moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7 news. >> here we go again, a powerful storm slams the bay area bringing more flooding. dan: and we're seeing a lot of close calls including a tree nearly crushing two people inside this tesla. >> in the live doppler 7. green has been a theme all night long. i'm amia daetz. dan: an manda dell castillo is in san jose. but we're going to start with meteorologist sandhya patel keeping an eye on the storm for us as i moves through. sandhya? sandhya: it has been an intense storm being fed by an atmospheric river. i want to show you live doppler 7 because we are keeping an eye on on what is appearing right now, this line of thunderstorms. we're going to see a lot more lightening strikes. the intensity of the rain has just barely come down.

but don't let your guards down because as those thunderstorms develop, you're going to see those downpours again. we're seeing steady, light to moderate rain. around the north bay, santa rosa. you will notice street level radar. sonoma avenue. it's been a steady stream of moisture in the santa cruz mountains as they're getting rain around the south bay. light rain around the san francisco peninsula. i do want to show you the flood advisory that is are up for sonoma county, solano county. we will continue to see the flooding potential. it's a strong storm on you are impact scale. atmospheric river is feeding this tomorrow. intensity picks up at 2:00 a.m. then in the southern portion of our viewing area as the commute

begins it will be feeding through that area. flood watch is in effect until sunday morning. so flooding is a big concern still. those winds are gusting over 50 miles an hour. you will notice at the lower elevations up to 43 miles an hour. gusts to 55. means more down trees and power outages. numerous reports. 56 reports of wind and storm damage. rain related damage. i'll be back with a look at how long this atmospheric river going to last and how much rain we've gotten plus, how much more we're getting. >> a huge tree landed on a tesla nearly crushing the two people inside. this happens just before 7:00 p.m. near skyline avenue. the c.h.p. says one of the people inside the car did suffer a leg injury and was take on the the hospital. the other person was not hurry. >> the north bay is getting

drenched again. check out this downpour. we're getting reports of flooding. and cars getting stuck in the water. unser joins us live. unser: the rain has started to pick up. still not that heavy downpour that we saw earlier in the evening. behind me is the expressway. it's closed because of flooding. another concern for fire officials is the saturated soil. >> in the north bay, flood signs, flooded roads, stuck cars that's what's keeping it pretty busy. >> for us with how saturated our soils are, we're concerned with what damage could potentially be done. >> division chief, paul lowenthal is with the santa rosa fire dougg.. he says there haven't been much

down trees. but there have been flooded streets. but adds that it's always a big concern. >> we still are at risk with our glass fire burn scar from 2020 has not regrown. so the water tends to come off that hill a lot more rapidly than it does most of our hillsides. that water quickly fills up the santa rosa creek. and that's what's keeping our street crews very busy, dealing with a lot of backup. they can't flow. and are resulting in a lot of flooded out roadways. >> two cars got stuck that require passengers to be rescued. no one was injured. it's another example, the problem due to flooding. trevor mccall delivers auto parts. he had to deal with the heavy rain on the free throws. and he'll be back out again on friday. >> we have some of our routes up north that have been canceled because of snow or downed threes. i have to go to east bay or

possibility that maybe highway 101 could flood. we're hopeful that it won't. but it's better to be prepared. >> farther north -- san jose mayor matt may hahn joined crews in clearing gutters and storm drains. they could bring down threes, power lines and more. damage we've seen over the last few months. >> i know this is crazy weather. but i've been here all my life. this is the first time we experienced something hike this. so -- but hey, that's the way it goes. >> but in preparation, the governor declared a state of emergency for 21 additional counties including santa claraa county. ready to act and work with other agencies in response to the storms. >> we're in constant communication around the -- anything that i just mentioned. but the storms, floods,
