today? drew: it is. jobina: and the blue, we are connected. drew: it starts off nice with sunshine. the back half of the day we will see clouds and showers. we have fog, but it is not thick. the worst spot is santa rosa at five miles. not dense. right now, we are in the 30's and 40's. layers are needed. but we have calm c we have mainly clear skies above. and for the day, we have sunshine for the first part. very nice out there. clouds will arrive in the afternoon. then showers in the forecast. early one for. but as the evening goes on, i think that everybody will be fair game for a shower.

today will be cooler than yesterday. we will stay in the 50's. we'll go hour-by-hour to show you the shower chance, which will linger into part of your saturday. that is in eight minutes. kumasi: now to that explosion that killed a person. crews are still at the home at 22nd and a sunset, nearly 20 hours after the blast. it was so powerful it knocke the home off of its foundation. we have lena on the scene. reporter: after about 20 hours after this all happened, this block is still shut down now with a very heavy police presence as the investigation into what happened at this home behind us is still underway. now, most neighbors were allowed to go home late last night, but some didn't because there are still five homes evacuated here,

according to the last update from fire officials. our crews were on the scene after happened. the firefighters lined up shoulder to shoulder as the rescue crews made a grim discovery last night recovering , the body of an individual who had been inside when an explosion went off here earlier in the day. that person had been unaccounted for until search k-9 teams were brought into to help. another person was inside that did get seriously injured, as well as a firefighter that responded to the incident. this person knows the people who lived in the home where the explosion happened. she was in her car, about to take her daughter to school. >> i thought it was a bomb. i thought a bomb had went off. my windows shattered in the car. it was a husband and disabled wife, and a home nurse.

injuries from a robbery this week. her name was jen angel. she was jagged while trying to stop thieves who broke into her car. friends described her as a community activist, but she also founded angel cakes bakery, which has a storefront and jack london square. it provides cupcakes and other pastries in the community. >> she was edgy community builder. all of us that knew her, loved her. all of us are coming together to support each other and think about how we can build a world that is more beautiful, more full of cupcakes, joy and love. we will share that with each other. reggie: a gofundme has been set up to support her loved ones and keep the bakery open. the shop has already seen support, so much so that people are asking customers to purchase gift cards rather than order

food right now because the staff is so overwhelmed. kumasi: today, the suspect in the half moon bay mass shooting last month is expected to be in court. they will focus on if case documents will be posted online moving forward. the suspect has been charged with seven counts of murder. he could face death, if convicted. seven people die, one person was hurt in the shootings. it is believed to be an active workplace violence. investigators say that they are busting a crime ring that has been targeting apple stores. eight people are in custody this morning. these are the products recovered, thousands of dollars worth of iphones, ipads and other electronics. the attorney general says the suspects stole $1 million of goods between last year and last month. >> this goes far beyond shoplifting. this is organized criminal

activity into we will not put up with it in our estate. we are holding these -- in our state. we are holding these individuals accountable. kumasi: he thanked agencies around the state for helping in the investigation. reggie: a special counsel probe into donald trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, we have learned that mike pence has been served a subpoena to testify in the investigation. jobina: the subpoena comes after months of negotiations between federal prosecutors and attorneys representing the former vice president. special counsel jack smith is overseeing the investigation. he wants mike pence to testify under oath. multiple sources say that after months of negotiating with mike pence's attorneys, smith issued the subpoena. former u.s. attorney barbara mcquaid spoke with msnbc about the matter. >> i think the things that

donald trump said to mike pence that could reveal whether he knew he lost the election and what he was doing was an improper effort to retain office. jobina: mike pence faced pressure from donald trump and's allies to overturn the 2020 election results. a mob of trump supporters stormed the capitol building after mike pence made it clear he would certify the election tally for joe biden. it is unclear if he will comply with the simply an -- with the subpoena. kumasi: ok, thank you. two resource centers are opening an alameda county today. people are still recovering from the winter storms that caused so much damage, and homeowners, renters and business owners came to visit the disaster recovery centers to get help navigating resources. they will be in oakland, in dublin off of gleason drive, and

the san francisco mayor deliberate her state of the city address with an emphasis on safety. she promised that the city will rise again. >> public safety concerns, a spiraling fentanyl crisis, shuttered businesses -- our residents are demanding we build a safe city into b built back our police force. we need to deliver for them. the push for full staffing has to be consistent it has to be sustained. kumasi: the mayor made it clear that full staffing is still years away. she says public safety is crucial in bringing the downtown economy back to life. >> we must accept another tough act. san francisco's downtown, as we know it, is cannot coming back. and you know what, that's ok. the truth is it will not be one thing that fixes downtown, it

will be many things. kumasi: her plan a roadmap of the future of downtown. it's colin firth tax increases -- it is calling for tax increases on hotels and others, and offering tax breaks for three years for any company that comes to san francisco. reggie: the cost for san francisco's downtown extension project is estimated at more than $6.6 billion. that is the figure of the board received yesterday during their presentation of the financial plan. the vice chair says it is the closest they have been to having a realistic cost estimate for the project, which was supposed to open for service in 2032. >> i think there was sticker shock around $7 approaching the $7 billion figure.

and i think we recognize that the longer this project drags on, the more expensive it will be. reggie: basically this will extend train service from where it ends at king and fourth, to the transit center. they will review the estimates and report back in six months. kumasi: a statue depicting a heroic indian ruler has been recovered after it was stolen from a public park in san jose. we detail what happens and what is coming next. reporter: at guadalupe river park, a look at what was left behind after the 440-pound statue of indian ruler chhatrapati shivajii maharaj. the statue was a gift to residents of san jose in 1999, from its sister city of pune, india. >> i think there's absolutely no reason for somebody to steal it, except a way to sell it for some material.

it is stupid, but people nee. rter: kelkar is the president of the san jose-pune sister city organization, a group that has worked to strengthen ties between the municipalities. on january 31, there was a shock to both communities and beyond after learning the statue had been stolen from atop its five-foot concrete slab. >> to cut the three legs with a huge saw, it made a lot of noise which nobody heard i guess, at night. and it was a 400-pound statue for two or three people to lift it up, put it in your trunk - i --i drive it away. that was quite an effort. reporter: city officials shared earlier photos with abc7 news, showing the statue as it was meant to be displayed. >> the services department is following the theft and contacted metal shops to report the theft, to make sure if it was -- if it showed up at those

district. the home was knocked off of its foundation and it eventually collapsed. our reporter is live at the scene this morning. good morning, lena. reporter: good fire officials and police are still investigating here in the sunset district almost 20 hours after the explosion happened. you can look at the damage behind me along 22nd street. this is the home that exploded yesterday, causing serious damage throughout this neighborhood. we were on the scene hours after it happened, when the san francisco firefighters lined up shoulder to shoulder as rescue crews recovered the body of somebody who had been in the home when an explosion went off here earlier in the day. that person was unaccounted for until the search canine teams were brought in to help. another person was inside that did get seriously injured, as

well as a firefighter that responded to the incident. after the explosion, homes caught fire. drone video shows black smoke billowing into the air. >> the house was on fire, all the houses were on fire. i did not see much because i was more worried about my dad and mom. it's sad to see who was in that house. reporter: fire fighters say at least two homes were also knocked off of their foundations. they added at least three nearby homes and five cars were damaged by the blast that broke windows and had many cleaning up glass into the late hours. most people were allowedo co back home late last night, but we know that five homes on this block are still under evacuation, according to the last update.

we expect to get another update from fire officials coming up in the next half hour. as soon as that happens, we will bring that to you live. in san francisco, abc7 news. kumasi: such a sad story out of oakland, the owner of a beloved bakery has died from injuries that she suffered during a robbery earlier this week. we have the latest on what happened. gloria: jen angel was a business owner and her friends say she was also a political activist who fought for social change, and that is how they want her to be remembered. she had been in a medically induced, since the robbery. she was dragge stop thieves who had broken into her car. angel cakes bakery, which has a storefront, is will known for

its cupcakes and other pastries. angel fought against inequality, her friends say. >> she was a community builder. and she would want all of us, if you had heard about her, to come together to support each other and to think about how we can build a world that is more beautiful, more full of joy and love, and a share that with each other. gloria: more than $100,000 has already been raised to support her loved ones and keep the bakery open. the shop has seen an outpouring of support, so much so organizers are asking customers to purchase gift cards rather than cupcakes for now because the staff is overwhelmed. her organs will be donated and they have been informed that they will help to save the lives of up to 70 people. the gofundme also says that i

the police department makes an arrest in the case, the family would like to see restorative justice. that's according to her beliefs. reggie: she sounds like an incredible person. the city of oakland can start posting eviction notices today as part of the move to clear out the wood street and can't. a federal judge decided to lift the restraining order that was preventing it from closing. they will be building affordable housing at the site. the city says it has three places to move the residents, to nearby cabins here, st. vincent's in uptown and the 66t save site in east oakland. kumasi: people in santa clara county will have access to more resources today. this will be happening for the first time since 2019. dozens of services will be available, including health hpening at cityike

hall from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00. at last check, there were thousands experiencing homelessness in santa clara county. reggie: i schoolgirls and water will no longer be required to answer questions about their menstrual cycle when it comes to school sports. the decision sparked outrage from parents and the public. during a meeting the florida high school athletic association said they would remove the questions, including when was your most recent period, and how many have you had in the past 12 months? one mother, whose daughter plays soccer, started a petition online. >> her eyes welled up concept of giving such personal information. a menstrual cycle is very personal to a young girl and a young woman. reggie: you may wonder why they had in the first place. critics believed the questions were meant to out transgender

and pregnant girls. they point out transgender athletes in florida. supporters also point to evidence that irregular cycles can help doctors spot medical conditions. kumasi: this monica maresca crews are holding onto hope as they search for survivors of an earthquake that hit turkey and syria on monday. as of this morning, more than 21,000 people have been killed. we are learning more about the help from overseas. jobina: turkey, syria and other countries are moving fast as it are struggling to find shelter in below freezing temperatures. federal authorities say they have distributed millions of meals, tense and blankets but they have a hard time reaching everybody who needs help. more than 120,000 emergency workers from 75 different countries are now in turkey. one man said his family members

kumasi: it is 5:45 a.m. donald trump is back on facebook and instagram after a two-year ban. his accounts were suspended following the assault on the capitol. the company suggested a two-year ban originally. there will be guard rails on the account. he has not posted anything on twitter yet. reggie: southwest airlines and says it's system will be upgraded today. executives were called to capitol hill yesterday to answer for the system meltdowns that left millions stranded in december. they admit the system that
