>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. dan: moon bay a memorial service is underway to remember seven people killed last week at two mushroom farms in the city. that evening, thank you for joining us. >> the service started just about an hour ago giving community members a chance to come together in their grief. dan: amanda is there an joins us live. >> this marks another night of healing for the residence of half moon bay.

heart of downtown half moon bay are behind two nights events as well beginning with the memorial service that started on kelly avenue after 4:00 p.m. with much more to follow. the community is expected to take part in a candlelight procession to the hall on main street. significant considering that is the location where victims families met on the night of the shooting to learn about the tragedy and hear the news that would forever change their lives. >> this community is even stronger than i thought it was even though i thought it was a strong community, it is even stronger. i am sure the people want to go back to the way we work which is being known for our pumpkins and the pumpkin festival. so we need to grieve and try to move forward and get back to where we were and hopefully, a very important message i think

is to make the conditions for the farmworkers and prove them a lot. >> then it is dinner and fellowship which is expected to begin at 6:00 p.m.. we saw hundreds at the friday evening the vigil where part of the message surrounding togetherness to help with that healing process and it is something the half moon bay residents have taken to heart as they continue to mourn the seven who were killed and continue to support the sole survivor. >> thank y san mateo county's board of supervisors held a moment of silence in memory of the victims at their meeting today and the board of supervisors is discussing the path to move forward and figure out mental health and proper living situations for farmworkers. >> with these mass killings continuing to occur, things need to change.

government cannot solve all the issues nor can nonprofits nor can business but when we work together and are strong, we provide a united front. >> the board is calling on a newsom to provide resources to provide farmworkers with a safe and quality life. they have reserved the first week of february as a national gun violence survivors week. >> tomorrow newsom is expected to announce new gun safety legislation. this comes in the wake of the recent mass shootings and half moon bay and monterey park. >> despite the call for stricter gun laws in california a ruling last year by the supreme court has loosened san francisco's loss around who can carry in public. our

war on what this means -- joins us for more on what this means. >> making it harder for states to pass restrictive gun measures, this is an example of just that. san francisco has issued a handful of concealed weapons permits over the past decade but according to the sheriffs office that is now about to change. >> is democratic stricter gun laws -- call for stricter gun laws one is now loosening. a ccw is a concealed carry weapons permit that allows ordinary citizens to legally carry a firearm in public. for years san francisco lot made it nearly impossible to get one. a decision last year loosened eligibility requirements for the permits. he says applicants no longer need to prove good cause. >> which basically means as long

as you clear our background procedures and as long as you take a safety course and demonstrate you are responsible, you are given the opportunity to have a license. >> the sheriff says a person given a ccw not be able to bring it into government offices or schools. the change is a reflection of the increasing obstacles gun control advocates are facing in california as federal judges and the supreme court take aim at state and local gun laws. newsom called out judges my name. >> judge nelson, >> back. san francisco board of supervisors catherine stefani said she is working on legislation to create sensitive

areas where firearms will be prohibited including hospitals and daycare centers. ask i would be 100% in support of that. >> she also wants to put limits on people with ccw's. >> any move backwards is a loss for us and we will fight it every step of the way. >> do and general federal judges targeting our state local laws? >> i do have very serious concerns about people using any and all means necessary to get access to guns period. >> the sharp says they have 72 applications and process for a ccw permit compared to about 4 they processed in the past few years. once a person is approved they will have to complete a training program before the permit is issued. san francisco is the only county requiring applicants take a psychological exam as well. >> thank you very much.

in alameda county the district attorney reopening six deadly police shootings and two in custody deaths. price announced the newly formed public accountability units. the case is being reviewed include the death of mario gonzalez who died by -- while being restrained. two of the cases involve hector jimenez who shot and killed two unarmed men within a seven month period. andrew and mack. the deadly shootings both involving hayward police are also being reviewed. as well as the deaths of joshua gloria bite fremont officers and cody chavez of pleasanton. all are being reopened. >> the new york times is reporting the initial memphis police report on the traffic stop of tyre nichols contains

claims that are contradicted by police body cam footage. they claim he was pulled over for speeding and reckless driving on a january 7 which is not seen on the video. they wrote he was violent and grabbed a gun from an officer. an officer also claimed to be a victim in the report. the report failed to mention officers kicking and punching nichols. nichols died three days later from his injuries. the funeral for tyre nichols is scheduled for tomorrow in memphis. it was announced at the invitation of the family kamala harris will attend. she spoke with the family today. dan: in sacramento where he grew up, friends and family rather to honor him at one of his favorite spots to remember him. melanie wingo is there. >> sunsets and skateboarding, both favorites of tyre nichols.

both suspects taken into custody. dan: san francisco police and city officials say they are stepping up efforts to make everyone feel safe at the lunar new year parade and street fair this weekend. they acknowledge the heightened concern following the shootings as well as concerns about things like car break-ins. police say there will be a lot of officers in chinatown if anyone needs help. e dict attorney guarantees anyone who commits a crime will face justice. >> should anyone do any criminal nature with respect to this event it will be held accountable. we want to make sure this parade is something that is celebratory as it should be. dan: the street fair is saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.. celebrating the year of the rabbit is sunday at 5:15. ama: looking to the future.

spots. tomorrow morning, not quite as cold but still cold. 32 in santa rosa, 32 livermore. tomorrow afternoon similar temperatures as today. mid 50's to the low 60's with an increase in high cloudiness. we are going to take a look at january, 16 of the last 31 days have been dried. while it started off wet and we were on a roll, you can see we have had more dry days than wet days this month. next month things will be changing. friday morning we see light to moderate rain moving into the bay area and scattered showers friday morning. continuing off and on through the evening before our next system gets here. saturday evening and that continues into sunday. lower snow levels in the sierra nevada. two storms but neither are atmospheric rivers. the two storms combined rainfall totals will range from about
