solutions. this is abc 7 news. reggie: at 4:30, at live doppler, green and yellow. another wet morning for the bay area. kumasi: here it means more snow in the sierra, mountain communities inundated with several feet of snow racing for more. some businesses and homes buckling under the weight of snow. reggie: team coverage tracking the latest atmospheric river and on the roads, welcome to tuesday, march 14. we are on early to get you started and let you have a safer day. kumasi: we will start with drew. drew: we have a lot of rain already. live doppler 7, we were preparing you for this. tuesday morning commute would be very messy. that is what we are finding at this early morning hour.

heavy rain moving across the city, dropping down to street level. a lot of san francisco dealing with moderate to heavy rain over the bay bridge and into emeryville, alameda, heavy rain in marin county. pops of yellow and orange, a downpour from noe valley, fairfax, san raphael. 101 toward the golden gate bridge will be slow with water on roadways. a picture of live doppler 7, heavy rain over the next several hours. a flood watch in effect. on the abc 7 storm impact scale, level three. rain heavy, we will see areas of flooding especially on our roads and the winds will ramp up, turning strong and bringing damaging wind. live doppler 7 has heavy rain moving into northern and central california. flood watch is in effect. hour-by-hour on future weather, timing of the storm in about eight minutes. we will show you those winds in

a bit. kumasi: drew has been warning us to avoid traveling for the next few hours if possible. gloria rodriguez tracking that commute at the bay bridge toll plaza and the impact of storms have had across the east bay. >> good morning. the rain continuing to follow and more traffic hitting the roads as people had to work. a wet commute. that is not the only impact we are seeing. footage we h oakland zoo will be closed because of the atmospheric river. it was open yesterday and baby meerkats were born. a sinkhole shutdown the zoo for january and it reopened february 3, only to shut down more times because of rain. >> with the shutdown, opening and closing, people don't know we are open. our attendance has taken a hit. it has been slow.

with this weather, redwood canyon golf course in castro valley has been closed since the first of the year with flooding damaging the course. las positas golf course in livermore so close but hopeful to open this weekend. the creek overflowing, flooding holes in bringing mud into the parking lot. if you're driving to work this morning, go a little slower today because of the rain. reggie: vromorthay ere mudslide is blocking one of two lanes on the chp highway near sonoma county. this is closed as crews worked to get debris off the roadway. don't know when they will reopen. that is not the only problem. some hones have been road town consider rosa after a hillside began to give way.

reporter amanda del castillo life. >> the wind is picking up. i'm in front of one of the two red attacked homes in santa rosa, the hillside you are talking about just behind these homes. during the sunlight you can see a tarp lay down along the slope meant to repel the rain. the biggest worry surrounds this atmospheric river forecast two -- two an additional two of three inches of rain today. the soil is saturated. other residents understandably concerned about what the movement could mean for them. >> more rain on the way so we will see how much the dirt continues to shift. we don't know what to expect. >> fire officials say the

continued rain, the of soil has moved the hillside considerably. city engineers are monitoring conditions on the hill hour-by-hour. the focus is on stabilizing and minimizing the damage. trying to work on the repair plan. we are out here this morning where it is coming down. we will have to see what this means for residents. kumasi: serious damage in the lake tahoe area. heavy snow is taking a toll on homes. from this video, one person took it. it shows a crack in the ceiling. several people have seen the roofs and front entrances collapse. a third grocery store in south lake tahoe is closed as a precaution because of an unstable roof. we want to show you the current conditions, a live look from our camera at lake tahoe. you can see visibility here is decent but expected to get worse.

it also has not been easy getting to tahoe. this is video along 80 near donner summit yesterday. chains are required for anyone driving from kingvale to the donner lake interchange. reggie: amazing statistics. uc berkeley central sierra snow lab in soda springs posted this video yesterday, they measured another 13.2 inches of snow over the last 24 hours, the third snow yes winter on record at the lab. they recorded more than 54 feet of snow since october and they expect up to 30 more today. kumasi: finding creative ways to clear the snow. these homeowners used a rope tied to a bocce ball and cut through the snow. they said the moisture was bringing water damage to the inside the house but snow services are booked solid so they had to figure it out.

it is a temporary fix and they are planning to hire a crew when they can. reggie: yosemite national park could reopen later this week after being slammed by snow. a spokesperson told abc 7 they're shooting for a partial reopening friday. it depends on what is happening during the current atmospheric river. somebody has been closed for 2.5 weeks. kumasi: more of the financial fallout on silicon valley bank, the impact on businesses in the bay area. reggie: plus the vote in san francisco that could determine a food security lifeline for low income families. let's get to drew tuma. drew: a is he morning, rain turned heavy at times. live doppler 7, you can see rain everywhere. a lot of green on the screen, some downpours working to parts of the north bay, the city and the east bay. we press down, one of the heavily commuted areas from the richmond san rafael bridge, the

bay bridge and the golden gate bridge. seeing moderate to heavy rain, we will likely see water on area roadways. it is mild, the atmospheric river has brought in humidity, warm air, mid to upper 50's if not low 60's in solano county. atmospheric river on live doppler 7 and satellite slamming into northern and central california this morning, not only rain, the wind will ramp up as well. the morning commute is a mess. if you can wait until after 10:00 a.m. will be in better shape. at the height of the commute, tracking heavy rain moving through. after 10:00, things calm down. scattered showers through the afternoon. the heaviest of the rain will have moved out. level 3 three of the morning rain, gusting winds, upper 50's 50's to lower 60's. a high wind warning is in effect for the entire region. the winds are light right now but over the next several hours

kumasi: santa rosa as montgomery high school is adding security, putting an officer on campus today and tomorrow in the wake of the second concerning incident this month. jobina is life. jobina: friday, parents called police to report the school had sent an email saying two students wrought knives to school before police even heard about this from administrators.

15 and 17-year-old students were arrested the next day. prior to the16-year-old was stad killed inside a classroom during a fight. a second student was stabbed in the incident. and is recovering. a 15-year-old has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in this death. students in the district have expressed they don't feel safe. parents are echoing concerns because montgomery high school is not the only school with incidents within the district. the montgomery high school principal and assistant principal have been placed on administrative leave through the end of the school year. reggie: to the collapse of silicon valley bank and concerns about a ripple effect through the economy. a quick timeline. federal regulators closed the silicon valley bank friday after the bank ran out of money to impart -- due in part to a huge

portfolio, depositors rushing to do this at once. the treasury said they would not bail out the bank but would use $25 billion to offset customer losses. president biden said banks are safe. some feel they are in limbo. the brink of collapse. >> when we were here friday, the mood of silicon valley bank customers in menlo park was concern and fear they may lose their businesses after the bank failure. for some, relief. >> i think the government moved fast. they did a good job. i am grateful. >> at the santa clara branch, others worried after seeing the flaw in the system. >> we will feel relief when the
