francisco, amanda del castillo, abc7news. kumasi: donald trump is remaining defiant, saying he is innocent. the allegation center on how he accounted for hush-money payments made a stormy daniels. prosecutors are accusing trump of a much broader scheme. jobina: prosecutors say trump orchestrated a criminal scheme known as catch and kill, buying and suppressing negative information to help boost his chance of winning the 2016 election. during a news conference, d.a. alvin bragg laid out the accusations. prosecutors believe trump paid hush money to at least three people, including stormy daniels , than falsify business records to hide the payments. trump's legal team is calling the indictment political prosecution. trump firing back during a speech held at mar-a-lago last night. >> the criminal is the district attorney because elite -- illegally leaked massive amounts

kumasi: an iconic part of san francisco's chinatown took a big hit during recent storms and other the community is asking for help. from a distance, these red lanterns on grand avenue seem to be fine. when you look closely you can see a lot of them got shredded during the intense rain and wind we have seen over the last months. the chinatown merchants association has launched a gofundme campaign to replace the lanterns. they also function as an extra layer of security. >> a lot of the residents like evening strolls. it could get really dark in the alleys and on the streets. the lanterns at a sense of safety because they are lit up at night. kumasi: it is not cheap. each strand of lanterns costs about $1000 and there are three blocks of them that need to be

replaced. they are iconic. san francisco's mayor has authorized an emergency declaration requiring inspections of buildings 15 stories or taller and built after 1998. this is because some of the windows were blown out during recent storms. building owners have to provide a licensed architect for engineers to ensure the safety and stability of all elements of the facade, including the windows. julian: crews are taking advantage of the mild conditions to trim trees around san francisco. this is hayes street closed between fillmore and steiner street. trees have come down this winter, particularly ficus trees. expect similar work in other parts of the city in the days and weeks ahead. kumasi: a four point five magnitude earthquake centered in hollister was felt in the bay area as far north of san francisco.

the shaking sent food and drinks crashing to the floor. one of the managers at hollister said yesterday's quake is a reminder we need to be prepared in case a bigger one is on the way. >> everything started falling. an earthquake, what do i do? it has been so long since we have had an earthquake. kumasi: workers at a nail salon told abc7news one of their customers ran outside when they felt that shaking. other stores were closed for the rest of the day as people were working to clean up the mass. julian: here's the thing. people who have the my shake app were not notified of the earthquake and they are wondering why. those who operate the app say they only send out the alerts to those people who feel shaking. ryan curry joining us live in the newsroom. folks understandably concerned. ryan: very much so.

kindly felt minor shaking and i did not receive an alert. that is because the usgs says those alerts are aimed at helping those most at danger from an earthquake. they say when there is a magnitude of 4.5 or higher those they notify are those who can feel the effect down to a level three. many told j.r. stone they did not receive the alert through the app. the less amount of shaking, the less likelihood of getting an alert. >> the basic currency of the shake alert system is time. the more alerts you want to deliver, it takes more time. ryan: he went on to are constantly looking to make the app better and more convenient but right now they want to focus on people who need it most. that is why places like gilroy received the alert but in san francisco a lot of us may not have. julian: thank you so much. you want to make sure you are

julian: johnson & johnson has agreed to pay nearly $9 billion to tens of thousands of people who claim its products like baby powder caused cancer. lawyers for the plaintiffs are calling it a victory in the legal fight that has lasted more than a decade. the proposed settlement would be paid out over 25 years through a subsidiary, which filed for bankruptcy to enable the billion-dollar trust. johnson & johnson says this does not mean it is guilty and reiterated its products are safe. at 6:00, san francisco safety board approved a pilot plan to install protected bikeway in the city. it will be on valencia street between 15th and 23rd street. drivers will be prohibited from making left and right turns. parking spaces will be removed.

joanne segovia. she turned herself in a allegedly importing drugs from overseas and distributing them throughout the country. federal investigators say for the past eight years segovia had 61 shipments of thousands of pills mailed to her home. she was using the police association account to do all of that. the police officers association says they had no idea she was doing this. news of segovia's actions have made headlines nationwide and shot many in her community. this is her neighbor. >> anyone who knows joann has said the same thing. i am stunned. cannot believe it is her. >> today's new conference will happen at 2:00 in front of the rotunda. : kids at one san francisco school will want to bring extra layers. a boiler at john o'connell high

school is broken and it could be days before it is fixed. yesterday students were seen bundled up trying to deal with the cold. official said the delay in fixing the boiler is because of a staffing shortage and highlights a bigger problem, aging infrastructure. a number of boilers in district buildings and schools have outlived their lifespan. >> $1.7 million was the amount found in the assessment. there are various upgrade school buildings need. we want to make sure students and staff are comfortable in classrooms and office spaces. we know someone is cold it makes it more difficult to learn and to teach. kumasi: a 10 year facilities master plan will be presented to the school board on april 25. if that is adopted voters will have to approve a bond member to fund the renovation project. julian: our never-ending stormy seas and has helped ski resorts in the lake tahoe reason breaks no total records. another round of snow -- of snow

kumasi: the police officers first on the scene at the deadly shooting in nashville are speaking about their experience. some of the officers had never met each other before but they formed a team and took down the shooter within minutes of arriving on scene. they described how that situation unfolded. >> not knowing what i was walking into. i went through that door with a purpose. >> kept walking towards the sound of gunfire. >> saw shell casings on the ground, bullet holes on the door. kumasi: police say they found more weapons and ammunition and a suicide note at the shooter's home. police have not identified a motive. julian: advocates are challenging stereotypes and misconceptions in the workplace to employ more people who have neurodivergent conditions.
