friends have gathered here setting up this memorial, frustrated with the loss of a young man but frustrated that this could happen at a school. no one would talk to the camera, but judging by the size of the crowd you can see the impact. the police chief would not give the names of the three students but he did confirm two students were stabbed, one fatally. these three students have also had problems onam what we know so far, around 11:00 a.m. there was a fight in one of the classrooms. two juniors entered a room and got into a fight with a freshman student who was in that class. teachers were able to break up the fight but moments later there -- they started fighting again. in the freshman pulled out a knife with a four inch play. he stepped one student three times in the upper body, a second student in the head. both of those students were taken to the hospital, the student step in the upper body died at the hospital.

the freshman student fled the campus, but was tracked down by police a short while later. he was hiding several blocks away in the creek bed. >> we got witnesses from saint eugene's cathedral, which reported that they had seen a student or a young man hiding in the creek behind the saint eugene's cathedral campus, our officers scary -- scabbard that area and were able to locate the juvenile hiding there who was lying on his stomach tried to conceal himself. officers slowed down, use restraint, there was no force. they were able to take the young man into custody. >> during a press conference held by the police chief, a handful of students and parents complained that not enough is being done to handle escalated problems at the school. one student says that the students had been fighting for weeks, and that little was done. >> a student had to call 911. no one else did. >> i get that. >> i can't. this school didn't do anything.
