the mayor of oakland responded to an i team piece about possible sex trafficking outside of school. we first showed you what was going on last week, possible prostitution and human trafficking outside st anthony's a k through eight grade of sai'n east 15th st. the oakland police department will be enhancing patrols around the school, and the fbi will be installing additional surveillance cameras. we ask the mayor about her thoughts. >> i am shocked by this. city and my team have been in contact with members of the community, we are taking steps already. one thing is opd will enforcement, targeting the people who are feeling the problem. we will be installing diverters, street signs, and similar steps to that, the environmental designed to make sure that cars can't come in to just sit in the middle of the street. we will continue outreach so that we can all work together to identify and address trafficking

. no person should be a victim of sex trafficking. we need to work with various groups and organizations to make sure we can tackle this. alma: he spoke with the mayor on midday live at 11 a.m.. larry: this raises a question, should sex work be legalized? this one county supervisor is making a push to create a red light district in the city. some living in the mission say that sex trafficking problems are as bad as they have ever seen it, and now supervisor says they are backing a plan to a so-called red knight district, where sex work would be allowed. >> what we are wanting to do is push our state legislature to legalize sex trade in california. this would allow localities to regulate the trade and keep people safe. larry: there is no specific proposal on the table right now, no location has been targeted. this isn't the first time the

zack found advocates for human trafficking victims say this case highlights the need to better fight labor trafficking. zach: it was 2018 when family members were charged with human trafficking labor abuse. california attorney general said it all happened over the course of 10 years while they operating rainbow bright. the attorney general saying that the family targeted members of the filipino community, many of whom recently emigrated to the u.s., trafficking many of the victims by threatening arrest and deportation. they also made false promises to help victims with immigration and confiscated passports. >> levels of abuse in this case that again, really reflect dehumanization. zach: they previously pled guilty to two counts of grand theft. later, the other three were found guilty of other charges. felony theft of labor and ted

labor fraud. joshua was sentenced to nine months in prison, and currently not five years, and the south bay coalition to end trafficking say what victims went through happens too often. >> with labor trafficking cases, it is really hard for folks to connect with the level of trauma that happens with this form of trafficking and with labor exploitation. individuals carry this, for years. zach: trafficking is putting someone in a situation where they are exploited by using force, fraud, or coercion. >> it is not that someone is chained in a basement. folks can appear they have freedom of movement but they are not able to leave the situation. without fear that there will be repercussions. zach: the south bay coalition to end human trafficking hopes that more victims can be rescued from similar environments and the community can look for what signs to help those living.

available in alameda, contra costa, and santa cruz counties. larry: building a better bay area means a safer bay area. there is an effort underway to protect the un-house from traffic collisions. this comes on the heels of a recent crash that killed a homeless person. you have dustin dorsey to show you what is being done to help. dustin: the records no one wanted to break were broken in 2022. most traffic and pedestrian fatalities in modern history. 2023 was off to a much better start, but the numbers are up. four lives claim, two of them pedestrians. >> extremely disappointing and frustrating for us. dustin: people walking, killed on the roadways. the community, and lived in a nearby encampment. >> i almost got hit a couple times.

score -- store to purchase the card. if she did it within 100 minutes, they were throwing a visa gift card. she was suspicious but decided to take him up on his offer. >> i really wanted to take advantage of the deal. i was money drunk, meaning i kind of wasn't thinking things through. michael: she submitted her card id and access codes as required. she would later learn this camera immediately drained her cards of its funds. last year, the ftc warns that target gift cards have become the favorite for scammers. target gift cards total $35 million in payments to scammers, more than two times then any other brand of gift card. >> before the card was even taken out of the wrapping, it was cashed out and spent at a target store. michael: his family has had trouble with gift cards purchase from target at least twice. the pch a00ift card from targeta

chris: it is super bowl week in arizona, this has to be so hard for the 49ers to watch. injuries caught up with them. we are getting a better timeline for brock purdy's plan to recover from his elbow. he is said to have surgery on the torn ucl, expected recovery time is six months, which puts him in line for the early parts of training camp in late july. expected to be fully cleared in the coming weeks. oh trey lance. >> i would way. brock played way too well and he played at such a high level and handled himself the right way. i don't want it to be a situation where i am just handed something. i feel so bad for brock for his injury. i truly believe everything happens for a reason. he will be better for it, and i will be better for it.
