solutions, this is abc7 news. >> i was driving down the street. i seen all these cops and i thought something big happened. ama: officers rush to a chevron gas station. what they found was the city's first homicide of the year. i'm ama daetz. dan: a i'm dan ashly one man is dead and another arrested in what police say was some kind of altercation. abc7 news reporter amanda dell castillo has more on the scene tonight >> tonight it's like wow. cops everywhere. crime scene tape. reporter: steve barnes barnes is one of many who came across this expansive scene at stevenson boulevard and paseo padre parkway. around 4:10, they received reports about a fight happening between two men. scanner traffic detailing the

encounter. the mention of r.p. >> first r.p. is trying to stab another male. second r.p. is saying a male was chasing after another male with an object possibly a knife. and one of the males is lying on the ground now. reporter: police found a man on the ground suffering severe injuries. officers provided emergency medical aid however the man died on scene. >> when found out somebody got stabbed, i thought well -- i thought maybe had a gun and was shooting people because i usually don't see this many cops in one area. reporter: an area with a homeless encampment which barnes pointed out located just across the street >> i was thinking maybe something went on over there. >> surrounded by police tape. the department says whether any unhoused residents were involved is still under investigation. fremont police said one suspect was located in the area and arrested. >> i'm around here a lot.
