thousands of employees and small business owners may be compromised. >> we have known about this hack for nearly a month now, but tonight, we are getting new insight into just how bad the implications may be. the personal and financial account information of thousands of city workers and small business owners compromised and potentially leaked onto the dark web. the group to hide it all has done this many times before and is known internationally. the concern have access to the social security numbers -- >> credit card numbers, whatever. my understanding is information with a business or someone that went to do business with the city they be in jeopardy. >> a ransomware attack that has been crippling oakland city systems for nearly the past month has gone from bad to

worse. once he councilmember says the group play ransomware claimed responsibility for the attack and is known internationally for attacking government organizations and hotel chains. for weeks, the average has been impacting his ability to do his job. >> i cannot use are emailing me and texting me, i tried to reach you but cannot reach you. stephanie: he says the city has not paid the $9 million ransom, and the hackers reportedly reached -- leaked its first batch of stolen data because of that. >> i checked these daily now. stephanie: hours after he received notice his social security number, credit card, and bank information could be compromised and he should regularly check for alerts for the next 12 to 24 months. the mayor's office was

unavailable for an interview but said in a statement, we are aware an unauthorized party has released some information rick -- information acquired from our network. >> we information that has been taken over is related to not only the employees but also the businesses. >> it is affecting our lives, our livelihood. stephanie: the owner of this restaurant nestled in fruitvale bart station. she's one of thousands of small business owners who tried to pay her taxes on the city's website by march 1 but could not. for weeks, she and her daughter saw this. >> they had that big red warning sign saying pretty much the city is down right now and they could not do anything. >> it is putting our business bills on hold. stephanie: now that are wary shifted from bills to bank account information potentially

leaked on the dark web. quicksand of changing your passwords, my bank information. >> i asked councilmember gile councilmember gallo if the city did not have proper protections in place, and he says it appears that's what happened. the mayor says they are actively notifying people whose personal information was involved in this leak today. a moment ago, the mayor told us in a statement, moving forward, we will focus on strengthening the security of our information technology systems. certainly a lot more questions to be answered here. ama: thank you so much. students at montgomery santa rosa high school walked out of class today, demanding more security after two students were stabbed, one killed. >> there was anger today students tried to process how

two fellow classmates could have been stabbed at montgomery high school. during today's assembly on campus, students said the 15-year-old suspect had been involved in other fights before at the school. students were joined by some parents. >> it took a death for us realize that our school is suffering and we are screaming for help. we need their help. >> suspect of slashing the tires of another students car before an altercation. the second student was taken to the hospital. >> this week, to focus on that safety, what we have done is have more adults on campus. we have adults that are administrators from here at center rota city schools district office, but also we have been given added support from the sonoma county physical

education. >> jaden did not deserve to die, and i blame the whole administration. i don't care where you guys are. i blame all of you. >> students wanted to draw attention to the rising concerns for their safety. >> pretty much they are not safe because so many things happen, and it is so unpredictable that you just never know. >> i just want to protect my daughter and my kids and make sure they have a safe life. no kids should die before their parents. >> jaden's mom and stepfather were at today's walkout wearing a picture of -- wearing sweatshirts with a picture of their son. the 15-year-old was in court today, charged with one count of voluntary manslaughter and one count of bringing a knife onto school grounds. both are felony charges. he will not be charged as an adult. a senate bill passed that's 2018 does not allow anyone 15 or younger to be charged in

california as an adult. regardless of the offense. county coroner's office identified the woman killed by a all in tree -- a fallen tree while hiking with her son's boy scout troop. this happened in the hills above cupertino. she died at the scene despite efforts to save her. reports say the woman was hiking with her 17-year-old son. no one else was injured. >> there are scattered showers across the bay area this evening. this is a live look. the bigger concern is the storm arriving later this week. spencer: you're certainly right about that. just to show you how scattered the current showers are, they will not have much of an impact on the evening commute, so this

storm still ranks a one on the storm impact scale. as you can see, it will sweep on through and we will start the day tomorrow with pretty calm weather, but the bigger concern is the approaching storm toward the end of the week that's going to drop down onto the northwest and tap into this plume of moisture, this atmospheric river, and bring us some really substantial rainfall. it will be a warmer storm. at the same time that it produces significant rain, it will also produce melting of snow in the mountains, so that means increased confidence in heavy rain and the possibility of localized flooding. ama: t dan: yosemite national park remains closed and inaccessible after more we can snow fell. leslie brinkley connected with a store owner for some perspective on how treacherous the conditions are and what they are worried about next. >> there's no where to put the

snow anymore. that's one of the problems. there it goes. dig out day! leslie: a blazing blue sky is just what those stuck inside yosemite national park needed. the park has been closed since february 25. just south of the yosemite valley, the snow is overwhelming, as much as 15 feet deep in some places. >> when it comes down fast and furious is one thing, but this one has just been persistent for a long time. a long snow every day for a lot of days. >> the owner of the pinetree market, the only game in town for those isolated on still clogged streets. >> people walking around, everyone has spikes on their shoes. someone even skied up to the market the other day. >> schools are closed, roads are closed, and supplies are running short. >> a lot of the side roads, we have not been able to keep up with the plowing to make them

accessible to propane, and then, even if they get to your house, then they've got to wade through chest-deep snow, shovel out the tank to hook up and refill. leslie: these are webcam views of iconic places in the park with now raging waterfalls. this time of year, tourists usually flocked to yosemite for a glimpse of the fire fall at el capitan, but no visitors allowed until park officials can clear roads and rooftops. one company that rents cabins in yosemite says they are hearing the park might reopen later this week. they are hoping to open rentals by the weekend, but there's more trouble brewing. >> i'm hearing up to six inches of rain between thursday, friday, saturday kind of thing, and then all this snow, especially at this elevation, you know, at 4000 feet, it is going to be a warmer rain, and all this snow is going to end up in the river real quick.

leslie: runoff and flooding from local creeks and the merced river is a looming possibility. ama: this video from soda springs. you can see a resident driving down a recently plowed driveway between two towering walls of snow to get to their property. the woman who took this video says the driveway is being maintained by a 90-year-old local handyman while the residents are out of town. dan: the treacherous this weekend. this video was taken on ski run boulevard in south lake tahoe. you can see along with other cars, there were also pedestrians in the area who were walking on the street because the sidewalks were not plowed. we are glad to say no one was injured, but awfully dicey. ama: after the break, the public

ama: two years ago, multiple community safety efforts were launched in oakland's chinatown after multiple violent crimes in the area. now it appears those efforts may have paid off. those spearheading the effort feel it is a strategy that could work in other parts of the city. >> for the m kitchen, getting burglarized three times was frustrating,

especially when it feels like nothing is being done about the crime. the rock and mineral shop next door was burglarized by what appeared to be a number of individuals, one wielding a gun. the loss? >> almost $100,000. >> stats from abc neighborhood safety tracker show crimes are down compared to the three have in your average. when it comes to robberies, the statistics are essentially flat, so why do the numbers not seem to match reality? small business owners believe the crimes are not being reported because victims don't have hope they will be solved. however, one commu stopped reporting and is now seeing progress. >> we are lucky enough to have a lot of volunteers to help patrol our community. >> over the weekend, chinatown' volunteer patrol group celebrated two years in service. merchants started -- merchants

dan: residents and visitors to half moon bay are being warned to be on the lookout for a bold mountain lion. the big count has been looking around homes and popular dog walking trails in broad daylight. people living along railroad avenue have been catching glimpses of this big cat right on their doorsteps. the first sighting was friday. >> we have the doggy door closed, trying to keep the kiddo inside and not have him play in the front yard because he spent -- he or she, i'm not sure -- has been hanging around when the sun is out, which is a little concerning. dan: sheriffs deputies are also wanting people knew the coast side trail to poplar beach to be careful. a couple of weeks ago, a mountain lion attacked a boy

near half moon bay. his is not clear if it is the same lion. ama: let's check on our weather because we have some weather coming our way. dan: we do. another one of these atmospheric rivers, right? spencer: that's true. the storm is going to tap into that moisture to bring us some pretty substantial flooding later in the week. we are looking at a storm that is weakening. we've got little pockets of showers and some isolated downpours, but there's not a lot left to the system. we also ex scattered showers, maybe some isolated hail. snow levels down to about teen hundred feet, but there's not a lot of moisture left for the systems to tap into. going into the later evening hours, 9:00 or so, we will still see some passing showers, maybe some high elevation snow, and things calm down overnight. tomorrow, we will have a few, even more widely isolated showers, and that will be about it.

we see clouds increasing. palo alto, san jose, santa clara, and half moon bay. looking back toward the city, clouds are getting lower and darker and thicker in the sky. 51 degrees in santa rosa right now. 50 in napa -- 47, actually, in napa. that is our cool spot. one more live view from our rooftop camera. you can see dark clouds pushing out over the bay. scattered showers, snow in the hills through midweek. atmospheric river takes aim at us late in the week, late thursday into saturday. level two storm with the possibility of localized flooding. overnight, we will see low temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 30's. highs tomorrow, low to mid 50's for the most part. looking at the graphic for this atmospheric river, you can see that moisture flow is increasing. warmer air is coming in, so this storm is going to produce rainfall but it will melt a lot of snow.

this will tap into that moisture and produce at times heavy rainfall. we have increasing confidence in a heavy rain. the bay area will receive all rain, no snow from this storm, as i mentioned. it will not be a cold snow, but temperatures will be higher and localized flooding is likely because of the amount of rain we expect from the storm. wednesday and thursday are days that will bring us some periods of sunshine but also some showers lingering wednesday morning and light rain developing late thursday. on friday and saturday, we have that level two storm with warmer air, and sunday, looks like showers as well with more rain monday. we got some active weather coming our way. dan: the red carpet is going to be wet. ama: after the break, an update on 49ers

ama: quarterback brock purdy is scheduled to keep -- scheduled to have surgery on his elbow this friday. it had been delayed because of ongoing inflammation. recovery time should be about six months, which is around the start of the regular season. dan: fingers crossed. lionel richie is back with a new tour and bringing some legendary guests with him to the bay area. he announced the sing a song all night long tour alongside one of the best-selling bands of all-time, earth, wind and fire.
