the sun is coming up. you are beginning to see how does this destruction and devastation is. every industrial building has been wiped off. every car completely destroyed or flipped over and then every home on this block also destroyed. some of this debris is so compact, they have to bring in heavy equipment to find any survivors that may still be here. this is the largest system that continues its trek across the country. this morning, over 20 dead after this massive and violent tornado strikes western mississippi. leaving the towns of silver city and golden fork in ruin. >> a big tornado! do you see it? take cover immediately! >> rob: video shows storm chasing. as fears brains help their vehicle. >> slowed down. back it up.

>> rob: the tornado's deadly path stretching over 19 miles. homes torn apart. businesses left in ruin. debris strewn everywhere. a dangerous power lines fallen across roads. the power out nearly everyone. >> complete and utter devastation. trees up. i have seen several areas were part of the asphalt had been jacked up from the ground. just complete devasta >> rob: searching through all the rubble, looking for any survivors who may still be trapped inside. in central mississippi, the storm there tearing off groups, residents runnin for cover. >> we got to get ourselves into the middle part of the the hous, and we did. as soon as we got in there, we heard a big boom. >> rob: switching to eastern mississippi. >> we got major damage. >> rob: leaving all this in its wake, trees own, homes damaged, lives destroyed.

on top of the fatalities, dozens of people have been injured. there are still some missing. i can tell you that the sadness of what has happened here hangs in the air the way they are going to balance their recovery and rescue efforts is quite efficient. certainly somber. guys? >> thank you so much. joining us from mississippi is a storm chaser edgar o'neill. you are in rolling fork last night, what did you see there. >> complete and utter devastation. i mean, haus is going to get stations destroyed, trees, power lines blocking entrances everywhere, stray animals, people wanderng the streets clearly in shock. we saw a lot offirst responders as well, just lots of people out there helping. police, fire, rescue, other storm chasers. there are a lot of people on the ground helping. >> and edgar, you were telling me you were chasing terms for a decade now and you say this is the was -- one of the earth you have seen.

continues eastward. take a look at the power it carries with it. 13 tornado reports between mississippi and alabama and the green dots denoting the flood watches and warnings. so what is coming up next? this continues to move towards the east. along the i-95 corridor into the ohio valley, we have got height with alerts that we are expecting. up into the great lakes and northeast. we could actually see wintry weather. here is a look at some of the snowfall totals. anywhere from six to 10 inches possible. even up into the green and white mountains. and up in towards maine. a lot more to go. > we will check back in with you. >> turn to escalating conflict in syria. new attacks following a drone strikes in syria that killed at least one american and left others injured. the u.s. lodging its own airstrikes in retaliation. alex presha is at the white house with more. good morning.

>> reporter: that is right. we have seen a string of attacks over the last 48 hours. the u.s. says it has toast does not seek war with iran but it will forcefully protect its troops. two new attacks on u.s. bases in eastern syria. u.s. officials telling abc news five rockets were fired and one facility injuring a u.s. service member. and the other tech controls targeted the facility. two out of three were shot down. the latest incidents make four attacks on u.s. forces in syria in just 36 hours. at least one of them deadly. the u.s. heading back using f-15s to destroyed two iranian backed facilities housing drones and vehicles in syria. >> president biden: the united states does not emphasize seek conflict with iran. but be prepard for us to protect our people. that is exactly what happened last night. >> alex: iran has called the targets civilian points and sing it led to the death of seven

martyrs. u.s. officials saying iranian drug carrying explosives detonated at a user -- u.s. base in north eastern syria, killing an american contractor, the first time an american has been killed in syria by a drone attack. officials saying these incidents have almost become a regular occurrence. nearly 80 rocket or drone attacks by iranian back proxies in the last two years. today, there were 100 u.s. service -- service members and many more contractors to the defeat of isis. in the case of the latest a u.s. base attacked by a drone in syria, one of the three -- there were no injuries reported. this morning there are concerns as to how that happened. they are reviewing the incident. >> and that review is critical. security is tight this morning after authorities say deficits were arrayed against the d.a. investigating former president trump. abc's phil joins us with more.

and get to the bottom of what happened. janay? >> the u.s. and canada announcing a new agreement on migration. abc's -- is here with the details. good morning. >> good morning. the agreement went who are. just after midnight and it is meant to discourage illegal border crossings. president biden and canadian prime minister justin trudeau have been under immense pressure to addressed the influx of migrants. states have repeatedly called on the biden administration to do something. and canada has been pushing for stricter measures after nearly 40,000 migrants used an official entry points primarily the road to across from new york state into comeback last year. as part of the agreement, canada will take in 15,000 refugees from latin america and the caribbean. over the course of the next year. which the biden administration is hoping that will relieve some of the pressure of the u.s. southern border.

up. we have a busy morning. let's look at the top headlines we are following right now. the death toll rising following a brutal line of tornadoes that ripped through the south overnight. at least 23 people are now dead this morning as search and rescue operations are underway in mississippi. one of those tornadoes tore a deadly path over about 90 miles leaving homes and businesses torn apart. >> also right now, a federal judge rejecting former president trump attempted to block the testimony of several of his top aides including mark meadows in the special counsel's investigation into his actions leading up to january 6th. trump's attorneys had challenged the subpoenas by asserting executive privilege. they are now expected to appeal the judge's orders. >> janai: amazing video. a good samaritan scaling the site of a burning building in brooklyn, new york, to save three children. the hero who has been nicknamed spider-man. helped grab the kids from their father through an open window. they range in age from three

months to four years old. not all heroes wear capes. inspectors incredible story. we are going to start this half hour with gwyneth paltrow taking the stand. the oscar-winning actress being sued by a man who says she crashed into him on a ski slope. she is giving her version of the events and abc's zohreen shah has more. good morning. >> reporter: this was a big moment in court yesterday for the oscar-winning actress and wellness group or gwyneth paltrow in her own words fiercely defending herself and there were moments where it got heated. this morning, christian business entrepreneur gwyneth paltrow taking the stand, making her case that a ski collision that left a man severely injured in. city, utah, eight years ago was not her fault. >> i said you skied directly into my league back and he said, oh, sorry, sorry, i'm sorry. mr. sanderson categorically hit

me on that ski slope and that is the truth. >> zohreen: terry sanderson is suing paltrow for $300,000 accusing her of violently crashing into him, leaving him with four broken ribs, a concussion, and a brain injury. paltrow's calendar suing for one dollar and attorney fees, both claim the other it was at fault. paltrow told the jurors she was confused with the crash happened and that she thought for a split second maybe it was a prank or even sexual >> forcing my legs apart and then there was a body pressing against me. i thought, am i -- is this a practical joke? is someone doing something provided? >> zohreen: the plaintiff's lawyers pressed paltrow that she was distracted. >> your son was saying, mommy, mommy, watch me. that is who you were watching,

right? >> zohreen: but sanderson's lawyers claim after the accident he is completely change. at one point, his daughter is shaken, emotional. >> my daddy used to be a good listener. since the accident, his brain has not -- to work so hard at work he is going to say next. >> zohreen: there were other far post also fireworks. the judge has to step in multiple times after he claims that paltrow lied under oath. >> she has lied under oath a number of times and i want to be able to show the jury. >> do you want to read phrase that? >> yes, absolutely. she has made prior inconsistent statements during her deposi deposition. >> zohreen: under surtain's moment was over -- over's paltrow's lawsuit including a large sum of money for her lawyers fees. the crowd resumes on monday and

paltrow's children and husband are expected to testify. guys. >> janai: all right, zohreen, thank you. joining us is shawnna lloyd. thank you for being with us. how do you think paltrow's testimony went on the stand? >> she did a great job on the stands and she stuck to the facts. she did not allow the plaintiff's attorney to provoke her into an emotional response which is really good whenever you take the stand. >> janai: we heard from terry sanderson's daughter who was talking about his injuries and how he has changed after the accident. how effective was her testimony and talked to us more about of the emotions that you said, why that could be important to not show so much? >> absolutely. when sanderson's daughter told the stanco not only was she emotional because she was extremely combative with the defense attorney which typically does not come off well to victory. to read wants to hear the facts. they want to know what you know and what you are expected to test tell them.

when you get competitive with the attorneys, doesn't usually bode well with the jury. >> janai: what can we expect from terry sanderson? he is suing paltrow and that e-mail that he sent to his daughters that lawyers have said where he says, i'm famous >> channa: that is he going to did not play well with victory. they want to know that you have suffered these injuries that you are claiming that you have, the traumatic brain injury, the personality changes, that e-mail flies in the face of that. it seems more as though this may be a frivolous lawsuit. that is going to be hard for him to come back. the only thing he can do is take the stand to address that. >> channa: as we just -- >> janai: as we heard about the issue with gwyneth paltrow, as -- if kerry sanders loses, it is going to be much more than that. what do you make of that argument? >> channa: it is very standard in all of these cases when we have a prevailing party.

they are typically eight entitled to attorneys fees. what they are tran19 highlight is she is going for this additional money but it is typically required by the statute if it is allowed and it is often expected in a case of this type. >> janai: do you think she needed to testify, shawnna? >> channa: absolutely. she needed to give her points of view. she needed to state her case. it is very important in case like this when it is two individuals that were present for an instant the juries want to hear what they have to say it. >> janai: because there's so much he said she said. jared lloyd, thank you. >> gio: an interesting case. to get back to somara theodore and spring, a mixed bag. severe weather in many cases. >> somara: severe weather in the southeast. especially as we head into tomorrow. we got snow. is no, out west. and we are not talking california this time. portland, oregon, average glasnow fault this is just yesterday. and the thing is, this comes in
