commute for you, live cameras are on the bay area to show you. sue is tracking a number of issues on the road. reggie: we are looking at all of it. thanks for joining us. jobina: how's it going? drew: it's good. some sponsor drying out but in some places we see heavy rain. live doppler 7 is pretty quiet but the east bay is seeing heavier showers from walmart -- from walnut street to any, like to heavy rain falling right now. scattered showers in the south bay, sunnyvale to san jose, a wet commute. several areas under flood advisory and marin county, sonoma county, parts of santa clara, this is for a lot of standing water on area roadways this morning. the more serious issue on the sender into river on december -- santa cruz county, flash flood warning is in effect for the town evacuated because of this reason. the river is at 20.3 feet and is

rising. it is expected to crest in the next hour but already seeing moderate flooding in the region as the river hasded it. on the storm impact scale, level three, four hours until 9:00 a.m., scatter downpour is a big issue with roadways. smaller streams and issues. the river flooding in santa cruz, keeping our eye on this closely. timing at the storm coming up in two minutes be let's check in with sue with traffic. sue: wet and sloppy on the roads. 80 eastbound, a solid stream of headlights. we had an earlier solo spin out, a lot of those chp reporting this morning because of the wet roads so please, speak could be a definite factor this morning. we'll take a look at wet conditions on the san mateo bridge, high winds for your bridges this morning, san mateo, bay bridge, golden gate bridge, all reporting gusty conditions. bart is now reporting delays due to weather, about 10 minutes

onto your travel in caltrans says -- and caltrans says they will be running slow as well as a strain running at slower speeds this morning due to wet tracks. we had a full freeway closure and still do have a full freeway closer on 580, t the oakland area, standing water is the problem, trying to get caltrans to e sigler is te 8s an,0 is in bh directions. reggie: more than half of bay area counties are under a state of emergency. they are highlighted in red on this map, alice, san missed -- santa cruz, and sonoma. this declaration was made before the storm by the governor and helps to mobilize emergency staff. the california national guard has also been activated. in the santa cruz mountains, people living in felton were forced to evacuate because of flooding. lena howland is live this

morning along highway 17. lena: we are liv 17 near the summit of the santa cruz mountains where the rain is absolutely still coming down on us at this hour. only further up the road from where we are in santa cruz county felton is taking the brunt of the storm now. take a look at this video, a look at the cditions we were seeing in felton around midnight when the flooding was so intense in the felton grove community that deputies were going door-to-door doing evacuations for any folks still home. this video was taken along river road, and for background, this runs parallel to the sandra -- san lorenzo river and this was the same neighborhood we showed you that flooded in the beginning of the year because of rising water that came up to six feet of people's homes. we spoke with a neighbor in the felton grove area that told us this was his fourth time being evacuated and he was told by

deputies to leave around midnight or else he would be at risk. >> the cul-de-sac is constantly getting displaced. it's one of the only affordable areas to like live in santa cruz county and it is hard to l here now. [laughter] lena: we saw thi already showing signs of flooding due to heavy rainfall, also on circle drive. we saw heavy downstream waters coming into graham hill road from the felton shopping center. for this community being evacuated now and being asked to move to higher ground, we have posted a link to all those santa cruz county evacuation centers on our website, abc7news.com. and a list of those are also running at the bottom of your screen now. live along highway 17, lena howland, abc7news. jobina: thank you. today the following schools will be closed in santa cruz county

within the her o watsonville infant center and we also have this information scrolling of the bottom of your screen here. district spokes person alicia armenta -- amana says it is related to the storm. this is a live look at pg&e's outage map for the bay area. green is less than 50 customers, yellow is up to 500, orange is up to 5000, and if you see red, that is over 5000 customers. most of that outages are on the peninsula or south bay. pg&e says nearly 7500 customers are without electricity now. reggie: we are eingamage on the peninsula from the storm. this tree landed on a car, nearly crushing two people inside. this happened on skyline boulevard not far from portola valley. chp says one of the people inside the card and suffer a leg

injury and was taken to the hospital. jobina: a large tree came down on this home on hillside avenue last night. there definitely appears to be damage. we do not know if anyone was home when the tree fell. reggie: there have been no reports of serious flooding or damage in san francisco this morning. yesterday, people were taking no chances. we saw a steady stream of people stocking up on sandbags on kansas and marin streets. one woman tells us her home flooded new year's eve. >> it got into our place about eight inches so we had to replace our furniture and appliances. reggie: in the mission district, 14th street's and others also flooded. there were six to seven inches of water inside of a business and $100,000 in damage. >> we were nine hours pumping water out of here. what we had here was not rainwater. what we has was -- what we had was sewage water. reggie: disgusting.

creeks overflowing their banks. on the exclusive storm impact scale, we are on the tail end of the storm and we keep it at level three until 9:00 a.m. this morning. a big issue with water on the roadways, showers and scatter downpours stone the forecast. it is muggy, dew points in some spots in the 50's so you feel the tropical air right now and temperatures are elevated upper 40's to upper 50's. flood watch is in effect and we have issues of water in areas. 7:00 a.m., some showers, but things really quiet down after 9:00 a.m. and we track more rain over the weekend. we will have that in eight minutes. let's check in with sue and check traffic. sue: a lot of standing water in hydroplaning, the major issue with the rain. this is the richman san rafael bridge, pretty quiet, but you can see the sheen on the roads, it is wet, eight minute drive across the span to marin county side of things and all bridges reporting high winds. over to 880 in oakland we see pretty good conditions past the

coliseum. 580 on the other hand is completely closed near 35th avenue due to flooding so folks are being asked to come here to 880 from 580 so you can see the alternate route is clear, at least at this hour. 580 both directions closed at 35th. here's what it looks like, a significant backup both west and east bound so avoid it if you can. there is 880 looking good. we also have delays, 237 with accident there, partially blocking the slow lane. reggie: thank you. it is wet across the bay area that means more snow for this sierra. many officials telling visitors to stay away. plus -- >> the race for the white house is getting more crowded this morning, plus new legal troubles for former president trump. that is ahead. jobina: and -- won't be happening in the near future. we learn how long the national park will be shut down due to weat

doppler seven and it is lit up. this is a level three storm on our exclusive abc 7 storm impact scale and it will remain a level three until 9:00 a.m. drew is tracking the forecast -- the storm and we will have a look at the forecast in a few minutes. reggie: today, the teenager accused of a deadly stabbing at montgomery high school in santa rosa is expected to be in work. -- in court. investigators say the stabbing happened last week during a fight in the classroom. a 16-year-old student was killed. the 15-year-old suspect was arrested and has been charged with voluntary manslaughter. the attack prompted a number of student walkouts and demands for improved safety at schools. jobina: if you plan on heading out to the sierra, reconsider. road conditions deteriorated overnight. interstate 80 and highway 50 had changing restrictions from chain requirements to full closures. reggie: this is what it looked like yesterday in the sierra. the sierra. -- uc berkeley snow lab posted this

sure are aeofienspond to anythig that occurs. stephanie: a winter storm warning in effect for sierras, -- the sierras, bringing two to eight feet of snow for the mountains, five of which accumulated more than 600 inches of snow so far this season. if someone wanted to come out and ski, would you tell them? >> this is not the weekend, we are in a state of disaster. it's not going to be the ideal. stephanie: you heard the chief, not ideal or safe. the snow is prompting several ski resort closures, including heavenly here in south lake tahoe as well as kirkwood and northstar. we are told from the city several other closures are coming. we will keep a close eye on that list. stephanie sierra, abc7news. reggie: a lot of serious concerns there but also the man, shirtless, shoveling, shout out to him. drew: talk about burying the lead, come on. i was just talking to the weather service and they say the snow level 8000 feet, that is really high, so everything below that is all rain.

you can see that on live doppler 7, a lot of green and not much pinks or whites indicating a lot of rain is falling. rain is currently falling on southlake, truckee, tahoe city, can you see a question market is heavy rain. that was the concern is the rain would fall on all the heavy snow. at home, we are on the tail end of this atmospheric river. scattered isolated showers in the north and peninsula, more steadier rain in the east bay and south day right now so take you to the south bay, light to moderate showers from san jose to morgan hill. mount hamilton is all rain, even in the hills of the bay area. it is a warm storm. we have a flood advisory in effect around gilroy so areas around 101, 150 2, 25 right now, be aware we have water on our roads. we will keep it at a three, strong level 3 storm on the exclusive abc 7 storm impact scale until 9:00 a.m. so we are wrapping up the storm over the next four hours but there are issues of water on roads and smaller streams and creeks.

precipitation for most of the bay area and beyond. jobina: commuters can expect slick roads. we will time it out. good morning, everyone. we are waking up here with you at 5:30. it is friday, march 10. reggie: we have live team coverage of the storm and its impact across the bay area. we start with meteorologist drew tuma. drew: we still have rain out there. the worst rain moved through on the tail end of this he he for . here's live doppler 7 e av rain that moved through. for the north bay, we are through the worst event, an isolated light shower but we have showers in the east bay and south bay this morning. a lot of flood advisories for marin, sonoma county, parts of santa clara county, santa cruz county, because this rain overnight has created issues with water on roads and even smaller streams and creeks overflowing. the bigger issue on the san lorenzo river and santa cruz

mountains, a flash flood warning is in effect in the town of felton has been evacuated because the river created moderate flooding, 23 and expected to rise at six or call game creating the moderate flooding conditions. we will keep our eyes on that. the exclusive storm impact scale, a level three until 9:00 a.m. so we are almost done with this storm but a lot of water on our roads and issues with smaller streams and creeks overflowing their banks. a flood watch is not only in effect for this morning it will last for the weekend as we expect more rain saturday and sunday. this morning at 7:00 a.m., showers and east bay and things really quiet down by lunchtime. we are drying with mostly cloudy skies will take a closer look at the weekend rainfall coming up in a few minutes and let's check in with sue on traffic. sue: standing water is the big issue. we showed you the bay bridge a few minutes ago, no metering

lights but slick roads, high winds. we have a couple problems on the span and westbound direction there is a saw blocking the 5th street offramp on the san francisco side. eastbound on the bay bridge we have the stall blocking a lane of traffic as well so that is leaving san francisco to the oakland side. to walnut creek, you can see emergency lights to where the top of your screen that says southbound 680 past north main street erie looks to be moving at a good clip. it is about an eight minute drive from concord toward the 24 interchange. tony for looks good through the tunnel. where we have a major closer, 580 both directions near 30 for the avenue in oakland, this is flooding and has been there overnight, caltrans is working furiously to get the drains reopened. for now, you cannot use 580, they are diverting traffic near 30 for the onto high street and 880 is your great alternate and it is looking clear so far. jobina: the storm is making for

slick roads much everywhere. you heard sue talk about and joining us live is chp officer david laraque. good morning, david. i heard you got a report of a mudslide so what is happening there? >> we did. state route 84, the spun lane took a mudslide approximately two miles west of this boulevard. we have cruise on scene and we do not have an estimated time of one the roadway will be opening but we will have one-way traffic control momentarily. jobina: can you talk about general conditions right now, what you are seeing, what you want to warn people of and need to come outside? >> it is just gonna be those potential hazards, the high winds brought a lot of branches and debris from above and with the heavy soaking rains, potential potholes and freestanding water, we advised everyone to drive with caution this morning, give extra time to get to where they need to go and if they do not need to go anywhere, just advise them to stay home. jobina: sure.

are there any areas you all specifically are looking at for a problem spot? we know skyline boulevard is kind of a repeat through that area that usually sees issues. >> absolutely. from 101, a lot of our on ramps can get slick with tight cloverleaf's. 280, the speed is always an issue when it is wide open with light traffic fortunately we found a house for last week with standing water that we were able to diverge from coming off of the roadway. have not seen any issues there since and from our coastal commuters, 92, 84, highway 1, being aware of any debris that might have fallen from trees or rock and mudslides. jobina: sure. what does the next few hours look like for you and your team? what will you all be doing? >> our morning shift is out and already set on the road and looking for putting ourselves in

high places of visual or traffic to be aware we are out there and we want them to be mindful of their speed and the always be proceeding with caution while we are fighting the storm. jobina: sounds good. officer, anything you want people to know this morning? >> it's always good practice to turn your lights on. a lot of people have automated lights but they need to make sure they are on when they are traveling in inclement weather. if you have some type of automation on your car or cruise control, not use it in the rain. jobina: that actually is a good tip. why is that, could you elaborate for people? >> so vehicles do not adjust when they hydroplane. if they are any -- on any automation or cruise control and the sudden loss of traction and overcorrection from a driver not prepared for it, it is in evitable that some disaster will

so we cannot get closer because of this closure but chp says there is about 50 feet of mud flight here and half a dozen trees down so they call for a plow and chainsaw so they can clear the road. right now, all lanes are blocked. if you take the highway here in occidental, take another route. this takes you down to the town of freestone and one of the good things we see this morning, not much rain now so hopefully that helps the conditions out here. live in occidental, gloria rodriguez, abc7news. jobina: thank you. here's a quick look at the impact the storm is having in the bay area. mayor was disclosed today and might not reopen until this weekend or might not reopen this weekend at all. the oakland zoo decided it would not reopen today in the observatory atop mount hamilton is shut down because of record snowfall in that area. we are learning yosemite national park will remain closed throughout this -- at least

until the 16th. this closure could extend beyond that as snow melts in the area and creates more runoff and flooding conditions there. crews are working to move ice away from drainage areas to prevent water from building up and damaging the parks infrastructure. reggie: an 81 your old man is safe after spending nearly a week stuck in his car trapped by heavy snow. jerry was rescued when a helicopter spotted his car sitting in the snow bank. he said he became stranded while trying to approach a storm. so he managed to keep himself somewhat warm with a windbreaker, quilt, and towel. he survived on snacks he kept in the car, candy, croissants, and biscotti. jobina: important to keep something in the car while you're traveling, also water. the presidential race continued's to take shape -- continues to take shape. coming outcome of the candidate growing the republican field -- joining the growing republican field. reggie: and robert roberts and
