>> so this one is in a that is way beyond anything we've ever dealt with. ama: the man accused of seeking out and killing seven people at farms and half moon bay makes his first court appearance as we are getting new details about the victims. dan: tonight, we know the nam of all seven people killed in monday's shooting and half moon bay. here they are. now we have team coverage for you on this tragedy tonight. tim johns spoke with leaders in the a api community including one that attended the vigil tonight. ama: we begin with j.r.

wher abo wharet happened monday. reporter: i spoke with a friend of one of the victims who told me that no one deserves to die the way that these individuals died. heartbreaking. tonight, the memorial and half moon bay continues to grow. flowers, candles, signs. the memorial for the seven people that were killed and half moon bay is growing. those we talked with wednesday night new marciano martinez, one of the victims who is also from oaxaca, mexico. >> we would say hi to him. we would randomly talk about hard days and things like that. so it's just really sad for us to hear of his passing due to this event. >> he likes to play the guitar. sometimes he plays in church with other friends. it rocked my mind. not just me. everybody. reporter: as the community

mourns, suspected gunman 66-year-old -- went before a judge wednesday who denied his bail. >> he's not a citizen of this country. plenty of motive to run. for that reason, it was a straightforward and simple request for no bail. reporter: the victims were asian and mexican migrants. many of their family members are still waiting to go home. staying at hotels paid for by the mushroom farm's where they live and work. county officials say they should get to go home by friday. the governor on tuesday had strong words regarding their living conditions. >> some of you should see where these folks are living. the conditions they are in. living in shipping containers, living in shipping containers. reporter: those i california terra gardens formerly mountain mushroom farm where one of the shootings happened responded saying, shipping containers doesn't reflect what's on

property. going on to say, workers live in mobile trailers or large rvs that have passed county inspections. also saying, employee wages start at 16.50 and go to over $20 an hour. the farm charges around $300 a family to live there. some we spoke with say they don't believe that. >> a lot of people live in poor conditions. they don't feel comfortable to raise their voices to the employers. reporter: nobody is representing them? >> nobody. reporter: sad to hear at a time when so many lives have been lost. community members told me this evening they are working on organizing a concert to raise money for some of the families here. all of that is in the works right now. the suspect did not enter a plea. he will be back in court in mid february. j.r. stone, abc7news. dan: thank you.

the charging documents give a better idea of the timeline of the shooting. the names are in the order they think the victims were killed. an eighth person was shot but survive. five of them are chinese migrants, to our mexican migrants. ama: many are feeling the impacts of these shootings and half moon bay and monterey park. no one community is harder hit than the asian american one. tim johns has been talking with local community leaders about just that all night and joins us live from the newsroom. reporter: one important thing to remember is that not only were both shooters and most of the victims asian but that the shootings happened during the new -- lunar new year celebrations. one person told me it's a can to having to mass shootings happen on a holiday like christmas. to mass shootings happening just hours apart, rocking the asian american community to its core. >> it's rare. it's unheard of. reporter: the executive director of san francisco-based stand

with asian americans. he says the attacks have sent shockwaves through the local aapi community especially because of their timing. happening right at the start of the sacred lunar new year celebrations. >> for us to see this happen and to think that elderly asians committing these during this time, it strikes close to our hearts and our families. reporter: he says the attacks are just one part of the story. he tells me the past several years have been difficult for many asian americans due to the pandemic and the spike in hate crimes that it fueled. >> this is a wake-up call for our community to check in on each other, to look at our mental health. reporter: vigils have been happening around the bay area. wednesday night alone, people placed crosses in santa clara and gathered in oakland. carl chan was one of those in attendance at the east bay event. he says some in the community are fearful that the shootings

could spark retaliation. >> some folks will be using this to start another attacking of the aapi community. reporter: they say it's important for those both inside and outside of the aapi community to show support, staying strong during a difficult time while also not letting the past weighs him down. >> please don't let these incidents stop us from doing what we do every day. we have to move on. reporter: there will be another vigil tomorrow night and san francisco's portsmouth swear at 5:30. abc7news. ama: please consider donating to --. they've been supporting the farmworker community for a long time. it has established a half moon bay strong fund. go to our website for a link they are grateful for monetary donations during this difficult

time. dan: the monterey park community continues to mourn after a mass shooting last weekend. people gather tonight for another candlelight vigil honoring the 11 who died and nine who were hurt. the vigil coincided with a visit by vice president kamala harris. she laid flowers, taking time to visit each victims photo. the vice president called on congress to act on gun reform. >> can this congress do anything? >> they absolutely can. they have the power to. can they do something? yes. should they do something? yes. >> will say? >> that is where we all have to speak up. dan: the vice president paid her respects to the monterey park victims privately. ama: new details on a robbery and shooting outside a camera store in campbell around 11:00 a.m. in south winchester. one person was injured and multiple suspects are on the loose.

amanda del castillo has the story. reporter: scattered about outside san jose camera and video in campbell, equipment and evidence markers. on wednesday, the law surrounding the family owned shop became the scene of an armed robbery and shooting. >> engine 81 medical. reporter: work and her graphic bangs. she thought it may have been firecrackers for lunar new year. >> there was gunshots right here , yards from our building. reporter: she recalls hearing up to five gunshots. one person was shot and taken to a local hospital. >> the scene is secure. gunshots into the -- wound to the abdomen. reporter: they are not yet giving details about their condition. police dogs worked the scene, parked vehicles had bullet holee

gun fire, she estimates the action lasted seconds. >> it looked like one of the workers at san jose camera was on his phone, frantic and scared. then i saw two cars just take off really fast. reporter: multiple suspects remain at large. similar to other crimes we've covered around the bay area. in november, $180,000 in merchandise was stolen from a camera shop in a robbery near san francisco's union square. surveillance shows for people get outing of a great -- getting out of a gray sedan. earlier this month, another robbery at this high-end camera store. this incident also involved a group of suspects. campbell pd says it's too early to speculate whether wednesday's robbery is connected or whether it's part of a growing crime trend. >> this is scary. people won't come here and buy

stuff. you can't afford to h watching all your customers. reporter: owners put up a note alerting customers about that robbery, saying for the wet -- mental well-being of their staff they won't be reopening until the 30th. abc7news. dan: new developments. we could see police body camera of the attack on nancy pelosi's husband. abc was among media groups requesting the footage of the october attack inside pelosi san francisco home. a judge approved its release. paul pelosi suffered a skull fracture in october when he was hit in the head with a hammer by an intruder heard prosecutor say was targeting his wife. david the papp has pleaded not guilty in the case. his attorney argued against releasing the recordings. it's not clear when the video would be released. ama: southwest airlines finds itself in hot water over the holiday meltdown that led to thousands of flights being

to understand what choice really means. ama: california state senator was part of an unveiling at san francisco city hall of the san francisco bay area abortion rights coalition. the partnership of local governments and reproductive health groups will work together to protect abortion rights. those behind the coalition say it's a first of its kind group to support reproductive justice and freedom. dan: charles a minute will play in the nfc championship this weekend after being arrested on monday. the head coach says the team will let legal proceedings play out. the defensive event was arrested on suspension -- suspicion of domestic violence. his girlfriend said he pushed her to the ground and caused her arm pain. the case will be sent to the santa clara county district attorney's office for possible charges. encouraging news about the covid booster shot. the booster cuts the risk of symptomatic infection in half.
