in the upper 30's from santa rosa. 47 at alameda. three degrees colder in hayward with four degrees cooling in santa rosa compared yesterday. it is chilly. the sun is coming up at 655 time. we will see -- 6:55. upper 50's. the clouds will thicken in the north bay. in the south bay it will be in the low 60's. a x of clouds and sun for most. we will talk about when we warm up in my extended outlook in a few minutes. liz: thank you. the open police department has opened an investigation into the confrontation between a los angeles angels player and oakland haze fan. this happened after thursday's game at the oakland coliseum. police evidence in their investigation it appears to show. anthony rendon grabbing a fan by his shirt and attempting to hit

him after the fan said something. major league baseball officials said they are investigating the incident. police say the fan has not made a formal report about the interaction. questions continue about a longtime employee of the san jose police officers association who faces charges for an alleged drug scheme, including importing fentanyl. joanne segovia authorities houre her court appearance on friday. investigators say she imported illegal synthetic opioids from overseas, including a former fentanyl. it was part of a scheme to distribute the drugs throughout the u.s. the police officers association says they were not aware of the situation. >> we are in the midst of our internal investigation. we want to make sure we are being thorough as we look back through all the things we have learned through the federal investigation. liz: investigators say dozens of

shipments were sent to segovia's home in 2015. she was released from custody and is expected to appear in court in late april. we will keep you updated. new developments this morning. police say two gang members are responsible for a double murder at an airbnb party in north oakland. police believe the suspects are a part of the northen they were booked into juvenile hall because they were 17 at the time of the shooting. at least nine people have died from a storm system that is ripping through the south and midwest. they brought deadly tornadoes that wrecked homes and businesses. the storm is on the move, heading east. derek dennis has the latest. dere throughout the nation's midsection.

officials in arkansas confirming several deaths and more than 50 people in the laskey county hospitalized. the town of wynn hit particularly hard. >> there are no words. we can't say nothing. this has never happened to here like this. >> it is real scary. all the people that way, we don't know if they are ok or not. reporter: governor sarah huckabee sanders declaring a state of emergency. >> we activated arkansas's national guard and we have 100 guardsmen on the ground. derek: more damage in west little rock where both commercial buildings and homes have been destroyed. cars flipped over, leaving downed trees and power lines. a meteorologist on the air reacting to the damage as they provided live reports. >> we have friends and family affected by this. there homes of been destroyed. if there is hesitation, we are trying to keep composure. derek: the storms hit further north.

a shelter-in-place at o'hare international airport in chicago. a theater roof collapsed in belvidere, illinois during a concert with roughly 260 people inside. >> there were multiple injuries. there was a fatality. there was 28 persons transported by ambulance from here. derek: at least 43 tornadoes reported in six states, including this one near harper, iowa. >> advise me if i'm going to hit anything. the my eyes. derek: the system moving east with severe conditions possible for major cities, including philadelphia, new york and boston. derek dennis, abc news, new york. liz: caltrans has scheduled repairs for interstate 680 and solano county near the gold hill road exit in fairfield. starting on monday, they will close the far right side of southbound 680 which sustained storm damage.

it will be closed each night through friday from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the next morning. this look shows that heavy damage to an access road next to 680. the road is impassable now but beneath that there is a damaged water line that provides water to venetia residents. bart's track improvement process starts this weekend. they are said to replace an interlocking section of track between rockbridge and orinda stations. it is decades old and has outlived its design life. the project runs five not consecutive weekends, this weekend being the first. three buses will replace train service between rockbridge and durant a stations all five weekends -- orenda stations five weekends. mail theft is rising. it's happening everywhere. thieves stealing checks, credit cards, packages. what can you do to make sure no one steals it? that is what tim johns found out.

>> definitely. it has gotten more frequent. tim: mail theft has been a constant worry ever since he moved into his neighborhood. >> our mailbox has been broken intended 15 times in the last couple years. tim: he says he's oftentimes come home to find the doors on his mailbox either broken into or tampered with. he's not alone. the postal service is mail theft and mail carrier robberies have risen broadly in recent years. our media partners the san francisco standard reports robbery cases rose from 94 in 2018 to 253 in 2021. >> some of been at gunpoint and i foot. tim: jeff finch says mail theft is a fellow crime and something the usps takes seriously. >> inspectors respond to the scene. we do neighborhood canvases. we knock on the doors. we talked to residents. we talk to businesses.

we request videos. tim: oftentimes the thieves are looking for personal information like banking details or credit card numbers, a scary thought for jones. >> important checks and things, pay stubs, etc. that are stolen. tim: the mailbox has been broken in so many times his mill person does not even bother using it anymore. officials say reporting any theft and sharing potential evidence helps them catch those responsible. jones says he wishes more could be done. >> either installing a mailbox slot on the garage door itself or in the gate that maybe is more secure. tim: tim johns, abc 7 news. liz: in the north bay we can see a couple of teacher strikes. bennett valley union district in santa rosa could see teachers walk out if there's not an agreement reached next week. teachers are upset with wages. they are the lowest of all the school districts in santa rosa. officials say they put as much

money towards salaries -- they want to put as much money towards salaries as possible. and san rafael, elementary schools teachers have authorized strike. they will walk out if there is no contract agreement after a state assigned fact-finding process this spring. one of the main sticking point is wages. to mark cesar chavez day on fr together rm has many rs.the srmeason laurenarnentce us to a family trying to get by in the eight available. lauren: farmworkers are to recover from the january storms. maria nunez owns a family farm in gilroy. two out of her eight acres were completely flooded, including her home. >> [speaking spanish] lauren: she says her goal is to find a long-term home for her

family. they were staying at hotel and most recently moved into a rental supported by santa clara county. >> [speaking spanish] lauren: she says right now she's harvesting on the six acres that were not damaged by water. they are selling their fruits and vegetables in napa, morgan hill and martinez farmers markets. >> this is where they were, where they live, where agriculture is. there is no place for them to go. lauren: farmworker caribbean is providing aid. the founder says she understands federal aid takes a while but the need is now. >> that's a lot of red tape that takes a lot of time. they are hungry today. lauren: earlier we saw volunteers with second harvest cruz go door-to-door. next wednesday, the nonprofit organization a loss will bring their mobile resource center to help with the mental health needs. >> it was the lead

the former president is likely to travel to new york on monday. he's expected to appear in court on tuesday in what is likely to be around two dozen counts. it is related to an alleged hush money scheme. his lawyers says he plans to plead not guilty and will fight the charges. >> this is unprecedented in this country's history. i don't know what to expect other than an arraignment. >> the assumption is there is a felony charge in the indictment. his business records crimes can be bumped up to a felony if it's committed in order to further another crime. liz: the investigation by manhattan district attorney alvin bragg folk cyst that focused on a payment to stormy daniels to cover up an affair. the question is if it was to avoid negative publicity that could have caused him the -- cost him the 2016 election. antioch city leaders are working to beople ice

needs to be done to address police staffing shortages. the mayor spoke about it on thursday. >> my goal is to inform the public what is happening in terms of office sleep a lower level of policing staff. that will have an impact on the service level. unser: for years the city has been trying to recruit officers. last a signing bonus to attract some experienced officers from other jurisdictions. there are other incentives like a down payment assistance program for officers who buy in antioch. >> that is had a huge impact on recruitment efforts. applications went up by 44%. unser: testing was underway for new police training on friday. the department is under investigation with more than eight officers currently on leave. some residents say they feel vulnerable. >> i see a lot of people take off running or breaking into cars. where is the police when you

[applause] liz: many high school walked out of class on friday an issue of the solidarity for trans day of visibility. advocates say it's an opportunity for people to show support and who they really are. san francisco held a celebration friday night.in san rafael, tras and allies took to the streets. as abc 7 reported tara campbell reports, they fight for the right to be who exactly are. >> transgender under attack. what do we do?

>> a battle cry from kids. >> it's getting tiring to have to see the same thing and the same rhetoric all across the country. tara: they are talking about the hundreds of anti-lgbtq+ bills that have been introduced across the u.s. many of them aimed at transgender youth. from banning gender affirming care to restrictions on name changes. >> i know a couple of people who were not able to come today because they have seen all this hatred around the country. they did not feel safe. tara: they say the fear is understandable. >> it makes a lot of sense because the things we see around us are not safe. we are not safe in a lot of situations. >> it is ultimately terrifying. i'm scared for other people. tara: 12-year-old eddie feels fortunate to live in california where he still has rights. he says he feels fear. >> i feel unsafe in this area. i'm still scared even though i'm so grateful to be here.

see the advance of that system that could allow for sprinkles into your sunday. we start the workweek pretty chilly. if we add up the rainfall totals into your early monday morning, if we see anything at all it should be a little bit of wet pavement. the winds will be with us into your sunday afternoon. look at 11:00. 20 to 25 miles per hour. as we get through sunday afternoon they really get cranking. this will add to a cooler field to the second half of the weekend despite some sunshine. where should we be this time of year? in the north bay in the upper 60's. low 60's. the coolest day looking to be monday and tuesday with the winds picking up. into the second half of the workweek, thursday and friday, mid to upper 60's for the rest of the bay area. we will be enjoying some nice springlike weather. notice the southbay pretty wild

hospital in rome. he stopped to speak to a crowd and signed a boy's cast and hugged a couple whose daughter had just died at the hospital. the visit came ahead of holy week, the busiest week for christian events and ceremonies leading up to easter. some are opting for plastic eggs instead of dying real ones. egg prices remain high. the cost has dropped but the prices are high enough to make a notable impact on consumers. prices hit their peak in january and choppers are still hopeful prices keep going back down soon. prices shot up due to short supply caused by the avian flu and multiple other factors that have contributed as well. moderate drinking is not good for your health. that's according to research being done in britain that examined medical data of nearly 400,000 p people. it is one of the biggest studies ever done on the topic.

test. there's a push to know financial literacy. senior education reporter leah melendez has more on what state schools chief tony thurman is doing to require it in high school. leah: berkeley high is one of few teaching seniors had a navigate the financial world. this personal finance class is an elective or students must sign up. >> is buying a lot of ticket gambling? >> yes. >> this is what we see. passionate educators who make the first step and start an elective course. leah: crystal wrigley designed the course that has been teaching it for the past four years. it is not a mandated course. while 18 states require students to take a personal finance class, california does not. only 27% of high schools in the state offer it as an elective. >> assembly bill 984 once every

it will be cool again to start the work week. when is spring arriving. it will get here the second half of the upcoming work week. we look at the clouds throughout the day and they will be increasing from cloverdale, santa rosa, up through occidental and along the coast. notice the rest of the bay area kind of nice. as we go through sunday, here comes that cold air mass. the other piece of energy that may bring sprinkles this weekend and the sunday afternoon. the second half of sunday will also be windy. we are looking at conditions to keep us in that same cooler than average pattern as we have a trough on the west coast. evtually high-pressure will replace that. we will see warmer conditions. as we look at the rainfall estimates for early monday, nothing to write home about. i wouldn't cancel plans but it will be on the cool side and breezy side as we get through sunday afternoon.
