what happened in the moments following thursday morning's explosion that left one person dead. investigators said a narcotics lad was being operated inside the home, and a 53-year-old suspect is in custody. cornell barnard joins us live at the scene with the very latest. reporter: tonight we are seeing new video and getting a new sense of how powerful the explosion which destroyed this house really was, and we talk to two neighbors standing just feet away at the time. [explosion] a home security camera capturing the moment the house on 20 2nd ave exploded thursday morning, the blast strong enough to force open car doors. look closely, that is albert and his neighbor standing across the street. they were nearly knocked down. what did it feel like? >> a bomb. >> my neighbor and i were

showered with glass shards. showered, and i kept looking at myself, it is like -- i am not injured. reporter: you were not cut. police say a woman inside the house was killed, a caregiver made it out alive but suffered major injuries. >> there was a woman as soon as the explosion happened, i could hear this woman screaming. i could not see her. reporter: police say a drug lab was being operated inside the home. 53-year-old darren prize was arrested friday and faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, manufacturing drugs and child endangerment. two children who lived in the house were at school at the time of the blast. >> quiet neighborhood, people are nice and in the middle of the street you have this guy doing something illegally. reporter: karen's home is red

tagged. she lives next door to the house. on the others this yellow house is also condemned. it is where a preschool teacher and her family lived. parents are showing support with the gofundme account. >> she is an amazing, spectacular preschool teacher. everybody is safe, but imagine your home, possessions gone and destroyed. multiple homes in the neighborhood suffered damage in the explosion, broken windows and doors. those repairs will take time and money. a supervisor plans to town hall meeting on wednesday at 5:00 p.m. for neighbors impacted by the explosion and fire. city departments will be there offering information and resources to help so many neighbors move forward. dion: which will take such a long time. thanks. investigators are searching for a hit-and-run driver who they say intentionally struck a woman

in castro valley. the incident happened at 7:30 last night in the parking lot of first presbyterian church. amen driving a nissan sentra may have initially pressed against my 71-year-old woman. they say that led to a shouting match between the two. investigator said the driver turned the car around and purposefully hit the woman, knocking her on the hood of his car before she fell to the ground. she is expected to be ok. moving to developing news now, u.s. military aircraft shot down a high-altitude flying object over lake huron sunday afternoon. this marks the third flight object shut down over north america within the past three days. ellen lopez is in washington with details. reporter: u.s. officials have confirmed to abc news that another high-altitude object was shut down sunday afternoon over lake huron. according to one official it was shut down by u.s. military

aircraft. today's incident comes one day after another unidentified object was shot down on saturday according to officials, this one over the yukon and canada. the object first detected friday night, canadian and u.s. planes scrambling to scope it out. president biden speaking to canadian prime minister justin trudeau giving the green light for a u.s. f-22 fighter jet to take the shot. writing quote, thank you to norad for keeping the watch over north america. >> i spoke with president biden and confirmed together that we will continue to do everything necessary to protect the sovereignty of our shared north american airspace. reporter: these incidents come one day just after fighter jet shut down a similar object over alaska. the military and fbi are working to recover the object. it comes on the heels of the

u.s. shooting down a suspected chinese spy balloon off the coast of south carolina on february 4. >> shooting the balloon down in the atlantic after it flew over military places is disturbing. i am glad the administration is taking it more seriously. we have got a bigger problem than the balloons. reporter: senate majority leader chuck schumer defended the handling of the situation. >> we will piece together this surveillance balloon and know exactly what is going on. reporter: schumer says the u.s. gains intelligence information from surveilling that balloon. dion: rescue workers search through the destruction and devastation in turkey and syria. they are hoping to find more survivors nearly a week after a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake.

the death toll stands at 33,000 lives across the two countries. reporter: nearly a week after the devastating earthquake struck turkey and syria, turkish officials issuing arrest warrants targeting more than 130 people allegedly involved in the construction of collapsed buildings that killed thousands of families as they slept. i hope of finding any more survivors buried beneath the rubble continues to fade. >> naturally the the climate is pretty rough year -- here. and the type of collapsed instructors down on them make it a very difficult. reporter: glimmers of hope as rescuers worked tirelessly to find survivors. in turkey a two-month-old baby pulled from the rubble of a decimated building. nearby a seven-year-old boy rescue,

after the quake hit this 10-year-old girl now freed from beneath the destruction. usaid rescue officials and dogs scour hundreds of sites across the city hoping to find more survivors. u.s. military aircraft and supplies are arriving in turkey to aid the response, but across the border in syria there have been challenges getting aid to the victims. >> people have not got food, medicines, basic hygiene supplies. the water and sanitation is in ruins. this is a community for whom the earthquake was one massive hit, but the grave danger they face now almost affects more people. reporter: for those who survived many are left with nothing. temporary accommodations made out of shipping containers are now being shipped to turkey to provide shelter for some who are now homeless. dion: meantime more assistance is on the way from the bay area to the damaged areas of turkey and syria.

about 300 boxes of supplies were gathered, package, and shipped out today by the turkish american association of northern california. clothes, tents, leaving bags as well as more personal items were included. all of it desperately needed in the earthquake zone. >> baby diapers, baby formulas, feminine products, those are very essential needs, and they are taking from here to istanbul by turkish airlines. dion: it will take 24 hours for those emergency supplies to arrive in turkey, but a constant shipments have been deliberate since right after the quake struck last week. most of it flown for free by turkish airlines. still ahead, the end of an era, a north bay camera shop shutters at stores after 50 years. meteorologist: a sharp warm up since yesterday, but it may not last long. i wil
