here to celebrate none other than finola hughes. it is so -- this is a treat. i was telling you at the break, i back in the day. >> yes. >> would rearrange my class schedule in college so i wouldn't miss "general hospital." >> you know, i hear that so much from people. they used to just -- because it was on at 3:00 and so they would arrange classes around that. >> what is it about "general hospital"? what do you think that keeps us so invested? >> well, i really think that it's because we come into your homes five days a week, so there's a real camaraderie between the, you know, cast and people that watch, and then i also feel like we deal with social issues and we also have a lot of fantasies so you can kind of pick what you love about the show. and now, you know, in particular like talking about fantasy things right now we're dealing with the ice princess, which is a real call back to the '80s, and yet at the same time we just did a big alzheimer's story,
8:40 am
which we won emmys for, and we obviously dealt with hiv/aids which is why we have the nurses ball which is back for the first time in three years. >> that's beautiful. >> yes. >> it's so true and in some ways you were ahead of the rest of us in discussing some of these issues and doing it in that manner. you've been doing it for four decades. >> 60 years, no. >> but there's so much dialogue. >> oh, my gosh. >> you have the script. this is -- >> yes, but i was learning lines during the break myself. >> you memorize everything. >> yeah, there's like almost 80 pages here. >> ooh. >> and we're going to do -- it's not all in one day but it's two days so we'll shoot three shows on -- tomorrow and then two shows the next day. >> how do you memorize all that? >> i don't know. i think you sort of get like, you know, a little muscle in your memory that kind of just

8:42 am
and there are maniacs out there. >> yes. >> what do fans say to you? >> they make gifs, i think. is that what they're called, memes, and a lot of videos they put together for us and, you know, we struck a chord. i think we're just -- we just were the right couple at the right time kind of sophisticated and ex-spies and -- >> a little bit of everything. >> yeah, yeah. it's like, you know, like spy, sure, just your average. >> with an alien. >> in my garage. >> you are a sheer delight. thank you. >> you are too. i can't tell you what a treat it is to do this with you. >> that means a lot. we want to let everybody know "general hospital" airs, i think, if they don't know weekdays on abc. special anniversary programming kicks off on march 29th. >> yes, we're honoring our beautiful sonya eddie who passed away and so we're -- that's how
