having them stolen are not being careless. our team reporter is getting a closer look at the common technique used and how victims are getting help. >> i came out of the garage door and i saw them running down the driveway. >> san ramon resident is installing a new security system. after his $3000 mountain bike was stolen in late december in the middle of the day. >> i had been robbed, within two minutes. >> he reported it to the police but two days later -- >> somebody sought on facebook marketplace. >> that somebody was brian hance a cofounder nprit that works with police agencies across the country to help consumers recover stolen bikes and tracked on the people involved. >> i was sitting here having my coffee in the first thing i do is say hey i found your bike, i found your bike, and we figure out what to do. >> he did for mcnamara, he found this ad selling a bike believed to be his on facebook

marketplace. >> the second i looked at the photo i knew it was my bike, these are my pedals, these are the aftermarket tires. >> he says the theft is believed to be part of an organized crime ring stealing high-end bikes in cities across the east bay, north bay and parts of san francisco. this video shows a group taking off of bikes for my home along ashbury street in the panhandle last august. the same thing happened to this man last week. it collects all six of my bikes were stolen. >> he lives in the city's triangle neighborhood and his six bikes worth around $30,000 are gone. >> this is a deliberate targeted pattern. >> police say this pattern seen with a string of burglaries involves suspects breaking into the garage by puncturing a hole in the class and using a rod to pull the emergency cord. >> with your garage door they take a coat hanger and slide it into the door through the plastic molding looking forward

to grab the cord. >> according to vance victims are reporting suspects drive off in a white van or suv after case in the neighborhood. between one to six people are usually involved. how quickly are the bike selling? >> super fast. it really fast. we have seen it stolen bikes disappear within an hour. >> investigators say the people reselling turn out to be familiar faces like in mcnamara's case. >> we have seen the sky at least twice. in december of 2022 we saw list and sell another stolen bike that was 100% matched by the victim. >> he says the person that posted the ad to sell his bike to the same thing with these bike stolen from the snowy valley garage in december of last year. >> this is a job for some people. robbing people and taking these bikes and selling them and moving them from state to state.
