windbreak and able to pulled the truck upright 30 minutes ago. >> we just got this video in from san francisco. it shows the empty hole left behind after a window fell out of the high-rise at 555 california st. it is believed to be weather related. people any the area of california and pine streets were told to shelter in place. authorities said one window on the third floor cracked. a young girl is recovering strong winds toppled a redwood tree. denting the roof and falling on the classroom. the girl suffered a minor head injury and was taken to stanford medical center. the girl is expected to be at school later this week. >> all over the bay area power outages are a problem and are blamed on the weather. i know walnut creek a tree leaning on to power lines in windy conditions.

take a look at pg&e's outage map. it looks like a christmas tree. there are 258,000 customers without power bay area wide. that drop slightly pit the south bay remains the hardest area with 128 thousand. customers without power was leanna campbell, cupertino and sunnyvale followed by the east bay with 68,000 outages. >> let's begin our team coverage with abc 7 news which meteorologist sandhya patel. >> is it getting a little bit better? from the wind and rain perspective. let's take a look at a live picture. sfo care must still showing you raindrops on the lens. they are reporting delays over two hours due to wind and the rain. strongest wind gusts so far, los gatos 88 miles per hour. sfo, 74. novato, 60. still gusty appeared not as windy as it has been.

as you take a look at the hilltops mount diablo is 32. 7:00 tonight you are still going to notice the winds are gusting over 30 miles per hour across parts of the bay. they will ease as we head towards 11:00 p.m. the ground is so soaked it is not going to take a lot of wind to knock things over. wind gusts will still remain in the 50 to 70 for the highest peaks for a few more hours. there are still showers scattered about around highway 17. the summit heading toward highway 101 into gilroy, monterey road, santa teresa road. it is a moderate strength storm level two primarily because we are still going to be dealing with downed trees and potential for power outages. 7:00 tonight still a few showers . 8:00 as well. 9:00 p.m. shifting into the gilroy area. flood watch until 4:00 a.m.

photographer dean here says he is never seen and photographed so many downed trees in a single day. so many trees have come down because of today's fierce winds. just before noon we got to burlingame. here at el camino in cambridge a massive 60 foot tree could not withstand the gusty winds. a 40 foot branch came crashing down blocking lanes of traffic. utility lines got yanked down. city crew spent a long time rerouting traffic around the mess. things got a little tricky on southbound 280 between millbrae avenue and trousdale drive a high wind advisory was in effect for the area. drivers battled the elements it had to maneuver around the fallen eucalyptus tree. all debris forced cars to use the shoulder and traffic slowed to a crawl. it was one of two trees that toppled on a stretch of 280. here is another fallen tree that partially block of the offramp on trousdale drive.

in san down. all the rain has saturated the ground. two different trees toppled. they blot a section of northbound el camino real. it happened across the treat -- the street from this doctors office. the back entrance tests and colors i care is blocked because the wind took down the awning. >> it was very loud. there was fortunately no one was injured and no one was parked back there. >> all across the region the wet weather and spray head a lot of people coming and going. it was the wind that made its mark. here's a closer look from crystal springs dam. you can see the winds whipping across the reservoir. in beaumont at the school two trees came down in the playground. as first responders worked to secure the area many are grateful no one was hurt and school was not damaged. we got all sorts of photographs

today from tree crews and residents. trees into homes. trees on cars paired most in the burlingame and carlos area. it was a tough day for so many people because of the wind and the rain. we are live in san mateo. >> rain might have kicked off the day but in the east bay it was the roaring winds that started taking down trees and power lines in the afternoon. leslie brinkley continues our live coverage. >> lots of reports this afternoon from all over. while marinda comeau won a creek and throughout the east bay about downed power lines and trees. i took a drive this way. as you can see behind me this tree totally cracked at the base. huge 50, 60 foot pine tree. if i continue driving there is more downed power lines. more trees down in every direction.

navigating neighborhoods this afternoon, even now since the storm subsided it is still a bit treacherous. trees toppled seemingly everywhere. the ferocious winds took down not only the huge trees but in many cases power lines. roads were blocked and traffic snarled. from ygnacio valley road to hilltop crescent in one creek. >> i'm strapped because of way our tree company told us we have three more years life in the trees. have been gone all morning. came home to this. >> pg&e crews across the region patching a power outages. it was morning rains that may have triggered problems at this contra costa county administration building in pleasant hill. worker showed up to find water coming in from the roof of their third floor offices. the decision was made to evacuate the building as a precaution impacting employment and human services paired the

workforce development board and the smelled business development -- the small business develop and center. >> we know there was water coming into the building. the uncertainty with all the rain that had been happening, we did not want to take any chances. >> more than 100 employees were told to go home to work remotely or were assigned to other nearby office space. slick roads caused a big rate to jackknife early in the mornings in pleasanton at castlewood. at one point the backup was nine miles long to part of stanley boulevard in -- in pleasanton remains closed. this down around noon today. they got the live powerlines out of the road, chopped this up just a bit but a lot of messes to still be resolved out here in the east bay as we go into the evening. at least the wind has now combed

down. dramatically different than a couple hours ago. reporting live in the east bay. >> those crews are working hard. at the golden gate bridge peak gusts topped 64 miles per hour this afternoon. bicyclists are not allowed on the west sidewalk because the wind is too strong. you need to share the east sidewalk with pedestrian spirit gusty winds forced a lot of big trees to come crashing down across the north bay. abc seven news reporter lena howland shows you the damage done in marin county. >> as rain hammered parts of marin county the wind was a beast of its own glowing downed trees, debris and trash cans while utility workers struggled to work through the rain. this while some homes were inches away from disaster in the community of woodacre. >> we have a tree about to go down on our house. i'm just grateful we are ok. >> she has lived here for 31 years. but this morning was forced to

replica batmobile he ordered from fiberglass frakes in logansport indiana. report says the sheriff took his call because he is acquainted with them. he is a local businessperson and a friend of the sheriff's brother. the sheriff referred the case to the head of his vehicle theft task force even though this case did not fall within its mission. the head of the task force spent six-month investigating and took a crew of four department personnel to raid the batmobile garage in indiana. >> he never bothered to call you before showing up at your garage. >> or having somebody else contact me either way. >> so the never got your side of this. >> the report points out calling the sheriff he tried to sue mark rica but the judge dismissed it saying indiana courts were the proper venue p the judge says the das office has a policy that complainants like him who choose to resolve their disputes in civil court cannot avail themselves of the

live picture from our golden gate bridge camera. the flag is not blowing in the wind quite as violently as it was earlier. this is an improvement compared to what we were seeing before. we are still dealing with showers. very spotty in nature around the santa cruz mountains. felton, capitola heading into the kilroy area across highway 101. if you do have to travel across monterey road, still some slippery roadways. the atmospheric river causing damage. take a look at all the reports. over 60 reports from flooding to non-thunderstorm wind damage across the region. a much rain are we talking about? dumped over two inches of rain over santa rosa. four inches in ben lomond. san francisco, 89 hundredths. you look at the rain shadow of the santa cruz mountains, by the time the moisture reached san

jose and livermore it was only a quarter to eighth third of an inch. temperatures anywhere from the 40's to the 60's. live view from zephyr cove where it is choppy waters. the snow level rising. they have seen almost a foot of snow at the highest elevations. you see the snow on the ground. winter storm warning remains up until 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. five to 10 inches of snow above 6000 feet. 10 to 20 inches above 8000 feet. gusts to 70 miles per hour. this is giving you a little glimpse of what is to come. a little peek of some clearing. gusty winds and showers through tonight. dry and sunnier the next two days. on our exclusive storm impact scale i'm keeping this as a two for a few more hours through tonight. gusty winds strongest in the hills. downed trees and outages are still a possibility.

as active as earlier on the worst of today's strong storm hit the bay area but what you don't see on the radar are the winds. in the east bay police blocked off traffic in union city neighborhood. five large eucalyptus trees fell along sterling drive. they damaged several homes and vehicles. one witness said she was getting out of her car when she noticed a tree about to fall. there are no known injuries at this time. > on the peninsula a fallen tree almost hit a van. this was in the brentwood neighborhood of south san francisco. fortunately the tree did not hit anything as it came down. cal fire crews cut up a eucalyptus tree on highway 92 blocking the road. in the north bay an example of why road closed signs should not be ignored. our news crew spotted this van drive right as does sign and a greenville only to stall a few feet into the flooded street. the sonoma county fire district had to be called to pull those inside the van to safety. the driver says she learned her

lesson. in santa rosa crews had to clear a giant tree that toppled overnight damaging two cars and bringing down at powerline could bob duxbury heard it come down. he is not fazed by the wild weather. >> i grew up on the south side of manchester. this is tuesday. >> all the rain is getting to take its toll. they are worn out by what they are calling these long crazy wet days. wind gusts picked up quite a scare for a couple in novato. a tree was uprooted and fell on their home. it crashed through the roof of their bedroom paired the wife is home at the time but made it out safely. > i heard glass breaking so when i walked out i thought it was like the window and then i looked and i could see sky. >> no one was hurt but the house had to be red tagged. we saw many roads have been

closed due to storm damage. >> open roads, things like potholes can be damaged -- can be damaging and dangerous. dustin dorsey explains how potholes are impacting repair demand. > getting around in been no easy feat with almost constant rain and back to back atmospheric rivers roads have been a dangerous place for drivers. >> it has been insane. it has been insane. took me over an hour to get here. people are driving way too fast. the roads themselves need a lot of work. there is a lot of potholes and flooding and more dangerous than they have been to >> the san jose department of transportation has been doing everything they can to keep up. they normally received five calls a day to repair potholes. 10 on a rainy day. >> we have been averaging more like 20 to 25 calls a day since we started to get these big storms. there is no let up. >> the dot says crews have been

able to repair potholes in the rain. well they have fixed more than 20,000 potholes under the city since 2019 there is no slowing down this year. >> we are working. our field crews are committed to the job to keep people safe. they are out there around the clock dealing with all kinds of storm impacts. potholes are one of the top priorities. >> if the road has not been fixed and you had a pothole you may end up at a tire repair shop to >> driver hit a pothole and it paints the rubber somehow. >> like the dot bruce's tires and a san jose is noting -- is noticing an uptick in calls. >> 50 sometimes. >> 50 per day? >> sometimes. we have been pretty busy. lot of busted rims, punctures. seen my fair share of cracked wheels. unfortunately from the weather. >> bruce's tires special getting your tires preemptively checked can proactively prevent the damage.
