>> the person who is not here anymore. ama: a safeway worker killed on the job months ago. they are feeling the heart ache all over again. the reason you will see only on seven. good evening i'm alma davis. dan: we will have that exclusive interview in a few moments but first we want to turn your attention to the weather. another rainy start tomorrow. ama: abc 7 meteorologist sandhya patel is here to walk us through but which we should expect with the storms. sandhya: it will be a stormy morning commute so plan accordingly as we take a look at live doppler right now. it is a level two storm, moderate strength that is coming together. an area of low pressure and cold unstable air and a moisture plume that is focused on southern california with this

atmospheric river. we will get our share of the storm. it is going down south. you can see the rain bands increasing across southern california. we go hour-by-hour tomorrow morning at 5:00. the brain is pretty much widespread covering the entire region and intensifies as it moves through and turns scattered for the afternoon hours. when advisory 7:00 to 9:00 except for the north bay. wind gusts to 50 miles per hour impossibly stronger over the hills as we go hour-by-hour. the winds are ramping up. 40 miles per hour near the coast. close to 60 as a low-pressure system gets closer to the coast line tomorrow evening. hazardous commute tomorrow. we're looking at downpours and gusty winds. minor flooding on the roadways. it is a level two on the storm impact scale. the rain will be heavy at times and gusty winds and even a slight chance of thunder. i will be back to tell you more about the storm and the sierra snow which is going down in the

safeway worker's death, his family feels a loss again. >> the first thing i thought it was my mom because i didn't want to leave her broken again. reporter: last summer mandate was working at the safeway in san jose when he was shot during an early-morning robbery. friends and coworkers started a memorial outside his workplace, which became a sacred gathering place for his family. they transformed and decorated the memorial for his birthday, dia de los muertos and other holidays. >> he was very sad. me and my brother watch the game outside safeway. reporter: after receiving a complaint, the department of transportation clean and remove the last tuesday. >> i totally respect that but if you left it for almost 10 months, you know that a year is two months away. reporter: the memorial had been up since june and when the city

started investigating the complaint, they noticed it was attracting graffiti. >> it sad to hear that someone complained about it. i live right across and has nev. reporter: he walked by the memorial often. he thinks the ship -- the city it should be focused on other things. >> they should focus on things that really matter more than this sidewalk declaration. they don't cut the grass. really? i'm sorry, but it doesn't make sense. reporter: the city released the statement. we understand families desired to have a place to grieve and remember their loved ones. however, if they are impeding in the public right-of-way, growing in size and generating complaints or attracting graffiti or gang activity, we will follow the removal policy and clear them. >> i would love to find a way to maybe get permission from the city to have something even small. reporter: in san jose, lauren martinez, abc7news. dan: in a case that drew

national attention, a woman was sentenced to prison today for admitting to planning the kidnapping of a baby in san jose. a judge sentenced yesenia ramirez 213 years and four months. she cries -- cried for 40 minutes in court apologizing for connecting baby brandon in april. she took biological mother shopping to distract her while the boyfriend took the three month old boy. her accomplice jose portillo was sentenced to five years in prison. now to the latest in the hush money case against former president donald trump. tonight, the u.s. secret service is coordinating security plans with nypd in the event that trump is indicted and brought to court. ama: this after he claimed over the weekend without evidence that he would be arrested tomorrow. the former president has not yet been charged with a crime but is still urging supporters to protest over the investigation into his campaign finances. manhattan district attorney has been investigating trump for his alleged hush money payment made

to adult film actress stormy daniels before the election. dan: michael cohen already pleaded multi-to federal campaign violations and said he helped arrange payments at trump's discretion. a close ally of the former president robert costello testified to a grand jury today saying michael: previously told him the exact opposite. >> if they have solid evidence so be it but michael cohen is far from solid evidence. ama: the grand jury is now until wednesday. at the manhattan district attorney has still given law enforcement partners no indication of when or whether an indictment could come. dan: earlier today we spoke with the political analyst jackie spear about the possibility of an indictment against the former president. she believes he could possibly benefit by it for his 2020 campaign. >> it would damage most candidates running for president. i don't know if it really damages donald trump because he

has got this 30% of the republican party that is with him no matter what he does. itself this will actually be what breaks him. frankly, it could in fact have more damage for democrats. dan: jackie says the case that prosecutors are building against trump is too weak to ultimately lead to a conviction. she points to the claim that the former president tried tampering with the 2020 election results in georgia as a much stronger case. ama: a federal judge has blocked a california state law that requires new semi-automatic handgun's to have certain safety features. the ruling from a u.s. district judge in orange county said the law violates the right to bear arms under the second amendment. it is the latest in a line of decision striking down state gun laws following a u.s. supreme court ruling last year that expanded gun rights. the ruling will not take effect for 14 days to get the state a chance to appeal. dan: we've heard a lot about how

downtown san francisco has struggled to recover from the pandemic. today you would not know that. thousands of visitors are in town for this year's game developers conference. abc7news reporter jr stone was there with a look at how this might shape the city's recovery for the future. reporter: long lines for as far as you can see outside the game developers conference 2023 and san francisco. in fact, this line is what it has looked like for two straight days. >> it feels big. when i was standing in the long line trying to get my badge, i was like that's a lot of people here. >> today i stood in line for 90 minutes to get my badge in the morning and i missed my talk. it's more crowded. people are coming back. reporter: crowds of people in the city by the basement goni center monday are no pigment of the imagination. last year, this conference saw 17,000 participants according to the san francisco travel

association. this year, more than 24,000 people are expected. >> let people ask are you coming let's meet. eai'm coming. er: while that is great news for a city that has been slow to recover from the pandemic, many say we are not yet where we need to be. >> we are not at pre-pandemic especially for regular business, but i do feel like convention business is getting stronger and stronger and stronger as we go. >>'s office workers, tourists, and conference activity. without all three you can't have a full san francisco downtown recovery. reporter: i talked with several people at the game developers conference with told me they had never been to san francisco and never walked the streets here in san francisco but they did not think twice about it. >> i think san francisco is such a beautiful city, and i am from canada, so this is my first time in the u.s.. i feel so safe here and very welcome. reporter: those some of the many positive words heard about san francisco on monday.

for the western states petroleum association. >> the message as governor sent to the market about investing in the state, about the long-term prospects for maintaining refineries and those sorts of things are troubling at best. reporter: he says producing oil and gas in the state is harder here than anywhere else in america. he points to the state high gas taxes as well as other regulations and fees that ultimately lead to higher prices at the pump. >> california is isolated when it comes to the energy market. we do not have pipelines of crude and products coming from other states. what we don't produce here we shipped in from overseas. reporter: somewhat like severn bornstein of uc berkeley's energy institute support the governors announcement. he believes the extra cost goes beyond suppose regulations and that californians are still paying unfairly high gas prices. >> until 2015, our difference from the rest of the country was pretty much explained by that differential in taxes and environmental costs. since then, we have been paying

an extra $.40 a gallon on average, and in total, that has amounted to about $48 billion. reporter: don't expect any relief at the pump anytime soon. bornstein said it could take months or years before any potential investigation happens. for now, it looks like the higher gas prices could be here to stay. >> in the long run, the extra amount we have been paying is really taking a lots of money out of the pockets of drivers. reporter: in san francisco, tim johns, abc7news. dan: important changes coming that may make you feel safer. as of today, it is doubling the police presence on trains and stations. there have been a number of safety issues that we have covered extensively. newport data shows people are getting their phones and computers stolen even as recently as thursday we brought you breaking news that the arrow station had two writers who got into a fight and one pulled out a gun and pistol whipped the other. the gun went off in one person was hurt. >> to increase our presence we

are removing seven of our traditional vehicle patrols per shift and redeploying those officers inside trains, which also includes our k-9 unit. bar is hoping to not only make the system safer but more efficient in the process. it could be facing bankruptcy or even a full station shut down if it does not increase driver safety. people has that people have been staying away because of safety concerns. ama: new developments in the driverless cruise taxis you may have been seeing around. dan: the company wants to expand to all of california. the autonomous vehicle division of general motors asked permission from california's dmv today. ama: right now cruise is only operating in the headquarters of san francisco after two years of testing, but there have been issues. back in december, abc7 covered a story about cruise car stopped at a green light blocking traffic. that was until a technician arrived. >> people were honking and

eventually went around. they realized one after the other there is no one in this car no one to honk at. dan: if approved, it would only test drive the vehicles with its own employees inside and only going up 55 miles per hour. ama: in the east bay a story of community that decided to lend a helping hand owners of my goodness ice cream by lake merritt in in oakland shared an instagram video about two customers who helped fix his ice cream machine. >> the ice cream machine is broken. he said what is going on? do you need help? i needed a part. he said you want to jump on my card and will go get it? we all jumped in and went to o'reilly's and got the thing that i needed and i said are you guys hungry? we went and got some burgers and got back to work on the machine. ama: the ice cream machines motor caused breakdown, but the same day it went out, two of his regular customers came in and offered to help.

they spent hours working on it even with a few trips to the store and a meal break for burgers like you mentioned. they eventually got machine up and running. >> the willingness for them to jump right in and help was phenomenal. it saved my day and week. it allowed me to serve every other customer that week. ama: i bet they were happy. he said it happened a couple of months ago but he decided to share the story last week as a thank you. if men received a gift certificate to the ice cream shop. dan: well-deserved. what a sweet story. pun intended. ama: let's wish to weather. dan: meteorologist sandhya patel tracking the storm. she is on the roof with the forecast. sandhya: up here it is really calm right now but it is cloudy as the spring storm is headed our way. 2:24 p.m.. i want to show you live doppler 7 because the storm is getting closer to the bay area. we are starting to see rain

bands moving into southern california. they will get slammed tomorrow. we here in the bay area will see our share of rain and wind. let's get to storm concerns. minor flooding on the roadways, downed trees and outages high likelihood. streams of flooding high. low potential for reverse flooding. this is the second snowiest season for the sierra on record surpassing 1982, 19 83, the snowiest on record according to the central sierra snow lab was back in 1952. this season 2022-2023 we have seen 56.4 feet of snow and with more snow coming, it could be headed towards even higher rank there. statewide snowpack is that two to 5% of average, definitely one for the history books. we look at live doppler 7 right now and it is cloudy across the bay area. those temperatures are in the 40's and 50's. they will not fall a lot heading

towards tomorrow morning. we are seeing clouds gathering over san francisco. at the spring storm arrives during the morning commute. scattered showers continue wednesday. temperatures will remain below average for the rest of the work week just like we saw today. the storm impact scale -- scale this is a level two appeared rain heavy at times and winds will be gusty, strongest over the hills and potentially damaging. isolated funder chance will show up especially in the afternoon and evening. tomorrow morning's commute will be messy. 5:00-8:00 a.m. light to moderate rain with brief pockets of heavy rain. it will turn to scattered showers for the afternoon. still, rain bands moving in for the evening hours. evening commute could be challenging as well. in hamilton wednesday there could be a mix of rain and snow showers as we head towards wednesday night. the system winds down and rainfall projections .5 inches to almost two inches. at some mountains will pick up
