saturation. several streets flooded across the bay area with hillsides slipping and another atmospheric river heading towards us right s.w. thanksor we live team stormwatch coverage tonth frce dinglas. frances: this system is on its way out. i want to show you the live doppler 7 with the satellite image. we got quite a bit of rain. the heaviest of it was this morning. as we look right now, we are seeing some light showers around the bay area. where i am come out i am getting a little bit of sunshine. rain totals were all over the place in some places like san jose, almost nothing. then we got over an canfield, san francisco almost an inch. for tonight and into tomorrow morning, we will see a few pop-up showers.

for the most part, the system is over. then we get a decent break on monday before a level two storm arrives on tuesday. i will have more details on that storm. dion:owrmtc theorth bay where today's rain added to a growing list of storm related damage and concerns. rain started early this morning, and these are the conditions drivers based on highway 101. cornell barnard joins us live in mill valley with the struggle to cope with this onslaught of rain. maybe this is an understatement, but spring cannot come fast enough. cornell: [laughter] right? exactly, dion, that is for sure. another round of rain today brought rain to parts of southern marin, including here. in sonoma county, all eyes are on a landslide. and yes, more rain is on the way. a tough go on shoreline highway in mill valley, where a

combination of rain and high tide created some very deep water. >> it is so wild to see it this high and so long. cornell: chp had to close portions of the road after several drivers got stuck in floodwater. carolias >> i have toe back, so i don't want to go that way and ruin my car. cornell: it looks a little too deep. >> definitely. cornell: steady rain made north bay roadways slick and hazardous. we saw this spin out on northbound highway 101 in santa rosa, a car facing the wrong direction in the center divide. >> scary. i wake up at night when it rains really hard. cornell: catherine is watching the weather and the unstable hillside behind her home on cooper drive in santa rosa, where two neighboring homes were red tagged last week. friday, sky 7 found citigroups using bulldozers to remove portions of the landslide. but with another atmospheric river in the forecast, catherine is feeling nervous. >> i don't want it to impact the

forecast, it looks like the first few days of spring looking a lot like winter. live in marin, on cornell bernard, abc 7 news. dion: what a spring it will be. also in the north bay, a portion of highway 29 is closed after a landslide in nampa county -- in napa county. crews are working north of canastota. across the bay area, drivers had to navigate slick roads. here's a look at some of the driving conditions from earlier on in the day. that is san rafael and the richmond bridge. chp advises people to check the caltrans website. you can see it on your screen right below. check your route before leaving the house to make sure there are no road closures or dangerous conditions. the roads are also wet in the sierra for those heading back home from ski resorts. this is how it looked earlier today on interstate 80 in truckee. you can see the snow falling.

chains are not required over dahmer summit -- over donner summit. this morning, the uc berkeley snow lab tweeted they added more than an inch and a half from the storm, with much more coming today and this week. they are just one inch away from this season being the second snowiest on record, just behind the 1982-1983 season. in san francisco, the weather is to blame for a large tree falling on top of a car and a pickup truck in the pacific heights this afternoon. that tree also brought down cables in sacramento and buchanan street. the one california line had to be rerouted around the area. crews worked to fix the cables and remove that tree. now a quick reminder, you can keep track of the changing conditions and access the very same live doppler 7 that our weather team uses. it is all available on demand on the abc 7 bay area news app. download it wherever you happen to stream.

moving on now, governor newsom is asking lawmakers and voters to approve a 2024 ballot measure that would expand housing and treatment for people suffering from mental illness and addiction. newsom's proposal to address the state's homelessness crisis what crisis would cost $1 billion every year. it would build modern community treatment centers to house people suffering with mental illness or substance abuse. >> it is on acceptable what we are dealing with at scale in the state of california. not only in terms of what is happening on the streets and sidewalks, but those who are suffering alone, those who are unseen, in mobile home parks, on the streets as well, in isolation. we have to address and come to grips with the reality of mental health in this state and our nation. dion: the new proposal also includes funding to house more than 10,000 homeless veterans. crews are working to right a freight train that went off the rails and sonoma county.

this happened thursday night, shortly after the smart freight train left shell though. the eight car train was carrying grain to petaluma when four cars to railed. there were no injuries. the cause is under investigation. a large crane has been brought in to get those cars back onto the tracks. the train transports grain from the midwest every thursday night after the commuter services done. it runs freight and other rail service in the north bay on old southern pacific rail tracks. smart freight is hoping service will be back to normal by thursday. we are getting a first-hand perspective of a fight against destructive flames. a body camera on firefighter in oakland captures some of the horrific moments. we will take a look at what it takes to get control of a force of nature. and an update for you on that road work this weekend that shut down all northbound lanes of i-680 and parts of alameda county. new information from caltrans that brings a sigh of

to be isolated to one unit. new details now. caltrans has reopened one lane of northbound interstate 860. crews have been working all weekend to replace entire sections of the roadway in sonoma and pleasanton. southbound 680 is not affected by the closure. this morning, caltrans tweeted this photo of crews placing concrete on the roadway. caltrans says the reconstruction project will make for a smoother .ride for motorists where than 6300 runners signed up for the open running festival. events included a marathon, half my-athon, 10k, and 5k run. the top finisher had a time of two hours, 20 six minutes, 17 seconds. the first woman to cross the finish line at three hours, it's minutes, 45 seconds. and this is our very own

san francisco gay softball league. they are celebrating their 50th anniversary season, and they kicked off the proceedings. the league has 700 players from 44 teams that compete across two divisions. a band got them into the spirit of the event despite the weather. >> this is just the start of there are opening ceremonies to bring everyone together, and it shows. folks showed up here in the rain. dion: they played an exposition game with the police department softball game. active frances, up and wearing her rain gear. very different from 24 hours ago. frances: temperatures have dropped, although it is still pretty mild. we will be dealing with the spotty showers popping up overnight, possibly into early tomorrow morning.

we will show you the doppler, the satellite image moving. we have. the just a few light showers starting to clear out. those showers may continue to pop up. this is a gorgeous view from the east bay hills. the temperatures are mostly in the 50's. we are still seeing some 60's in a few southbay neighborhoods, so that is very impressive. san jose and santa clara at 61. half moon bay is cooler at 52. then i want to take you to the roof camera where we see the winds have combed down. the trees aren't blowing so much. but we have gray skies over many parts of the bay area. more 50's out there. we have novato and concord at 57. livermore at 59. this time we will take you to the south where they barely got any rain. the san jose airport only got six hundredths of an inch of rain. here's what you need to know for the forecast.

tomorrow will be mostly dry for the first day of spring. we will need that break because on tuesday at atmospheric river arrives then lingers into wednesday. it will weakened by wednesday. after that, it does look drier into the end of next week. next weekend is looking pretty nice at this point. it is a level two storm wednesday morning out of five. we could bump this to a three depending on how the atmospheric river tracks. at this point, it is starting to track further south. that is why it is a level two at this point. the downpours will happen especially tuesday morning. then most areas generally less than an inch right now but the models have been fluctuating, so we will keep you posted on that. the real concern is because the ground is so saturated we could see some shallow landslides, especially during that tuesday morning. possible local flooding.

tomorrow, mostly dry. that is a great time to clear out the rain gutters and get ready because here is the heavy rainfall tuesday morning. you see the pockets of orange and ride, especially in the santa cru tuesday afternoon, even though the rain is not as heavy, the winds will really pick up. those wraparound showers will continue all the way into wednesday. here are the wind gusts. we are talking winds from 30 to 50 miles an hour on tuesday afternoon. that will make it really difficult, even if it is not as wet, especially driving across bridges for the morning commute on tuesday. overnight lows in the 40's with lots of cloud cover. you can see this forecast animation with those pop up greens. those are the possible showers that could linger into tomorrow morning. tomorrow's highs will be on the
