>> we begin with sandhya patel on the very latest on the weather. >> right now i will show you where we are seeing the winter weather. let's go down towards the santa cruz mountains. as we head towards the san mateo county area, both of -- boulder creek reporting some snow, the snow has fallen as low as 500 feet. we looked right around la honda, it is rain but switching over across i-35 to snow. palo alto reporting some snow believe it or not, and this is really continuing even up to the north as we look towards about st. helena radar sites, the hills around calistoga getting snow and we are looking at point arena to hopwood area, in between where the hills are, there. we see some snow showers right around fischbach road. so don't be surprised if you do encounter some snow down in the valley floor. it is a lot. a light storm on our scale

through the evening, which becomes a two, immoderate strength storm as we head into night. hour-by-hour, 830 tonight, the intensity of the rainfall picks up. the snowfall and the coverage will increase as well. going into early tomorrow morning you see a thunder -- photos from her too, not at the question. a winter advisory up for the santa cruz mountains, east eastern santa clara hills after two inches expected. that is up until 7:00. then it becomes a winter storm warning. 3-12 inches of snow expected over our highest peaks. and windy conditions. i will be back with a closer look at the forecast and let you know how long this wintry weather last. -- lasts. lane's back open on highway one between march ball road and little road. pg&e crews were removing a downed tree and replace a wire. the tree had a wire that process right over the highway, and traffic is now moving along just

before the thick of the evening commute now getting underway. suzanne phan is there with the impact power outages are having. >> good both sides of highway 1 one along the section that open again after a temporary two hour closure. meanwhile, thousands of pgd customers are still in the dark. pockets of me palo alto are without power, her and it is hurting a lot of families. private homes, and businesses as well, it has been affecting everybody. and i'm wondering why. >> and east palo alto we work -- spotted crews working hard working peers. there are streets were traffic lights are not working. at this stein's school for the arts, there are many students not in class because of the power outage. five schools and east palo alto are without power.

at this apartment complex, nick hunt is trying to make the best of a bad situation. >> with the frost advisories and anything for the past two days, it has been not great. >>'s power has been out since tuesday. >> a lot of my stuff is going bad. >> more power outages in menlo park. at least 4000 customers have been without power. >> i live close to downtown menlo park, and i know it extended to down santa cruz avenue towards grocery stores like trader joe's. >> this woman says that she has power off and on, but there are a lot of families dealing with the cold with no heat, no electricity. >> are people on partridge in menlo park i was told, who have been out for two or three days with no power. that is a low cost building that is like a section eight building where there are people with disabilities. >> pgd says it tree toppled over

and damage the power line. to make those emergency repairs, traffic had to be stopped along highway 11 between marsh road and willow road in menlo park. this afternoon, pgd offer this update. -- offer this update. >> this is our highest priority. the extent of damage has beyond -- and beyond anything we have seen in decades. >> again, pgd tells us that for the customers in san mateo county that has been without power since tuesday, they can expect their power to be restored by 10:00. that is the latest. suzanne phan. >> state senator criticizing pg&e for poor communication about the outage. he says being out -- without power for this long is unacceptable. >> this ought to be unacceptable for almost that california, the largest economy in the world, and in our own country can have

outages for this long. >> backer is calling on pg&e to modernize its infrastructure to avoid problems like this. here is a live look at the power outage map. we received new totals from the utility. there are 20 1000, 400 customers without -- tournament thousa 400 customers without power worldwide. -- 21,004 hundred customers without power statewide. >> and snow is taking over the south bay, and you can see a dusting of snow on the trees along highway 15. here on abc7news, are reported spent the day of the santa cruz mountains with more on this snowy day. >> so we are at the summit on highway 17, a lower elevation where we were able to get a stronger signal. a lot of the snow that was here has been washed away from some rain that came through earlier.

the higher elevations of the santa cruz mountains but was mostly gone by midday in lower areas. aste any time preparing for power outages.lold some they had already endured for a short time in the book up in the morning. >> white everywhere, taking pictures, and for the short time enjoying it. although, i did not have any power, i was on generator power on the whole, for the whole time. >> crews worked to roads and snow brought disruptions to other communities. catfished -- travelers were blocked and one person hit a guardrail. most locals agree that it has been eight treat to have this view. >> beats trying to drive up to the sierras. >> we will continue to see how the residents feel come tomorrow, more snow is expected here in this area.

boulder creek injured a toddler ended up in the hospital. and tonight the parents of little milo smith are calling his recovery in miracle. dustin dorsey spoke with milo's parents today, as they expressed their gratitude for their son's life. >> and embrace between partners, feelings of love and relief for parents zachary and catherine smith. after a harrowing 48 hours. now they can be thing for for their two-year-old son milo after he survived by be paid by a more than 100 foot tall tree that fell through their home. >> the most important thing to worry about is whether he is ok. that was not a guarantee. to get that guarantee is really amazing. >> the much-needed positive news received from doctors. deite his bropelvis, this younge ok. it should miracle, considering the events that haunt his mother catherine. >> i saw the ceiling had

look at some of the impressive sites from sky 7 today. >> it begins in hayward, heading east towards mission peak, overlooking fremont. and on the sales, just a dusting of snow. hikers still able to summon the peak. -- so much of the peak. they captured a ukrainian flag standing nearly one year to the date marking the beginning of the war. now heading southeast towards henrico state park, the higher elevation bringing with it the bigger dumps of snow. trees nearly disappearing under the fresh white powder. ana winter storm warning last -- blasting until 11:00 tomorrow morning. much more snow is expected at elevations above 1500 and 2003. sky 7 eventually turning, getting a look at the south by before heading north in hopes of capturing images of a snow-covered mount hamilton.

snow coverage increasing. hail and thunderstorms are certainly possible. we type this out for you. the coverage across the region will continue to increase as we head towards 9:00 p.m., you notice there is a mix of rain, snow, maybe even a pop of thunder not out of the question at 1:00 a.m.. it :00 tomorrow morning you are looking at that wintry mix,il ti:0m. lsnow over the higher terrain certainly possible down to the valley floor and of the northern part of our viewing area not out of the question. those showers will continue to move around and then we could see more showers trailing on saturday. it does not happen very often, but i would not completely rule out the possibility of a few flurries down to sea level. rainfall estimates, about one third of an inch to just over an inch, isolated locations could pick up more than that. winter storm warning for the cma, not only very windy, but with the heavy snow at low elevations, difficult to impossible travel, i would hold
