announcer: building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7 news. >> and also you heard the big boom. before i know it, the front window shattered. ama: an explosion and fire rocks the san francisco neighborhood. it was powerful enough to knock a home off its foundation. and we now know that that's one person is dead. good evening. i'm ama daetz. dan: and i'm dan ashley. we know one other person and a firefighter were injured. we still don't know what caused the explosion. that was felt blocks away. abc7 news reporter j.r. stone following this developing story and is at the scene. you spoke with firefighters. what are row hearing? >> that firefighter is back

home. that otherperson who is hurt still in the hospital in serious condition. here we are more than 12 hours after this happened, and i want to step out of the bay because you can seei seeing this -- because this is still an investigation. >> san francisco firefighters lined up shoulder to shoulder recovering the body of an individual who had been inside when an explosion went off here earlier in the day. >> i heard one of our neighbors didn't make it out. >> liz knows the people who live in the home where the explosion happened. she was sitting in her car about to take her daughter to school. a neighborhood's home surveillance a block away recorded the loud sounds that everyone then heard. >> i thought it was a bomb. i thought -- i thought a bomb went off. my windows shooterred in the car. it was a husband and disabled

wife and home nurse. so the home nurse came running out and she was half charred. hair charred, you know, curled up because of the flames. >> firefighters said one person died during the explosion and another was seriously hurt. a firefighter wo injured. after the explosion, this home was one of three that caught fire according to investigators. drone video shot by a neighbor shows the black smoke billowing into the air. >> all the house was on fight i didn't see much because i was more worried about my mom, my dad and my dog. firefighters say that's two homes were knocked off their foundations. also saying that's three nearby homes and that's five cars were damaged by the blast that broke windows and had many cleaning up glass into the late hours. >> we are escorting people on this side.

j.r.: those people were able to go home even though firefighters have not yet determined what caused the explosion. sadly, the loss of their neighbor is on the minds of many. >> it's sad to see who were in the house. >> i hope the family is ok. >> and back out here live this evening, you can see all of the crews. they plan to be here throughout the overnight hours clearing that debris and hauling it out of here i did talk with firefighters and i asked them if this could have been gas, electric or drug related. they told me, right now, everyone is on the table. reporting live in san francisco, j.r. stone, abc7 news. ama: j.r., thank you. new details out of oakland. the owner of a beloved bakery has died from a robbery. jana had been in a medically induced coma. she was dragged while trying to

stop thieves who broke into her car. friends describes described her as a community activist but she found angel cakes bakery which has a store front in january london square. the bakery provides cupcakes and pastries do many in the oakland community >> she was such a community builder and would want -- all that knew her or want her even tasted her cup cakes or heard about her to come together and support each other and to think about how question build a world that's more beautiful, more full of cup cakes, joy and love, and share that with each other. ama: a go fund me has been open. the shop has seen an outpouring of support. they're asking customers to buy gift cards because staff is overwhelmed. >> the last few years have been tough. and our challenges ahead even

>> public safety concerns. a spiraling fentanyl crisis empty offices. shuttered businesses. >> she weigh out her plan to deal with them all. most notably reducing crime and revitalizing a downtown ravaged by the pandemic. she wants to do several things. first, she wants to reform the city's tax structure causes increases and give ago tax break for any company that comes to san francisco. she wants to increase sfpd back to full staffing and have millions of dollars in funding. >> our residents are asking that we build back our police force and we need to deliver that. >> establishing those goals won't be easy. >> i've seen san francisco and other cities deal with one or two of these at one time. but i've never seen when faced with all of them. besides getting the political
