the focus and concern outside of her partner working to walk again is now on these other big home, and other houses. >> it was an earthquake. one of our middle kids comes in and is screaming, daddy is screaming, debris is everywhere. that is when it dawns on me that a tree fell. it is massive as i get closer. lena: since signed a petition asking officials to clean up other nearby problem trees. we reached out to alameda county public works about the issue but have not heard back.

the process to start cleaning up the tree is expected to start this morning at around 8:00, but as you can see from the size of this massive tree behind us, it will take some time to get it removed. reggie: also in the east bay, a massive mudslide stop a train in its tracks, leaving passengers stranded for hours. the ace five train came up to the mudslide along niles road. after four hours, another train came to rescue those passengers and bring them to their destinations. >> i am just disgusted because i wasted a whole day sitting on that train. potentially we could have been in jeopardy. reggie: no one was hurt but niles canyon has been a highly impacted area with storms and mudslides in the last few weeks.

house republicans are criticizing the administration and demanding more information related to the searches of classified materials. >> this is why there is so much hypocrisy behind the bidens once again, something big comes forward prior to an election where they keep it quiet where the american public could actually have a say in it. jobina: a white house spokesperson says they are releasing information as they deem appropriate. the white house is expected to keep cooperating with the special counsel investigation into the classified documents. it is unclear how they will respond to house republicans investigations. reggie: resident physicians announced plans to unionize the san francisco-based california pacific medical center. they hope to gain more bargaining power and negotiate for better pay and working arrangements. residents say they are regularly asked to work 80-hour weeks and rarely work a week with less

reggie: a former president of the san francisco building commission has pleaded guilty to fraud schemes, giving false documents to the fbi, and tax evasion. in his plea agreement, he said he collected checks from climates -- clients made payable to the city but alter the checks and deposited them into his personal account, obtaining more than 775 thousand dollars worth of client money. this is part of a larger investigation targeting corruption in san francisco. 12 people have been charged including high-ranking officials. sentencing is set for june 30. kumasi: for the second year in a row, san francisco spent more than $2 million in police overtime pay to deter shoplifting in union square. it was also an attempt to learn shoppers back to the union square area for the holidays. city officials say union square

made 3.3 million dollars in sales tax revenue during the holidays. reggie: the man accused of stalking with women in san francisco says he wants his trial moved, blaming negative media reports about him. the attorney for billie jean hobbs says news articles about him make it impossible him to have an unbiased jury in san francisco. he was arrested for 14 incidents of stalking, harassment, and unwanted touching. kumasi: could change the way that we donate blood. cedars-sinai hospital in los angeles is using a new sensor which hugs your thumb to read your pulse rate as well as your hemoglobin levels. those are needed before you give blood. typically this step is done by pricking your finger, and it is painful. >> at times, it does feel more

that tree is still on top of the home a week and a half later. lena howland is an castro valley -- in castro valley. lena: neighbors in this community are now asking for more to be done after this massive tree you see behind me fell on this castro valley home, leaving a family of six without a home. take a look at this mess fenced off behind me. you can see where it fell, crushing the home and the father inside. his wife tells us that she was also home, along with their four kids, but they were not hurt. she says the her partner working to walk again, is on these other bigger trees bordering the kelly canyon creek, what is left of her home, and many other homes in the area . half a dozen neighbors say that

no officials have talked with them about possible removal. >> who is going to take care of this? we don't want just a blind eye to be prone to this situation. >> when it is a public nuisance, the tree could fall over, hit the street and the sidewalk. of course it is a public nuisance. lena: nearly 1000 people hav signed a petition asking for the county to act immediately on this. we reached out to alameda county public works about the issue but have not heard back yet. cleanup is expected to start this morning right around 8:00 the tree that you see behind me. just based on the size of the tree, it will take a little while longer to get this cleaned up. kumasi:

sidewalk covered in rainwater. and the storms knocking out an american castro from the sky. and a pocket gopher hypothermic after his borough flooded from the rainwater. this is some of the wildlife being cared for in san jose. the hospital manager says centers along the coast are seeing the biggest from the weather. >> there have been reports of an influx in other areas due to the storms. in our area, we are keeping fingers crossed that things remain the way it has been going. if something changes, we are fully prepared. gloria: the creek in front of the center, so workers have created an evacuation plan in case there is flooding. they say the animals are expected to make a full recovery. they'll be released after the next storm.

than they bargained for at a house fire in martinez. firefighters came across more than 70 dogs and cats at the home. some got out and ended up running around the neighborhood. >> we initially had help some neighbors all around the house here, who helped us to corral the dogs and give them water, keep them attended to. reggie: animal control officers helped to gather the dogs and cats into carriers. no animals were hurt in the fire which started in the garage and spread to the second floor. one of the residence was treated for smoke inhalation. kumasi: new details about george santos has confessed to lying on his resume. he has been assigned to seats on two committees but is still facing federal and state investigations. jobina has the latest on concerns from his colleagues. jobina: ritchie torres is

calling on the federal election communication to look into how george santos financed his campaign. he reportedly lent more than $700,000 to the campaign after earning about $55,000 two years earlier. now, torres is pointing a group called redstone strategies which helped raise money for santos. >> mr. santos either illegally coordinated with an independent expenditure or he illegally received a campaign contribution through a pass-through. in either case, mr. santos likely broke campaign finance law. jobina: santos has not responded to the complaint. while the investigations continue, more false claims by santos rf servicing. his former roommate says that he used different names for his animal rescue nonprofit and its gofundme, but there is no evidence that nonprofit ever existed. the two house committees santos

for strict security measures after a six-year-old front a gun to school and shot a teacher earlier this month. they showed anger and frustration when meeting with the school board last night. one mother says her daughter rushed out of the classroom after she saw the shooting. >> she is six. she is terrified, because the person that was advocating for her got her. >> i find myself praying to god that they will return home safely. reggie: school leaders pledge a full-time security guard, fully staffed front office, and a metal detector. administrators are also calling on mandating clear backpacks. authorities say the six-year-old who opened fire used his mother's gun. it is still unclear how he got the gun. kumasi: thousands of californians are getting a fresh start with their criminal record being cleared for the new year. scott wiener is behind allowing for the removal of any convictions from people's records.

salesforce and twitter. kumasi: if you have been impacted by flood damage and need assistance, u-haul is helping out. it is opening up 10 of its sites were free to flood victims across california. they are offering 30 days at a self storage or ubox container. the city of san francisco also offering assistance to small business owners who have been heavily impacted by storms. mayor breed announced the grant will offer up to $5,000 to eligible businesses located within the city's flood zones. $2000 is available for small businesses outside of the designated zone the assistance is on a first-come, first-served basis. reggie: as we catch a break from storms, we are learning that severe weather could be the new normal. with flooding as it is already, the main concern is sealevel rise pushing saltwater in and

raising the water table. that is threatening levees and sea walls that protect our shoreline. as glaciers melt, the report suggests an urgent need for resilient solutions, including expanded title marsh and horizontal levees in place of shoreline development. >> that visitation drinks the groundwater, really creating more green space between communities and the bay. it is just so needed. reggie: in much of the bay area, electrical and sewage infrastructure would be buried by floodwaters. in some areas, rising grunt water could push toxic materials to the surface. that is bad, but how about this? netflix has an interesting opportunity, hiring a flight attendant for one of its private jets. kumasi: the job pays up to $385,000.
