here is a live showing you our camera in emeryville. the roads are wet as thousands of people are without power. drew is here with what you need to know as you start the day. drew: this is what friday, march 10 -- reggie: this is what friday, march 10 looks like. jobina: it is wet. drew: it is. we are on the tail end of the system thankfully. downpours moving through. the latest on live doppler 7 it will show you much of the action is very light and battered but we are still dealing with residual issues. flood advisory are in effect for marin, for sonoma, up for parts of santa cruz carries. we have water on our roads. we also have issues on the streets and creeks. a flash flood warning is in effect for the san lorenzo river. we have encouraging news. the river is falling.

it looks like it has crested about an hour ago. it is likely going below flood stage around 3:00. for the next three hours as the storm system winds down we'll keep a strong storm. standing water on our roads. we will dry out this afternoon before more rain this week. let's check in with sue and see how we are doing with traffic. sue: a lot of flooding in standing water hydroplaning. issues on 580 in oakland with a full freeway closure. this started last night with standing water. here is a look at the emergency crews trying to clear that water. this is 580 in both directions eastbound and westbound near 35th avenue. 9:30 last night they noticed major flooding like a lake in the middle of the freeway. they shut it down last night.

they are working hard to get 580 reopening. they are advising folks to take 880 as an alternate route. this is 280 in san jose. you can see water on the lens, wet roads, hydroplaning and solo spinouts are definitely possible. there is a look at 880. that is clear and looking good and we will be back with more on this coming up. reggie: for than half of the bay area counties are under a state of emergency. they are highlighted in red on this map. santa clara, santa cruz, sonoma. this declaration was made by the governor ahead of the storm so they can mobilize emergency staff. the california national guard has also been activated. jobina: abc 7

in the north bay but we will start with lena howland live along highway 17 with more of those evacuations overnight. lena: good morning. we are live along highway 17 of the summit of the santa cruz mountains where that rain is starting to let up on us. drew mentioned we are nearing the end of the storm system and i can confirm it is not coming down nearly as heavy as it was 30 or 45 minutes ago. further up the road from where we are at along highway 17 we saw felton taking the brunt of this storm. if you take a look at this video , this was taken right around midnight. the flooding was so intense in the felton grove community deputies were going door-to-door doing evacuations for any folks that were still home. this video was taken along river road at this road runs parallel to the san lorenzo river. this is the same neighborhood that flooded out in the beginning of the year because of

rising water that came up to six feet on people's homes. we spoke with the neighbor in the felton grove area who told us this was his fourth time being evacuated. he was told by deputies to leave around midnight or else he would be at risk. >> constantly getting displaced. it is one of the only really affordable areas to live in santa cruz county. it is hard to live here now. showing more signs of flooding due to heavy rainfall and we saw heavy downstream waters from the felton shopping center. for this community being evacuated we have the full list of santa cruz county evacuation centers running at the bottom of your screen. they have also been posted on our website.

reporting live along highway 17, lena howland, abc 7 news. jobina: a large tree crashing onto a home on hillside avenue last night. there appears to be damage to the roof. we did not know anyone was home when the tree fell. reggie: our team coverage continues with gloria rodriguez live in occidental in sonoma county where down the trees and mudslides are blocking roads right now. gloria: we are live on bohemian highway in occidental near bittner road. this is closed because of a mudslide. chp sing in addition to the mud clock there half a dozen trees down so they are working on clearing the road. we you last night.

traffic. in forestville, two cars got stuck last night. passengers had to be rescued. there were not many or power lines last night. there were a number of flooded streets and are still some concerns. >> we were initially conce with the rainfall intensities. with how saturated our snows are we were more concerned locally with what damage can be done. gloria: to survey your property when the rain stops and says it is important to clear out your storm drains. where we are leads you to the town of freestone. if you take bohemian highway, make sure you find another route. we do not know when this road will open back up.

live in occidental, gloria rodriguez, abc 7 news. reggie: we are seeing damage on the peninsula from the storm. this tree landed on a car crushing two people inside. chp says one of the people inside the car did suffer a leg injury and was taken to the hospital. jobina: today the following schools will be closed in santa cruz county. and solo elementary school, watsonville high school, renaissance high school. we also have this information scrolling at the bottom of your seed. district supervisor says the closures are because of accessibility issues related to the storm. this is a live look at the pg&e outage map for the bay area. the latest update shows more than 5200 customers are without power. most of the outages are in the

south bay. reggie: there been no reports of serious flooding or damage in san francisco. yesterday we saw people lining up to get some sandbags. one woman tells us about her flooded home from new year's eve. >> that we got about eight inches so we had to replace all of our furniture. >> hildebrand furniture at folsom and 14th street also flooded in january. he says he had 15 to 16 inches of water inside his business. about $100,000 of damage. >> we spent nine hours pumping water out. it was not rainwater. we had sewage water. reggie: san francisco has put up temporary flood barriers. officials say crews are working round-the-clock to manage storm drains and try to prevent letting. jobina: shoveling and plowing snow in the sierra.

reggie: just north of lake tahoe one man was determined to help clear the snow even while wearing shorts. his wife said he just got back from the gym. she says even though it was in the 20's he jumped into to help

way causing flooding in one santa cruz county neighborhood. jobina: evacuations in felton grove. that is not the first time that has happened this year. reggie: the rain is making for slick roads this morning. drew is tracking everything you need to know as the storm makes its way over the bay. jobina: good morning. it is friday, march 10. reggie: it is not quite over yet but it is not the worst. drew: we are assessing the damage right now. we got soaked overnight and nwel effects in the form of water on roads. flood advisories in effect for parts of britain, sonoma, santa cruz. we also have a flash flood warning for the san lorenzo river. the town of felton was evacuated. it looks like the river has crested. it is at 19.54 feet right now

and it is falling. it is forecasted around 3:00 this afternoon. we are keeping a level three until 9:00 a.m. because we are still seeing scattered showers, a lot of water on our roads and stream, creek, and river flooding. more rain for the weekend. we will talk about that in a few minutes and say hi to sue and cl traffic -- and see how traffic isn this wet friday. sue: solo spinouts are the thing this morning. metering lights are on. we have flooding in the eastbound direction coming into san francisco on the bay bridge and standing water is a big problem in oakland. 580 eastbound been closed since last night. near 35th avenue a detour is in place and a lot of people are getting the message to take 880. we have an accident north 880

just before 238 in the northbound direction i am seeing slow traffic there. jobina: the storm is making slick roadway conditions pre-much everywhere this morning. joining us live is chp officer david laraque. people that are just joining us this half-hour, you mentioned the landslide from earlier. what is the latest? >> the current slide that was on sr 84 looks to be clear and cruise are moving right down the road ways. another tree down and another mudslide and another one near memory lane. jobina: earlier you gave us great advice that i want to give that back. you are talking about best practices for drivers and mentioned cruise control. what is the note on that? >> cruise control is that old automation and now we have newer cars and newer technologies.

when the vehicle is said to roll at a certain speed without any hazards, without any wet surfaces, that may be the right decision to make. in this inclement weather when there is free standing water, gusts of wind, we want to make sure we keep it in control by the driver driving the vehicle and not the vehicle driving the vehicle. jobina: what are the problem spots for your jurisdiction. where have your team's been out and checking up on and what area should people avoid? >> currently we have a crash 280 northbound south of 92. it looks to not be blocking any lanes. those are the problem areas on 280 where speeds get out of control for the weather. in terms of areas to avoid it will be the high debris areas on skyline boulevard and our coastal roads.

heavy as it was two and a half hours ago when we first came on the air with you and it is causing slick conditions along highway 17. just up the road from where we are in santa cruz county we found the community of felton is bearing the brunt of this storm. take a look at this video taken around midnight. the flooding was so intense in the felton grove community deputies were going door-to-door at doing evacuations for any folks still home around midnight. this was taken along river road, and for background this road runs parallel to the san lorenzo river and this was the same neighborhood we showed you that flooded out in the beginning of the year because of rising water that came up to six feet on people's homes. we spoke with one neighbor in the felton grove area overnight who do not want to show his face on camera but told us this was his fourth time being evacuated and heas tolutso woultisdesphomes river he

one stuck at groun thesur uthere are houses in the neighborhood they're not even raised. lena: already showing signs of flooding due to heavy rainfall on circle drive and we also saw heavy downstream waters coming into graham hill road from the felton shopping area. if you do get evacuated in that community of felton or anywhere else in santa cruz county, we have a list of evacuation centers scrolling at the bottom of your screen. they are also listed on our website, abc7news.com. lena howland, abc7news. reggie: in santa cruz county of covert collapsed. a covert is a tunnel that carries a stream or open train underneath a road.

this happened under main street. firefighters are there assessing the flooding and possible damage left behind. hundreds of homes could be impacted by this. jobina: in the south bay people are concerned the wind and rain could lead to flooding of down trees and power lines. workers in gilroy are not taking any chances. they spent yesterday making sure items in the store were lifted off the ground. in san jose one man who has lived in the area his entire life tells us he is never seen a winter like this one. >> i know this is crazy weather. i've been here all my life. this is the first time i've experienced something like this. that is the way it goes. you know? jobina: good attitude. the city of san jose has been working to clear the storm drains to help prevent flooding. reggie: if you are in the city of san jose you can call 311 if

you see storm drains that are backed up. the number is for nonemergencies that includes trees or branches that may fall during the storm. >> you have cruise monitoring calls from residents in their free time. they are clearing leaves and other debris. reggie: valley water crews cleared creek beds before the storm arrived. they're also watching local highways in case there is flooding like we saw in january. in the east bay foothill road remains closed from castlewood drive because of past mudslides. officials keeping an eye on the water levels. we found cruise clearing storm drains near oaktree farm drive. lafayette and emory to hills have been preparing for mudslides. after the storms one woman says she does not take this lightly. >> having candles, electric or battery-operated lights, we lost power off and on in this area a lot.

we are ready for that every time. reggie: orinda public been working to clear their storm drains. strong wind and heavy rains are expected. officials say to be ready to evacuate if you live on the hillside. they also say that constantly check your home foundations to make sure they are intact. it may remember a home fell its foundation in january and today the damage is still there. jobina: here's a quick look the impact the storm is having on the bay area. the oakland zoo decided in advance it will not look better today. record amount of snow there. yosemite national park will remain closed through at least the 16th. the closure could extend beyond that. crews are working to away from drainage area to

on the exclusive abc 7 storm impact scale it is level 1 light storm. not as impactful as the we are going through right now. a closer look at the storm and the seven-day forecast coming up in nine minutes. let's check in with sue. sue: a lot of wet roads and hydroplaning, standing water, and wind. wind is a factor on the golden gate bridge. partially clearing in the north bay. the standing water remains. we have problems all around the bay. we have a full freeway closure. i will tell you about that in just a second. 880 northbound with an accident blocking the lane and slow traffic on 238. full closure on highway 84. that is a sig alert. northbound 680 in the northbound direction for an accident there.

reggie: a winter storm warning is in effect for the sierra. lola lanky is in south lake tahoe with more on how residents are bracing for the impact. >> after weeks of getting pounded by the snow, now it is the rate increasing the risk for roots collapsing. we have this roof. it has three to four feet of snow weighing down on it. we have six or seven or eight feet of snow weighing this down. people not able to clear the roofs off fast enough. there is also a risk of a roof avalanche where all of this snow and ice come sliding down off a roof onto unsuspecting people

below, creating the avalanche effect. the reason why this combination of snow and rain is so dangerous , all of this snow is absorbing all of this rainfall, creating even more weight on top of these roofs, increasing the risk for collapse or avalanche. jobina: that is incredible. the emmy award-winning actor who went from critical acclaim to murder suspect has died. the family of robert blake says he died from heart disease yesterday at his home in l.a. he started the 1970 show beretta. he had hoped for a comeback but he was tried and acquitted in the killing of his wife in the early 2000. robert blake was 89. reggie: abc's new sources says florida governor ron desantis intends to launch a 2024 president campaign. a announcement is not e until may and june. the announcement comes when

donald trump was invited to testify before a grand jury in new york as part of the investigation into a hush money payment to stormy daniels. trump has denied having an affair with daniels. jobina: inmates in the san mateo county jail in redwood city are suing over a policy that prevents them from receiving physical mail. according to the chronicle, the county started sending mail to a company that digitizes it and then destroys the paper copies. the inmates can only view the letters on a computer or tablet. inmates say this practice violates their constitutional rights, adding physical mail is a lifeline for inmates and often their only connection to the outside world. reggie: the 49ers seem to have laid off nearly 30 employees and ongoing friction with the management. according to the chronicle, the layoffs include executive vice president vice president and

general manager of the stadium. as of thursday to many names have disappeared from the team staff directory. that includes 22 people who worked in the front office. so far the 49ers have made no public announcement but notified city officials with a few details. now for our morning money report , another better-than-expected month for the labor market. the latest jobs report shows 311,000 new jobs were added in the last month. the unemployment rate remains exceptionally low, but it has increased to 3.6% from 3.4%. although numbers are strong they are not spread across different sectors evenly. while the service economy is regaining its strength after the pandemic, technology, manufacturing, and transportation are pulling back. a live look at the new york stock exchange as trading gets underway this friday. negative territory, down about 170 points.

good morning america coanchor robin roberts giving us a visit. jobina: she was a leader at the university of san jose's silk speaker series. the event is a discussion covering everything from business and culture to global affairs. she became emotional when discussing her role on gma and receiving the news about meeting bone marrow. >> this is why we are supposed to enjoy the journey and not the destination. i did not know what the next year or two was going to be like. it made me truly appreciate that yes i am going to set goals, and not have an expectation on how that will make me feel. jobina: former stanford basketball scar and olympic gold medalist moderated the discussion, and there she is. robin was live with us on set. we had a chance to have some fun with her, too. >> good morning, bay area.

[laughter] robin is lovely. reggie: jobina and i had private time with her afterwards. we spoke about things we will not speak about, but i thought it was interesting to talk about weddings. she is getting married to her fiance soon. the three of us -- all of us are married. jobina is the most recent to get married. drew got married last year. i got married a few years ago. she was asking us are buys about weddings. that was the kind of thing where we are like we are an expert at something you are not?

jobina: i just passed the six month mark. reggie: the thing that was so relatable to me, she has been with her partner for 18 years and that is about how long i was with my husband before we got married. we talked about how neither one of us ever thought about us having the possibility of getting married in our lifetime. we never had a dream of what that what it would look like. now you find yourself at the age you are planning a wedding when this was never in your head. it is a brand-new thing. i think a lot of queer -- did you feel that way? drew: it is a vision, i put it all together. jobina: i thought it was cool to witness that conversation because as someone who is not a part of the queer community but as an ally, hearing that is interesting and learning. you always learn something new
