does has long supported the police chief. >> i felt that as someone from oakland he is aware that -- aware of certain elements that you have to be from here to understand. but according to abc 7 i team sources, he was placed on administrative leave after he failed to take action on a sergeant who took the bumper off of a car in a fired a gun at police headquarters. oaklands numeric, and the city administrator made the call to place armstrong on leave. both were unavailable for an interview and said in a statement, the decision was not taken lightly but it is critical for our community that we build trust between the partner and the public.

we must have transparency and accountability to move forward as a safed or -- as a safer and stronger oakland. >> the police chief that we are all trying to work with is on administrative pay leave. >> councilmember does not support the move and others are calling for independent oversight into the matter. >> we need a group of oversight committees who have teeth and can hold these actors can accountable. >> i been on the council 10 years and i've seen 11 chiefs already. >> ann kirkpatrick calls it a setback, she was fired in 2024 reporting misconduct. she filed a lawsuit on her termination and one. >> one of the officers will not come forward and report misconduct.

i reported misconduct and was fired for it. >> the chief vowed to get opd under -- out from under federal oversight. but it's unclear if armstrong will keep his job. >> whether or not he is fired is not my call, but it's not just firing and hiring people. >> abc 7 news. dion: now to put all of this in perspective there have been 10 police chiefs in oakland the past 10 years. he was replaced by anthony lasted just two days, a federal overseer was going to oust jordan and terman ne-yo but both resigned first. and after a sex scandal the department a series of chiefs of lasted just days.

paul figaro and finally city administrator took over for just six months. ann kirkpatrick was chief from january 2017 to january 2020. she was fired and successfully sued for wrongful termination. the acting chief chief for less than two months and he is currently acting chief again. and her replacement armstrong. larry: joining us now, seeing the list, the parade, 10 chiefs in 10 years how can you have any success, what's going on? >> it's politics. the department decree after a

officers were told to fight crime for any means necessary and that included planting drugs and violence. it seems that now that they are going to be getting out of it the oversight finds a reason to get rid of the chief, or something happens and they step back and start over again. this is a cycle that oakland has gone through. it's one of the most political departments and political chief jobs that you will find. this exiting, is going to be politics as well. >> what do you think armstrong's future is? >> he has a future whether it's in oakland or not remains to be seen. he has lawyers who will be handling this. the last chief that they fired was because she the whistle on -- she blew the whistle on the police commissioner's. armstrong is very popular in that report with the community, and it was sort of the stunner to see him tossed this quickly.

the first crisis of her administration. >> do you think that federal oversight is likely to be in play for years and years? if you're going to keep the carousel going you will never have real policy changes. >> and that's what we see between the politics of oakland going to defund the police now advocating for onus is to sign them. from the feds, every which direction, i've a feeling that this will be mired for a while. resources and tons of money to throw out the problem to hire enough lease, with all -- would that solve this or is this a political issue or a financial issue. >> you could hire all the police that you would want, and then you have to fire them, from oakland hundreds. the homicide rate was going down and there was a feeling that crime was going down and that oakland was somehow getting the

for the next seven to 10 days. the next warming trend is the middle of next week. we have temperatures dropping into the low 30's and our inland areas and below freezing in some spots. and mid to upper 30's that will be the pattern for the coast as well. highs in the mid 50's, a little cooler inland on the east bay where many locations will have highs in the low 50's remember coastal flood advisory is in effect until 3 p.m. on monday. this is due to the team tides, the highest tides of the year which will typically bring coastal flooding to the low-lying areas. in this case, it is probably a good idea to stay away from the coastline certainly for recreational purposes. here's your accuweather of a day forecast, as you can see, sunny days ahead with a little bit of warming trend beginning the middle of the week, wednesday or so. 62° inland and around the bay
