increasing clouds two to four degrees colder and as we get through the day partly cloudy to start out and then as we go through the afternoon, it's mild in the south bay and east bay low 60s north pages up for 50s increasing clouds, maybe a sprinkle. we're getting into a windy sunday. a wendy start to the week and i did promise some warmer weather. we will pinpoint that liz in just a few minutes lisa. thank you. the oakland police department is opening investigation into the confrontation between los angeles angels player and in oakland a's fan. this happened after thursday's game at the oakland coliseum. on police say this viral video is evidence in their investigation. it appears to show angel's player anthony rendon grabbing a fan by his shirt and then attempting to hit him after the fan said something to rendon major league baseball officials say they're also investigating the incident police say the fan in the video has not made a formal report about the interaction. questions continue this morning

about a long time employee of the san jose police officers association who faces charges for an alleged drug scheme including importing importing fentanyl into the us joann segovia the executive director of the poa turned herself into authorities hours before her court appearance on friday federal investigators. say segovia imported illegals synthetic opioids from overseas, including a form of fentanyl. it was part of a scheme to distribute the drugs throughout the us. the police officers association says they were not aware of the situation. we are in the midst of our own internal investigation. we want to make sure that we're being thorough as we look back through all of the things that we've learned through the federal investigation. federal investigators say dozens of shipments were sent to segovia's home beginning in 2015. she was released from custody and is expected to appear in court again in late april. we will keep you updated on that meantime new developments this morning, please say two gang

members are responsible for a double murder to teenage brothers were shot and killed at an airbnb party. this happened last october in north oakland according to the east bay times. please believe the suspects are a part of the norteño gang authorities say both men were booked into juvenile hall since they were 17 at the time of the shooting. new overnight at least 10 people have now died from a monster storm system ripping through the south and midwest the storm system. ring is bringing deadly tornadoes that wrecked homes and businesses and it is still on the move headed east abc news reporter derek dennis has the latest w throughout the nation's midsection officials in arkansas confirming several deaths and more than 50 people in pulaski countyd theownarcularly har'm s. we can't say nothing. i just never happened down here

impact service on the yellow line this weekend starting tomorrow bar is set to replace an interlocking section of track between rock ridge and orinda stations. the equipment is decades old and is outlived. it's design life officials. say the project runs five non-consecutive weekends this weekend being the first free buses will replace train service between rock ridge in orinda stations on all five weekends. is your mail safe male theft is rising fast around the bay area. that is the warning this morning from the postal service. it's happening everywhere thieves stealing checks credit cards packages. but what can you do to make sure no one steals it that's what abc 7 news reporter. tim johns found out. oh, definitely. it's just gotten more frequent for san francisco. resident. read jones male theft has been a constant worry ever since he moved into his bernal heights neighborhood. our mailbox has been broken into about 10 to 15 times over the last probably two to three years jones says over the past year or so. he's oftentimes come home to

find the doors on his mailbox either broken into or tampered with and he's not alone the us postal service says mft carrier robberies have both risen broadly in recent years or media partner the san francisco standard reports. robbery cases rose from 94 in 2019 to 253 in 2021. some have been a gunpoint some of it at 9 point. jeff fitch is the postal inspector. he says male theft is a federal crime and something the usps takes very seriously postal factors respond to the scene. we do what we call neighborhood canvases. we knock on all the doors in the neighborhood. we talk to residents. we talked to businesses and we request fitch says oftentimes that thieves are looking for personal information like banking details or credit card numbers a scary thought for jones other important checks and things that pay stubs etc that are in there being stolen jones says that his mailbox has been broken into so many times that

these days his male person. doesn't even bother using it anymore postal officials say reporting any theft and sharing potential evidence helps them catch those responsible. but joan says he still wishes more could be done either installing a mailbox on the male box slot on the garage door itself or in in the gate. that maybe is a little more secure in san francisco johns abc 7 news. in the north bay, we could see a couple of teacher strikes bennett valley union school district, which is in santa rosa could see teachers walk out if there isn't an agreement reach next week teachers are upset with the wages and according to the union. they are the lowest. all the school districts in santa rosa district officials say they put as much money towards salaries as possible over in san rafael elementary school teachers have authorized a strike as well. according to the marin ij. they will walk out if there is no contract agreement after a state assisted fact-finding process this spring one of the main sticking points is wages.

to mark cesar chavez day on friday. we put together a spotlight on the bay area's farm workers our endless storm season has flooded farms and has many people struggling abc 7 news reporter. lauren martinez introduces us to one family trying to get by and the aid that is available farm workers are facing a slow recovery process from the damage caused by january storms, and i want to be mucho maria nunez owns a family-run farm in gilroy called pocoso farms two out of her eight acres were completely flooded including her homemadetha in contraria says her goal is to find a long-term home for her family of six. they were staying at a hotel and most recently moved into a rental supported by santa clara county via gracias a dios estos a channel. she said right now thank god. she's harvesting on the six acres that were not damaged by water nunez and her family are selling their fruits and vegetables at the napa morgan. bill and martinez farmers

markets. this is where they work. this is where they live. this is where agriculture is. there's no place for them to go pharmacare. caravan is one of the non-profits providing aid to farm workers. the founder said she understands federal aid takes a while, but the need is now that's a lot a lot of red tape that takes a lot a lot of time and they are hungry today earlier this week. we saw volunteers with second harvest food bank, santa cruz and pajado go door to door next wednesday the profit their mobile resource center to the farming community to help with the mental health needs all us was the lead agency for the half moon bay shootings, and they saw the great effect it had on the mental health of all these farm workers again. these farm workers have very daily stresses. it's these organizations these nonprofits. they're the ones that come in and help the people. so i called in february a security company notified dwayne gilliland around 6:30 am that someone was breaking into his restaurant in antioch. he was watching on surveillance camera at home the guys still in the restaurant. atching and walk around and they're like, i'm sorry. we don't have anybody available right now to come to the restaurant gilliland. who's the operations manager at hillcrest restaurant and tap house decided to go to the restaurant himself when he got there the suspect was gone. he says police showed up four hours later, you know work the backbone of the community small businesses and to be four hours after the response time when there was somebody actively in here when i was on the phone both with with the pd. it's discouraging an city leaders. say more needs to be done to address police staffing shortages, meryl lamar thorpe spoke about it on thursday. my goal here is to inform the public of what's happening. in terms of obviously lower level of policing staff. and so that's going to have an impact on our service level for years.

the city has been trying to recruit new officers last september city council approved a 30,000 signing bonus to attract some experience officers from other jurisdictions, and there are other incentives like a down payment assistance program for officers who buy an antioch that has had a a huge impact on our recruitment efforts interest have gone up by 55% the applications went up by 44% were sending on friday testing was underway for new police trainees, but the department is currently under an fbi in state investigation with more than eight officers currently on leave some residents say they feel vulnerable and i see a lot of people it's kind of sad gillilyn says city leadership has to do more. it doesn't help it when they constantly have situations happen internally and in the city that it's hard to recruit people to come to a place where there's a lot of strife in

antioch on abc 7 news. all right. many san francisco h students walked out of class on friday and a show of solidarity for trans day of visibility advocates say this is an opportunity for people to stand up and show their support as well as who they really are the city of san francisco also held a celebration on friday night at somarts gallery and in san rafael transgender kids and their allies took to the streets and as abc 7 news reporter tara campbell reports. they are ready to fight for who they are and the right for w trans rights are under attack. what do we do a battle cry from bay area transgender kids 16 year old. hope helping to lead the way it's getting really tiring to have to see the same thing and the same rhetoric all across the country. they're talking about the hundreds of anti-lgbtq+ bills

and as we look at the hour by hour forecast to notice that the clouds increase north of the oin aorgate throughout thebaooy feel and as getkiin up and there is some more precip that will slide to the south by late in the day. that's going to pick up the winds and then you can notice even in the sierra nevada getting into a little bit snow a little bit up snow into sunday and monday. here's a look at our rainfall estimates through early monday locally just a couple hundreds and as we look at the winds today at about 15 to 20 miles an hour at the coast, but throughout the day they'll continue to increase to over 30 miles an hour and then by the afternoon quite gusty no advisories yet, but as we get into monday and tuesday, it's certainly will feel blustery and that chance of snow continues in the mountains. so the wider view showing that we are just on the edge of that system into the weekend and then as we get into the first half of

police department will allow the community to register personal security cameras with pleased to help with investigations similar programs in the bay area have seen success but questions about privacy have also been raised abc 7 news reporter. justin dorsey has the story. when the crime scene tape goes up the investigation begins and now to help solve these crimes the san jose police department is enlisting the aid of the community the camera archive and mapping program or camp for short will greatly assist the san jose police department with finding new ways to fight crime the cam program allows people to register the locations of their personal security cameras with sjpd. so when a crime occurs officers can check their camera database map on their city cell phones and with the owners permission

police can use the footage for evidence in their investigation. i think the neighbors feel safer with these cameras a similar program called safer, san jose has outfit at homes with cameras and license plate readers registered with sjpd. one of the 300 cameras south of bernal road in san jose helped lead to the arrest of a man who broke into a mail truck in 2021 safer. sj president isa angelone says there have been many success stories were catching thieves. on a weekly basis whether burglar eye burglaries who actually was a homicide assaults, whatever it is still some worry about their privacy when it comes to police registered cameras privacy expert brian. hoefer says sjpd's protections in place regarding information and cancellation help ease some concerns, but hofer once cameron owners to know that terms allow for residents to not share video as well. please do sometimes go exploring into areas more than nationally allowed to and if people don't

financial literacy. our senior education reporter has more. reporter: berkeley high as one of the few schools in california teaching seniors how to navigate the financial world. this personal finance class is an elective where students all sign up. >> is buying a lottery ticket gambling? >> yes. reporter: you have passionate educators who make the first step. crystal ridley designed the course and has been teaching it for the past four years. it is not a mandated course. while c , california does not. in fact, only 27% of high schools in the state offer it as an elective. assembly bill 984 once every school to offer it as an elective by the 2025 school

liz: kids can do amazing things when we are not looking including going on a shopping spree. one shopper bought thousands of them goods. the five euro made the purchases from her mother's phone. >> you press the brown button. liz: simple as that. she bought $3000 worth of she bought herself 10 blue and pink bicycles, boots and a jeep. her mother had no clue until all of the packages started to arrive. jessica said after some convincing, amazon allowed her to return the items. they have to wait for the kids i jeep to arrive before they can send that one back. that is funny. a restless polar bear cub was spotted trying to cozy up with his mother.
