopens to the public, including having rangers hike every trail to assess unknown damage, potentially having to clear narrow trails by hand, or bringing in heavy equipment to do the job. >> when the tree fell into the creek, it took out a chunk of a retaining wall that we believed to be supporting the roadway. amanda: for that damage, an engineer will have to come out to determine the best way to either resolve the issue or reroute traffic. since the new year's eve closure, rangers are seeing 100 visitors coming up to the entrance only to be turned around. this is not the only park seeing widespread storm damage. officials say a number of parks and trails across san jose are closed indefinitely. in san jose, amanda del castillo. dan: next to the peninsula, a

stretch of highway one in pacifica is back open tonight. a rockslide sent a boulder tumbling on the roadway earlier today. this video was shared, up close video next to me right there. you can see how big that rock really is clogging the road. southbound lanes were blocked several hours. chp called for heavy equipment to be block -- broaden to remove that giant boulder. ama: from rock slides to mudslides to pavement giving way, no doubt this atmospheric river has taken a toll on our roads and now we know how much. there have been more than 500 landslides statewide since december 30, according to the california geological survey. in blue, there has been a cluster of landslides in the bay area. why is california prone to this? geologists say it is because the state is relatively young mountains, which means much of this deep terrain is still in

motion and covered with loose rocks and soil that can slide away. dan: while crews were hard at work, a lot of people in the bay area were just happy to finally see some sun. tim johns spoke with some of those folks today. tim: after seemingly never-ending stretch of storms -- >> it has kinda been miserable. tim: the sunshine is finally back in the bay area. your san francisco, christy fields was alive with people. >> i was pretty sad rain in san francisco. good. tim: it wasn't bright skies for everyone. many are still dealing with the damages left behind. earlier in the day, the golden gate national recreation area

tweeted the photo of an old military structure after it slid down a nearby bluff. >> i believe that what rolled out of the hill was a piece of the rifle range dated to the 1930's. tim: it crumbled off the cli likely due to the saturated land. >> we did a study to see if we could stabilize in place some of the structures, especially some of the gun positions. it was just so prohibitively expensive. tim: some of which played roles during the second world war. due to time and erosion several have fallen over the years. no one was injured in monday's slide. park staff reminded visitors to be cautious of their surroundings. in san francisco, tim johns, abc7news. ama: highway one north of point race station is closed -- reyes

suspects but believe there were multiple shooters. dan: monument meant to honor dr. martin luther king jr. and his wife is instead stirring controversy. statue called the embrace was unveiled today in boston. it was inspired by a photograph of the couple that captured them hockey at -- hugging after he won the nobel peace prize. critics online say it doesn't really look like that and even a community organizer in oakland has this to say. >> sword, but that dan: strong words, the monument is located in boston common working gave a speech in 1965 to a crowd of 22,000. ama: for weeks now, empty shelves at the grocery store, no eggs in sight.

38 at santa rosa. mid to upper 40's at concord in livermore. looking toward the bay bridge and these are our forecast headlines. mostly clear and chilly overnight. a light storm arriving late wednesday. try again with sunny days through the weekend. the approaching storm is a level one. in light storm wednesday evening, it will produce light rain and brief downpours, less than a half inch of rain. notice, clear skies o sunny skies tomorrow, clear tomorrow night. clouds thickened wednesday morning. then we get this line of showers and some heavy downpours sweeping through quickly and fortunately for us it is a fast-moving system so it won't produce a lot of rainfall which will complicate our flooding concerns.
