in half moon bay. governor newsom was in half moon bay just a few hours ago he joined other politicians to speak out about gun violence. the only survivor of the shooting is still in the hospital. they are all hispanic or asian. investigators say this is a case of workplace violence. >> the violent started at mountain mushroom farm. less than 3 miles, more shooting on highway 1. reporters working on the story to make sure that we are getting you all of the latest information. you will hear from zach fuentes, stephanie sierra and luz pena. >> let's go live to liz. have you ever heard the governor speak as passionately as he did today?

>> yes. i cannot think of a time recently, the governor this visibly upset. he was visibly shaking. -- shaken. about the shooting here in half moon bay when he was at the hospital in monterey park, meeting with survivors of the shooting there. the governor did not shy away from calling for gun reform. and he blames republicans for not doing more. >> governor gavin newsom did not waste time or mince words today as he spoke to reporters in half moon bay. >> the one common denominator i have no ideological opposition to someone wielding a gun responsibly but what the hell is wrong with us that we allow these weapons of war with large capacity clips out on the sidewalks.

>> we are learning new details about how investigators allegedly found the suspect at this station here in half moon bay. sources are telling the i team that they were inside that lexus suv with the seat reclined and that semi-automatic handgun next to him. he was allegedly attempting to end a text message to his wife saying something long the lines of cu in the next life. investigators are not speculating about what he may have meant by that but it is certainly one of many questions that has yet to be answered. new details unfolding about mass shooting suspects chunli zhao. the 66-year-old half moon bay resident lived and worked at mountain mushroom farm as a forklift driver for several years. >> on the -- all the evidence we have points to this being

workplace violence. quickly i deem allegedly targeted all it victims believed to be coworkers. investigators say it appears they had a lot of built up anger in what has been described as an ongoing feud with his victims. aside from the prior restraining order. detectives say the suspect had no significant criminal history or no mental health issues. >> i will say there were no specific indicators that would have led us to believe he was capable of something like this. >> the sheriff's office has the semi-automatic handgun they lead to the used was legally purchased and owned. sources say there appear to be a language barrier between he and others. >> victims were adults and a mixture of hispanic and asian. quickly i team learned first responders witnessed is out leaving that location on mushroom farm. that is right on highway 92. before going a mere 3 miles away to where the second shooting took place.

shortly after, investigators reportedly pinned his phone. sources are looking into whether or not he tried to send a text message to his wife at some point before he was taken to the ground and arrested at the substation. >> we never had one in this county, not this many deaths in one scene. >> for tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 where we will learn the formal charges filed against him. the sheriff's office does tell us that he had been booked on seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree attempted murder. all eight counts allow for firearm enhancements. you can see it is dark now. the sheriff's office is still blocking off the entrance of mushroom mountain farm here. we did see the fbi leave around 30 minutes ago. we are told investigators are still here at both firms and will be working through the night. quick thank you, given suspects passed connection to

these farms, it is obvious it was a targeted attack but what are you hearing about what evidence there is to prove there was targeting? >> we have heard from several sources that both shooting locations had other people there at the time both shootings took place. we are told that at least 15 other people were here at the time the shooting took place and thankfully we are not but investigators are telling us along with some other details, they are signaling this is certainly the targeted intentional act. quick thank you very much. we are learning that the man held for this mass shooting made threats against his workplace -- a different one about 10 years ago. dan noyes has that part of the story from san jose. that is new at 6:00. >> just coming out of santa clara county superior court.

it looks like they have a history of making threats associated with his workplace. jaquiski lived with three roommates at this san jose address. one of them also worked at a local restaurant with him. in march of that year, they got a temporary restraining order binding shouted stay 300 got away from him at work and 3 yards while both parties are at the residence. the roommate accused jail while making threats of making life difficult and threatening to kill me if i don't get his job back. he goes on to describe a terrifying morning on march 12 of 2018. he wrote that mr. xia came into my room unnoticed and asked for his salary. the roommate told him to go ask for it at the restaurant but he answered today i will kill you and tried to suffocate him with a pillow. i used all of my might within a few seconds to push him away. the two of them continue to wrestle until he said he convinced him to talk peacefully. he wrote that two days later, he

live at half moon bay. >> we are talking about that support and frustration out here on main street. i want to show you a live look at the support coming in for this community and his memorial that are slowly growing out here. you can see that sign as a community, we grieve. this community is grieving. just like the rest of the community leaders here at the state lawmakers tell me they are also looking into what they can do at the legislative level to help prevent another one of these tragedies. as the investigation continued, the recovery is only beginning. >> the witnesses have shared with us that he targeted people. he knew exactly who he was going after. he shot several of them the face.

there is a great deal of trauma and pain in the community. a lot of the discussion is what we need to do next in assisting people in the community. ? berman says just a day ago, he was on the capitol steps. other leaders were joined like state senator josh becker him and more. a nonprofit dedicated to helping the local latino community. they are providing support to the impacted shootings. many of whom are farmworkers. >> this seems to be an instance of workplace frustration. that happens on a minute by minute basis. what doesn't happen will be mass shootings.

25-year-old was arrested without incident and served as temporary restraining order. he has posted bail, not a felony arrest. there are many different factors, including what the relationship is, did they live together, did they have children together? there was a visible injury. there was the mere complaint of pain. >> a mentor who has been part of the defensive line. the team so we are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering further information. we reached out to his business and marketing contact race out of this point. he says he intends to clear the air and get the story straight. we have not yet heard back since that. the santa clara county da. they will make the deciding decision on whether or not

they log gun violence incidents. over the last year, he says that it is up by approximately 25%. >> the number of people killed and injured, the number of mass shootings has gone up dramatically. melanie: the numbers peaked in 2021. or the last two years, they have been flat so far. >> we are on the same level as we were last year. melanie: while the number is the same, the number of victims per shooting has increased. >> they are getting louder and bigger. that tells me that people are using high-capacity magazines. it tells me that people are using semi automatic assault type rifles. melanie: the weapons perpetrators use speak to their crimes as well. >> while the guy in monterey park used an extended magazine, he killed more people faster. the person in half moon bay

suzanne tells us investigators say the shots were fired during the filming of a music video. suzanne: the shootings in oakland on monday rattled local leaders and the community. any of them were deeply disturbed, given the recent shootings in half moon bay and monterey park. >> this is the third mass shooting in california in less than a week. this is the 39th mass shooting in america in 2023. suzanne: a total of five people were shot monday night, one person died. three other people were hurt in a car crash connected to the shooting. >> 40 to 50 people were at a location where they were filming a music video. while the recording of the gunfire broke out firm multiple shooters in various directions. suzanne: they got themselves to the hospital. 18-year-old mario navarro was killed. investigators believe the shooting may be gang related. captain tony jones is with the

were reportedly found at the indiana home of armor vice president mike pence. the department of justice now reviewing the matter. according to letters obtained, a representative for the former vp says that on january 16, pentz asked lawyers to review records that were stored in his home. that is when lawyers found a small number of documents that could potentially come pain -- contain sensitive information. he immediately secure the documents in a locked safe, adding that he was unaware of utter stated that pens turn the documents over to the fbi on january 19. sources say the search was done proactively in the wake of classified documents inc. found at president joe biden's wilmington home and old office. just two weeks ago, pentz was on fox news news, slamming the department of justice thing they should treat biden investigation the same as trump. in november, months before all of this came to light, he told
