nhl hockey. speaking of warming centers, here is a live look outside, where it is a clear day, but it is going to be cold tonight. we have spencer standing by on our forecast and just how low we go. spencer: it is going to be pretty cold just about everywhere. area. 30's in the coldest spots. the frost advisory is in effect until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, and we may have one for monday morning as well. overnight, skies will be clear. when skies are that clear at this time of the year, temperatures drop quite low. at night, 36 in napa, 36 in carpenter, 36 at morgan hill, and only upper 30's right around the bay shoreline, except for any degrees at -- 40 degrees at

oakland and san francisco. after we get acclimated to the cold, we have a storm coming next week, and i will tell you about that in my forecast later. kumasi: spencer -- dion: spencer, thanks. warming centers are open in santa clara county. several county libraries, including the one in cupertino, are now open for shelter. volunteers handed out information about the centers for people who need a place to stay. they also handed out blankets, ponchos, and even tarps to house people in encampments. sonoma county is also opening several warming centers. people looking to avoid freezing temperatures can go to the west county community services building. long exposure to freezing temperatures can lead to hypothermia. always a reminder to keep up with the changing weather, you can access the same live doppler 7 already is is on demand on the

-- already uses on demand on the abc 7 bay area news app. storm damage from tuesday's epic bomb cyclone is still being tallied. in the east bay, a massive cleanup is planned after several ancient trees and dozens of plants were destroyed at the uc botanical garden. cornell barnard spoke with the garden's director about what was lost. >> the people on this se ound. reer: lthe st lt inse both scope of the damage is extensive. >> it is quite massive and is dramatically damaged. reporter: this beloved redwood tree, taking on a picnic table in portions of the bamboo growth. >> when it fell, it snapped off and took out that portion. reporter: more than 50 rare

plants were also destroyed. one of the biggest losses is this california buckeye tree, planted more than 150 years ago, completely crushed by the age of the redwood -- the weight of the redwood tree. it is almost impossible to emplace. >> a california native, a tree people are sad to see disappear. reporter: staff members held a memorial this week to honor the fallen trees. >> the garden where the tree fell is dramatically changed. it was in a condition where we had to close it to the public. reporter: feldman says the redwood was one of three trees with only one trunk. >> the tree is probably so dangerous now as far as its structure that we have to take the whole tree down. reporter: the cleanup bill could top $50,000, but l not expect the university of california to pay, so donations from the public may be the only way to move forward. >> t oor

we are in the tornado right now. >> wesley jackson to this video as he was in the tornado and captured some of the devastation. storm chaser emeryville was in rolling fork. >> we saw complete and utter devastation. houses gone, gas stations destroyed. trees, power lines blocking entrances everywhere. stray animals, people wandering the streets clearly in shock. this was one of the words we have seen. reporter: first responders looking for any survivors that may still be trapped. in central mississippi, the storm tearing off groups as residents ran for cover. >> we tried to get ourselves into the middle part of the house. we did. it was coming right behind us. we heard a big boom. reporter: devastation stretching to the eastern part of the state. >> we've got major damage. royed.er:

governor tate reeves has issued a state of emergency in all counties affected by the a storms statement saying he and the first lady are praying for those impacted, assuring residents, writing, "we will be there as long as it takes." the president says fema has deployed emergency resources to support recovery efforts in the affected areas. dion:body of a seven-year-old -- divers have recovered the body of a seven-year-old who drowned this week at a beach in madurai county. a three-year-old told them his brother and mother were missing in the water. the mother's body was recovered. divers found the body of the seven-year-old just before noon today. one man is dead and two are under arrest after a shooting this morning at a popular casino in lake tahoe. deputies were called to the hard rock hotel and casino at about 8:00 a.m., along the

california-nevada border. three men were in a casino bar together and an argument broke out before the shooting. that casino was locked down, with visitors ordered to shelter-in-place while police searched for the gunman. he and the other man were arrested about 20 miles from the scene. a special tribute to a former member of the uc berkeley rowing team, following her death in a biking accident. sean o'donnell was biking to work at the state department in d.c. when she was hit by a truck. the rowing team raised $50,000 to create a custom boat in her name. today was christened. organizers and the boat will be used totter o'donnell in future rowing races. one of her former teammates and friend became emotional when talking about her. >> part of me still feels like she is here. i remember she is not with us every once in a while.

dion: a special celebration parking the 120 for the anniversary of wong kim arc day in san francisco's chinatown. the event featured descendants of wong kim ark. elected leaders and prominent chinese-american community members spoke today. wong kim ark francisco in the 1870's, and after a trip outside the country, he was denied reentry to the u.s.. his case was taken all the way to the u.s. supreme court, which ruled the 14th amendment guarantees birthright citizenship to all born in the west -- in the u.s. i was so honored to bmc this morning. thank you so much.

today, families celebrated national vietnam war veterans day in alameda. what a spectacular site. this afternoon, a memorial squadron conducted a flyover at the event on the uss hornet. organizers gave pins to the vietnam war vets to show appreciation for their service. there was also a ceremony remembering those who lost their lives. the event was held ahead of the actual vietnam war veterans day, which is on march 29. tonight, ok sue is hosting its 20th annual hope gala in san francisco. it is a nonprofit that works to support families with childhood cancer. people will come together to show support for families as some children get ready for summer camp this year. >> the beauty of camp is that we bring together a community that is going through the same thing. folks are not alone. at camp, everyone knows how

blue s orve gate, 60 degrees in santa rosa, 59 in novato, 64 at fairfield. that is our warm spot. 58 at livermore. blue sky over most of the bay area from this view from mount tam an. the next form that arrives monday evening will be a level 1 storm, but intensifying to a level two by tuesday. here is a look at our forecast animation overnight. we have clear skies. temperatures will be dropping to 34 in santa rosa. 38 in vallejo, 39 in san rafael. san jose will drop down to 39 degrees. 36 in morgan hill. with temperatures dropping that low, we have a frost advisory in effect for virtually all of the bay area away from the shoreline and coast. the lowest locations will be in the low to mid 30's.

the frost advisory is in effect until 9:00 tomorrow morning. tomorrow morning pleasant and dry with highs ranging from low 50's at the coast to upper 50's around the bay shoreline and close to 60's inland. skipping ahead to monday evening , that is when the next storm will come in, arriving first with light to moderate rain as a level 1 storm, but intensifying overnight to level two storm, producing windy and rainy conditions for most of the day on tuesday. it will start to weaken a bit with just scattered showers on wednesday, and it will be just about out of here on thursday. we've got a stormy beginning of the week coming our way. level 1 storm on monday morning may be just as chilly as tomorrow morning, so we've got the thermometer up again. on tuesday, level two storm with rainy, windy conditions. drying out or beginning to dry out on thursday. sunny skies going into the beginning of next weekend. >> now abc 7 sports with chris
