>> this is abc7news. >> sitting poolside with the peaceful sight of snow. the santa cruz valley is getting hit with good snowfall. just take a look at these scenes coming in tonight. it is a sign of what the rest of the bay area could see in the days to come. ama: thank you -- dan: thank you for joining us. it may not be as much as chicago or minnesota, but seeing snow in lower elevations of the bay area is still a big deal. ama: let's check out this insight with her meteorologist. just imagine, parts of the east bay hills, even twin peaks in san francisco seeing snow in the coming days. dan: it is all within the realm of possibility. let's bring in sandhya patel. sandhya: we are already seeing the wintry mix tonight. as we go into closer live doppler 7, you will notice where we are seeing snow showers, right around saw road across

highway nine. skyline boulevard not out of the question. we have already seen snow over mount hamilton. you can see it on live doppler 7. this is interesting, starting to see snow mixing in near dublin boulevard, dublin canyon road area. it is switching over, so it is cold enough. right now it is a light level one storm on our exclusive impact scale through tomorrow morning, even into the early afternoon. then it becomes a 2 going into friday morning. we have an advisory for the santa cruz mountains, up to two inches between 1500 and 2000 feet. total snow accumulation of three to 12 inches above 1500, between 1500 and 2500 feet. we are talking the possibility of a few flurries, even down to sea level. hour-by-hour, right around the hills in kernville, lakeport seeing some snow.

overnight, east of livermore in the hills, and also the santa cruz mountains, looking at boulder creek area, looking at the possibility of a wintry mix. the other thing we are tracking is a chill, close to freezing already in some places. i will be back with a closer look at all the warnings coming up. ama: thank you. we got a good taste of the wintry weather already today. hard to believe this kind of winter in california. you are sending us tons of what you saw, from haley and snow around the bay area. j.r. stone as a look at it all. j.r.: michelle's car after going to grocery outlet bargain market in hayward. >> there was so much noise. you could hear the hail. it was super loud. people were running around in the parking lot. j.r.: parts of the bay hit hard with hail wednesday. this viewer take -- this video

taken by a viewer in santa rosa. it almost looked like snow along the landscape. >> was very unexpected. it just came through. but that is why i love the bay area. j.r.: a bay area and just beyond that also saw snow wednesday in the santa cruz mountains. this is when it looked like along highway 17. >> we have had the craziest weather. i have never seen anything like it. j.r.: kenzie's husband witnessed this snow in boulder creek. while weather? maybe. >> perhaps every five years we will see snow along the santa cruz mountains. it melts away pretty quickly. j.r.: what is out of the ordinary are the extremes, according to a professor from san jose state university. >> the models are unequivocal in saying that unusual weather is

becoming more usual, more common. we should not be surprised by anything. j.r.: are you excited there is snow, or is it more concerning in light of the other extremes we have had? >> i am excited. ask me that tomorrow when i have to drive. the roads are slick. j.r.: as to where your best chance of seeing snow on the hillside or mountains is? >> friday morning would be a good time to rush outside in your jammies and take a look see at what the hillsides look like. dan: professor bridger made the point that much of the west coast is dealing with this system. as i was gathering video for this story, i came across snow in vegas and people bundled up in arizona. professor believes climate change is to blame for these extremes we keep seeing during our seasons. j.r. stone, abc7news. ama: jammies and a coat. thank you, jr.

if you are wondering if it is snowing in lake tahoe, you bet. here is a live look from's africa -- from zephyr cove. earlier today, snow was blowing in the truckee area along state route 267, the road that takes you into north lake tahoe. snow chains are required on highways 50 and 80 for non-four-wheel-drive vehicles in the area. dan: power is slowly starting to come back for pg&e customers, but tens of thousands are still in the dark tonight. here is a live look at the current outage map, about 25,000 without power right now. the majority of homes and businesses have the power wiped by wednesday's winds. the peninsula is a hotspot. at one point, pg&e says one in three customers did not have electricity. part of the challenge for cruises dealing with all the hazards they might encounter. >> we have a lot of downed trees. these winds were very powerful.

we have to get in first, remove the trees, make the area safe, and then we can start the actual works. dan: pg&e is advising people to be prepared for more outages. that means checking flashlights to make sure the batteries are good, and charging your devices. ama: these storms are also having an impact on local businesses. tim johns is looking at the expected drop off in customers and hit to their bottom lines. 1reporter: to sit on the bay area, many local restaurants are busy preparing. >> we only have 70 heat lamps. reporter: ro is the manager of tony's pizza in north beach. she says business at the restaurant is almost always impacted when big storms move in. >> it is so cold and windy. it does affect us a bit. no one wants to sit out. reporter: she says given the restaurant's smaller inside, they often depend on outdoor

seating, a difficult task. despite the chilly weather, there were some brave enough to face the cold. >> i am all right with it. it is not that cold. we are outside enjoying a nice meal, so must not be too bad. reporter: the drop in temperatures is a sharp contrast to just a couple days ago. nearby at mario's café, staff told us they could not keep up with the demand over holiday weekend, when it was almost 70 degrees. >> the past week has been really busy. a lot of to go orders and all that stuff. reporter: the golden gate restaurant association says this is not the first time this year that the weather has hit local eateries. they believe the heavy rains in early january were even worse. >> if you are looking at tomorrow's forecast and you know you want to stay home, please call your restaurant or cancel online so they can fill your seat with someone else. reporter: for the next few days, and a lot of places will be relying on delivery orders, hoping to make up lost revenue any way they can. >> that helps us a lot.

recent viral attacks on street vendors in san jose. shock's motive in the community to get involved with a cookout of sorts. amanda del castillo is tracking what to expect. a morning, you may find one of the videos hard to watch. amanda: following two separate attacks on street vendors, activists are mobilizing to bring a san jose street vendor buyout to the city on sunday. >> during these times street vendor, it is traumatic. i think they deserve a couple days off. they do not have paid leave or anything. it is part of the process. amanda: it is a process he found successful, with crowds coming out for a san diego vendor who was harassed by a group of college students. in san jose, video shows carlos sanchez being taunted and threatened by a man with a baseball bat.

this video was captured of a vendor being brutally attacked from behind and knocked unconscious outside the sap center. >> there are a lot of people there who support, even with some money amanda: that food truck owner will serve the visitors at the site where sanchez was attacked along old bayshore highway in san jose beginning sunday at 1:00 p.m. until they sell out. >> you can try their food. there is going to be music. you can tip the vendors, get to know them, and have a celebration for them. amanda: supporting two men whose traumatic experiences were caught on camera and quickly went viral. the shock still settling in for many, including a man who food on for merchant training program -- a woman who runs a food entrepreneur merchant

foothill road just south of the dublin area and southwest of their.. san francisco had a high temperature of 48 .. previoustemperature was 49 in 1880. it was a record low max temperature. as we widen the picture here, in the sierra nevada we are seeing snow falling. it is heavy in the tahoe area, and they are chaining up on major roads. we do have a winter storm warning until 4:00 a.m. saturday. one to three feet between 1500 and 3000 feet with gusty winds, difficult to impossible to travel. it is a wintry scene from our zephyr cove camera right now. it is nice to see the snow. they are going to be seeing more in the coming days. temperatures are definitely plunging, close to freezing in santa rosa. 38 in livermore. as we check out the freeze warnings out for the inland areas beginning at midnight until 9:00 a.m., and the frost

advisories for the coast and bay shoreline, one thing you will want to keep in mind is temperatures will be in the low to mid 30's for many areas, but some isolated spots in the 20's, so protect plants and pipes if you have not already taken precautions. 32 in livermore, vallejo, 31 in napa. even cold along the bay with a mix of spotty showers and snow showers. that makes continues. winds will pick up tomorrow afternoon. highs will be in the 40's and 50's, 39 and lakeport. -- at lakeport. spotty precip and frigid in the morning. widespread rain and low snow level between tomorrow night and friday morning, and we are looking at a brief break on saturday. this is a live level 1 through the morning. spotty showers, breezy conditions, and an isolated thunder chance is possible. snow over the hills between 1500 and 2000 feet. it becomes level two tomorrow night into friday morning, a moderate storm with rain, brief

downpours. the snow level down to 500 feet. i would not be surprised if you see a flurry or two even at lower elevations than that. down to sea level,. a thunder chance and gusty winds. 6:00 a.m. still spotty in nature with snow showers. by 10:00 tomorrow night, the rain and snowfall intensity begins to pick up. coverage coming into friday morning. grizzly peak, the hills around napa, calistoga area, east of livermore, you will likely see snow showers. friday night, it winds down. rainfall totals generally a half inch to an inch. santa cruz mountains could pick up more than that. until 4:00 p.m. friday, we have a wind advisory for these areas. gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour could topple trees and cause damage. the accuweather 7-day forecast is a 1 tomorrow morning and most of the day. tomorrow night into friday, it
