argen. we have a lot to get to this morning but first we will get a look at the weather. i can't remember the first time we didn't have rain saturday. lisa: we are welcoming all the sunshine but cold. the storm track deflected well to the north and that means another sunny day. we are below freezing in livermore, san ramon. 37 in oakland and san mateo chile at 36. 10 degrees colder in san francisco, 14 degrees colder compared to yesterday for livermore. freeze warnings until 9:00, temperatures from 28 to 30 degrees. temperatures will take the mild warm up to the 50's and a breezy sunday. liz: we are expecting to hear from oakland newly elected mayor to talk about the police chief

laurent -- action for a sergeant who ripped off a bumper in a hit and run. abc news will stream his comments around 10:00 on our streaming app and we will have much more coming up in our next half-hour. in berkeley, a jewish nonprofit group says two billboards were defaced in just a couple days. the police department is investigating it as a hate crime. as tim johns reports, this comes as documented reports of violence against jews are at the highest. tim: you might see billboards like this one in hot pink with messages designed to grab people's attention and fight back against anti-semitism. >> we have jewish resources and education for people who want

tim: tim: to know more. she is the cofounder of jew belong. billboards were people spray-painted phrases. >> i believe in human rights palestinians and israelis, and for peace. tim: the group has been in contact with the berkeley police department who is investigating this as a hate crime. >> it is ongoing and i think they will be looking at cameras. tim: putting the billboards aside, the most recent data shows documented reports of harassment and violence against jews are the highest on record. anti-semitic flyers have popped up in san francisco, palo alto, and danville, but jew belong remains undeterred, putting up billboards in the bay area and around the country. >> i'm not going away because

a 50 year annual march in washington, d.c. is different this year. antiabortion advocates marched in a country where the supreme court has ended the constitutional right to abortion. 50 years ago this weekend, the high court's decision established a right to abortion and that is no longer the case. despite the recent ruling, the protests on both sides continue. >> it is clear virginians want fewer abortions, not more. >> wisconsinite overwhelmingly support row and access to abortion. liz: kamala harris plans focus on reproductive rights at the state level. demonstrations are happening for each side. in san francisco, abortion rights advocates will march from

water supply after the storm damage, to keep at 70 horses alive. they've water supplies since the storms because fallen trees broke the main pipe that brings in their water. each horse drinks around 10 gallons a day. >> water and those will be empty soon. people bringing it from home and us bucketing it from the stream and carrying it to the water troughs. liz: they are usually able to fix issues but there are so many trees they cannot get to it. mid-peninsula regional open space division owns the land. they are trucking in thousands of gallons of water while the pipeline awaits repairs. let's get a check of the forecast, no rain this weekend, but is there rain on the

liz: it's lunar new year's on sunday, but california is the first state to make it a holiday. chinatown has been busy with shoppers getting ready, and one of the go to shops is a bakery that's been around nearly a century. karina nova has the story. karina: business around 98 years would have many secrets, but eastern bakery has its share. there's the secret recipe behind its sought-after coffee crunch cake, or its other secret recipe for moon cakes. there's another secret that, well, is not so secret, if you listen to the owner -- great visitors. orlando quan, the oldest owner of the oldest chinatown bakery speaks perfect vanish. there's a reason for the -- spanish.

karina: the moon cakes make eastern bakery stand out, traditionally eaten during the mid autumn festival. kind of like a chinese thanksgiving in september. >> even in china, you don't get this quality. we have to cook the filling for eight hours and we have a secret recipe. >> the baker has all the recipes. when he starts mixing the fillings, he kicks everybody out and has one assistant because he doesn't want anyone to know the process. karina: in the 1960's, david bley worked for the original owner and remembers lines of workers. >> they were making thousands. we had about 30 people around a big table. one part of production is to make a ball out of the filling. the next department, they make the do and you put -- dough,

you put the filling in, stuff the whole thing in the mold. bang bang, it comes out round with the printing on top. karina: moon cakes are one attraction, along with the coffeecake. it is full of flavor and nostalgia. >> my father and i would come out here and have the coffee crunch cake. the sugar, crunch, and coffee taste, nice memories. >> it's a secret emory, crispy, very good -- secret recipe, crispy, very good. karina: he's owned the bakery for 37 years and has not reopened the inside since the pandemic. he greets customers from a small table at the door. after 98 years, he doesn't want to think about what happens to the bakery when he calls it quits. >> about 100 years, nothing lives forever. it's ok.

coast of pacifica, a 22-year-old from santa monica. he is a sophomore and is part of the wrestling team. according to "the chronicle," two of his friends say a large breaker swept him out to sea on thursday. a storm cleanup -- as storm cleanup continues, a home is a total loss after a landslide. the force ripped the house from its base and sent it sliding down a hill. an inspector deemed it unsafe. the family was not there. a home next has been yellow tagged. in santa cruz, traffic controls are in place along westcliff drive so crews can assess the damage from the storms. they will complete on emergency stabilization plan monday at 6:00 a.m. drivers can expect detours and

one-way traffic between columbia street and woodrow avenue. after mudslides and two road closures, niles canyon road is back open. mudslides have popped up across the bay area, including two at niles canyon. one stop service on a train. drivers should be cautious and look out for debris. the edd is looking to communications to prevent fraud, after a bay area father says he is paying their -- paying the price of a mistake. he filed a fraud report after his employer said he filed for unemployment and he never did. he never heard back. the edd confiscated the tax refund last year and also paid the scammer more than $15,000, even after ronald reported the fraud. >> they used my name, social security, but they are addressed. >> it's been hard.

we are a single income with three kids, a nine-year-old and four-year-old twins. kids require a lot of money. liz: ronald says the edd told him the fraud report was lost in transition after upgrading the computers. they finally did return the money. thousands of bay area residents are losing their jobs as massive layoffs in the tech industry continue. alphabet is cutting nearly 12,000 jobs effective immediately. that is 6% of its workforce. intel is laying off workers as well, 545 jobs. two are at santa clara. 34 thousand tech jobs have been eliminated recently according to our abc7news layoff tracker. dustin dorsey spoke with the tech expert about the impact. dustin: once sitting atop the

financial mountain, tech companies are facing a return to normalcy. the bottom line for giants like microsoft and google is forcing employees to feel hate. that heat. -- feel the heat. >> we have to work hard, evaluate people. it is an indication the company is looking very carefully at the bottom line and trying to cut costs. dustin: a san jose professor and tech expert, he says those cuts start with employees. >> a lot of friends work at google so i'm worried. dustin: 12,000 employees from alphabet joined tends of thousands of employees cut as they await budget decisions for 2023. the tech sector hiring 200,000 plus employees, more than double the previous decade. >> during the pandemic, google

makes it feel even colder. oakland down to 37, san francisco in the low 40's. a beautiful sight this morning of the golden gate bridge. sunny skies and cold nights, the dry pattern continues seven to 10 days. looking at the warming trend by the middle of next week where temperatures rebound into the low 60's. as we look at the coastal flood advisory, the king tides are back. some low-lying areas, parking lots are flooded. the highlighted areas along the bayshore. be a way of the high tide coming in at 10:15, over seven feet, and tomorrow at 11:00. the low tide at 5:15 tonight. that will be with us for some hazards, but as we look up to the cloud cover just a few high clouds.

tonight, we increase the cloud cover but it will be awfully cold. getting into a sunny sunday for the 49ers where temperatures will be in the 50's. back to a more clear sky on monday. there's a look at the light wind 3:00 sunday monday, a season will -- a system will allow for gusty wind that will ramp up in the afternoon, 20 miles an hour with 30 mile per hour gusts. this will help the overnight lows to stay up in the upper 30's and low 40's into sunday night and monday. into the second half of the weekend, some minor changes. also looking at sneaker waves and the possibility of dangerous rip currents along the coast. the beach hazards statement takes us through tomorrow afternoon from sonoma to monterey, seven to eight foot
