but a tree limb did not come down on my house. drew: we had the wind this morning continuing. then we are tracking showers coming in and then cold temperatures. wind right now is pretty active from half moon bay to oakland, gusting at 35 miles per hour. the bay shoreline getting the brunt of it at this hour. sutro tower is jumping around with the wind. thankfully, the gusts we had yesterday around 60 miles per hour, we are through with them. today we are gusting around 20 to 40 miles per hour. temperatures in the upper 40's, low 50's. this afternoon we have a chance for isolated showers, even hail is possible. the windows stays pretty active throughout the day. even tomorrow we will see gusty conditions. not only tracking rain showers but we also have snow to talk about.

a winter weather advisory in effect or the santa cruz mountains, santa clara county, even portions of sonoma county. we could see one to three inches of snow and will likely see have your snow by the end of the week. we will talk about that coming up. reggie: thank you. severe weather being fell from coast-to-coast, and it's impacting travel. almost 700 flights already canceled today. the number of cancellations and delays is only expected to increase through tomorrow because of a winter storm that is bringing wind to the west and rain and snow to the east. 150 million americans are feeling the impact. here in the bay area, strong wind is leaving many people in the dark. you are looking at pg&e's map showing the current outages. right now currently 6000 customers are without power in the bay area. the most is on the peninsula.

crews have been working throughout the night to restore power. kumasi: one of the biggest areas without power this morning is the peninsula. there was also a lot of damage during the wind storm yesterday. lena howland is in redwood city where there is a big area that is in the dark. lena:. we are in redwood city where the power has been completely knocked out to the shopping center behind me, including to this starbucks which would typically be getting ready to open up their doors. clearly, that's not happening anytime soon without power. they are just one of 44 thousand customers without power on the peninsula alone this morning. the gusty wind also causing some serious damage in the boulder creek area of santa cruz county. fire officials telling abc news, a redwood came down on top of a home on bobcat lane.

a piece of the tree trapped a one-year-old inside. crews were able to safely rescue the child and transport them to the hospital. fire officials tell us the infant is critically injured but still conscious and breathing. >> we had crews on top of the roof and inside the living room where they were ultimately cutting away the weight, removing that off of the patient, rendering aid as quickly as they could to control the situation. lena: the damage does not end there. look at this video from the emerald hills area. yesterday evening, the wind ripped a roof completely off a home on hillcrest way. the roof was in the middle-of-the-road way when san mateo fire officials responded to the scene. luckily, no injuries were reported from that. back here live on the peninsula, according to our last check on

the pg&e outage map, power should have been restored to this area around 2:00 this morning, but that is not the case, as we are still in the dark. reggie: that is rough. thank you. a close call in western sonoma county where a larger redwood came tumbling down last night, splitting a home and have, just barely missing the person inside. >> he was cooking, turned around and got some chicken out of the freezer, and just missed him. he is so lucky. reggie: wow. that home on montgomery road now red tagged by inspectors because of the damage. kumasi: people in the south they have a lot to clean up this morning. fallen trees took out power lines, causing widespread outages. one woman we spoke with said she has lived in san jose for almost 20 years and has not seen trees come down with the wind.

the montgomery elementary school district canceled classes because yesterday's high wind knocked out power. reggie: the state senate will hold its hearing on high gas prices, months after governor newsom sugge penalty on oil companies. it sets a caps on on oil refinery profits. if they exceed those coming the extra funds would be passed on to consumers. today's hearing is informational only so lawmakers will not be voting on this. here's a look at current prices. drivers in san francisco are paying the most at $4.85. in oakland and san jose, the average is $4.73. prices have soared nearly $.30 in the past month. kumasi: news out of europe where president biden is wrapping up his trip to poland and ukraine. the president will be meeting with nato leaders today. we are learning that russia tested and entered continental

ballistic missile during resident biden strip. jobina: russia carried out the test on monday around the same time president biden was in ukraine. the test failed. russia did provide advanced notice of the test. the missile was an icb travel farther and faster than those previously designed with the potential to reach the u.s. president putin did not mention the missile in his speech on tuesday where he blamed the u.s. for his ongoing attack on ukraine. this came before president biden across the world from poland, where he found the u.s. and its allies would not waver. president biden: ukraine will never be a victory for russia. the u.s. together with allies and partners will continue to have ukraine's back as it defends itself. jobina: mr. biden is meeting with nato leaders today before returning to washington. he will assure allies that nato is stronger than before russia's

a marathon session for the san ramon valley unified school for. parents and community members voice their opinions about the process to ban books from school libraries. the topic was up for discussion because of three books that some say contain sexually explicit content. one is meant to serve as a resource for kids on gender identity. some parents want the books removed, but are the same banning them discriminates against the lgbtq community. >> if we legislate which stories are told and not, we rob students of the opportunities. we send a message to our students that the lived experiences of the lgbtq+ people do not matter. >> all children need basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and not a bias of sexual approaches, particularly the pornography is what upsets me. kumasi: there was no about last

looking up. in that area, trees did fall down. drew: a lot of people lost our. it will be a wild couple of days in california. in the l.a., they issued a blizzard warning for the first time in decades. believe it or not, they will be expecting five feet of snow in the mountains of l.a. county. the wind will continue through the afternoon. live look from sutro tower. today, we have co gusty wind. frost warnings going into effect. the second round is what we want to focus on. thursday into friday brings heavier rain and low snow levels. right now, the wind is still an issue with advisories still in effect. today is a level 1 on the storm impact scale. the best chance for a shower is in the afternoon, close to the coast line, perhaps in the hills of the east bay.

unfortunately, they are not the only ones. power has been wiped out to more than 44,000 customers across the peninsula this morning. the gusty wind also causing a massive redwood tree to fall on a home on bobcat lane in the boulder creek area, trapping a one-year-old infant inside. crews were able to safely rescue the child and transported to the hospital, but officials say the infant is in critical condition but still breathing. the high wind also toppled the street in redwood city, taking down a fence and nearby powerline, before landing on top of a car. also in redwood city, treat causing substantial damage after it fell into this house. and take a look at this video coming in from the hills above the city, where the wind ripped a roof completely off of a home

on hillcrest way. the roof was and in the roadway when crews responded to the scene. luckily, no injuries were reported. according to our last check on the pg&e outage map, this area was supposed to have power restored by 2:00 this morning. three and a half hours later, we still see no signs of power coming back on anytime soon. lena howland, abc 7 news. kumasi: the wind made for a rough day for cars yesterday in san francisco. a tree crutch in this car. crews had to bring in a forklift to clean that up. another crash landing on this corvette in front of clay and front street's. this is where i was walking. a direct hit for this car.

this is where i was walking. this man concerned right along this block. anyway, the light pole fell yesterday, shattering the back window. reggie: i know it was a rough commute for some of you. thankfully now all lanes of the bay bridge were open, but strong wind sent a large eucalyptus tree onto the roads and 80 just before the year but when a tunnel. it caused major backups. no one was hurt but two cars were damaged. chp says the tree came down on one car and a second car crashed into the tree which led to even more traffic. caltrans crews used chain saws cut up the tree and hauled it away. they got the debris out of the way but not until 10:00 last night. kumasi: the wind was so bad

it is unclear where his team reviewed the footage. abc news reports kevin mccarthy granted his team access to the videos. carlsen has repeatedly spread conspiracy theories about january 6. he claims the footage appears to show contradictions. this comes after a court filing revealed private text messages from fox news personalities. the text including carlsen showed they doubted allegations of voter fraud after the election even though many continue to report it. carlsen says his findings will be made public soon. abc news has reached out to mccarthy about the claims. his office has yet to respond. kumasi: oral arguments underway at the supreme court in a case that could reshape the internet. it centers around the killing of an american college student in paris during the terror attacks in 2015. yesterday, the parents argued

kumasi: this morning, a desperate search and rescue operation happening in turkey after another large earthquake hit the country this week. six people are confirmed dead from the latest one and dozens of others are injured. some of the buildings that survive the initial earthquake have now collapsed. here in california returned. >>

we rebuild a new elevator system using ropes and overhead anchors. reggie: here is the bride as she had to climb a narrow set of stairs in her wedding dress to get out. when we say stairs, we mean a ladder. that is a ladder. [laughter] it took two and half hours to get to safety. they thanked the firefighters for their quick response. that is a unique wedding story. also, they are cute. kumasi: i want to see the whole wedding now. where do they go for the honeymoon? where are they living? reggie: do they live in an elevator building? is it a walk-up? kumasi: it is national margarita day. that is every day, but this is one worth celebrating.
