leaders say there is help thanks to a $30,000 donation from the rose pack foundation. some businesses will get a new security camera. >> they do not have to go through bureaucracy and they can easily install these cameras much faster. reporter: local leaders say the cameras will be a big help. >> it will help the police in identifying. reporter: others say the cameras will be a deterrent to criminals. >> when you walk in to chinatown we will be watching you. reporter: a lot of businesses already have security cameras but community leaders say the grant money will give more mom-and-pop businesses a chance to install better quality cameras outside their place. >> 80% of stores already have inside cameras. but only a

right now we are looking for a professional one outside. >> kathleen has several cameras inside her store. she and several other business owners have concerns. here. reporter: a bakery in chinatown sf has been broken into before. surveillance video captured it. >> we have two come to terms with -- the homeless, break the front glass of my store. it is better than nothing. we are looking at what is going on. dan: tonight we are learning more about 43-year-old bob lee, the tech executive who was killed in san francisco. there are no flowers near the spot on main street where he was found suffering from stab wounds at 2:30 yesterday morning.

stephanie sierra has been following the latest on the investigation and is live in the newsroom with more on the story. reporter: several stories confirm surveillance footage shows bob lee was walking down main street in san francisco's ring con hill area after this attack. he was looking for help before he fell to the ground on the sidewalk. we do not know what led to the stabbing but we are told lee was in town this week on business. reporter: tuesday morning. sources tell the abc 7 news i team surveillance footage shows bob lee, a high-profile tech executive, walking down the empty block of main street in san francisco's ring con hill neighborhood with apparent stab wounds. sources say they 43-year-old was looking for help and stumbled in front of port said, a nearby apartment building nestled under the bay bridge. jonah owen lam, a reporter with

our media partner the san francisco standard, has seen the video. >> the video i viewed shows bob lee or someone looking like bob lee walking up main from the bay bridge. toward harrison. and then he seems to lift his shirt up as he approaches a car that is stopped on the corner. the car then drives away. he falls to the ground. he gets up again and walks back on main the way he came on the others of the street and falls down. the blood that i saw at the scene also tracks with that video. reporter: lee minutes after emergency crews were dispatched but he died at the scene. a kitchen knife with a four inch blade was found in a caltrans parking lot across the street. >> i'm just overwhelmed to hear today's news. it is incredibly tragic.

>> george sybil was his former next-door neighbor in mission bay. >> we were next-door neighbors for three years and got closer. we spent a lot of time together. >> he knew lee as his time as squares chief technology officer and when he founded cash app. >> he touched so many lives and helped with so many startups. reporter: lee, a longtime member of the software development community had recently moved to miami. >> i did not realize how big he was in the tech industry. reporter: jake shields, a current american mma fighter was traveling to see lee in miami this week. >> i was flying to miami tomorrow. we had plans. it is weird. we were supposed to hang out tomorrow night. my mind is still processing it. this is not expected. reporter: close friends describe

lee as a generous person and the proud father of two daughters. >> he was charismatic, brilliant, a thinker, a doer. his dedication to his kids was first and foremost. bob was father of the year. bob was also a patriot and loved his country. reporter: investigators are asking anybody who parked in the rincon hill neighborhood tuesday morning near main street that may have dashcam more parked car video to share that with sfpd. for the i team, stephanie sierra, abc 7 news. ama: bob lee was the founder of cash app coin. before that he worked for square , the payment company renamed block in 2021. he was also a software engineer at google and an investor and

several companies like spacex. the 43-year-old is survived by his two young daughters. dan: san francisco mayor london breed says police are investigating what happened, adding that san francisco is prioritizing public safety including recently passing our budget supplemental so that we have the police staffing necessary to have more officers in neighborhoods and to investigate violent crimes when they do occur. i'm confident the statement goes on that when police make an arrest, district attorneys will do what is necessary to hold any individuals accountable for their actions. ama: a teenage boy has been charged in a shooting that killed two teenage brothers at an airbnb property in north oakland. he faces multiple counts of murder and attempted murder. police say he was charged as a juvenile since he was 17 at the time of the shooting. authorities believe he is a gang member. a second suspect has not yet been charged. dan: the search to replace the

ousted oakland police chief has not started yet according to our media partners at sf standard. the police commission is in charge of finding three candidates to recommend to mayor sheng thao who then has the final pick. the commission chair says it is still uncertain if the mayor would provide the funds for a nationwide search. it has been nearly two months since armstrong was fired. some members of the commission did not support that move. ama: more questions to the city of oakland about the ransomware attack as the city hosted an event to celebrate the reopening of city hall and more employees returning to in person work. lena howland is getting answers from city leaders about where the data breach stands now. >> for the first time in three years oakland city hall has reopened and that means more people are returning to in person work in the downtown area. >> this is the beginning of a new era, a new change. reporter: mayor sheng thao celebrating the return of these workers with the downtown activation event.

>> a lot of us are meeting each other for the first time. reporter: this comes nearly two months into a ransomware attack that has put at least 4300 current city employees and possibly thousands of former employees at risk of being hacked. wednesday we learned the last drop of data which happened just in the past couple days was much bigger than previous dumps according to mayor sheng thao. >> we understand this is a large amount of data that was dropped into the black web. we are still going through what has actually been taken. reporter: many city workers say they would like to see more transparency about the situation from the city's elected officials. >> it is a really big thing. i think it is affecting people's personal lives in ways an employee would respect. there can always be more transparency and action. reporter: mayor thao says as of today the city systems are only

85% back online and they are working to figure out how much information was released. >> i am equally upset. obviously, what is put out into the dark web cannot be taken back. i am frustrated. my information is out as well, too. what we are going to do is we have to be proactive. reporter: with ongoing budget talks, they are looking at further investing in the city's i.t. systems to ensure. this does not happen again. . something the city council president says she is already on board with. >> in our 2021 cycle i million to our budget for chief security officer and to make sure our systems are as up-to-date as possible. we are going to keep doing that. reporter: lena howland, abc 7 news. dan: a new team hitting the streets of the north bay with safety in mind. how it is offering an alternative to police and connecting people with the resources they need.

ferrera and juan hernandez as they hit the streets of san rafael. >> do you guys want shirts? reporter: their first stops of the day, this homeless encampment. they offered food and water and told folks about their work. >> we operate under 911 now. if anyone contacts police for you guys instead this team will come. reporter: today was the ribbon-cutting for san rafael's new mobile crisis response program. the idea is that instead of police responding to low-level calls related to mental illness or homelessness, the safe team will. san rafael police officer jennifer gamble is helping integrate safe into the department. >> traditionally first responders have been police, fire, and medical. maybe we were missing something there. we are hoping the safe team is the fourth tenant of that and that they can intervene on those types of calls.

>> this incident last san rafael police officer picked up a man dealing with a health crisis and brought him to a neighborhood in san francisco. police say with the safe team the response would have been different. >> they would have been able to connect him with the resources needed and transport him to the places he needed to go and free up the resources for police officers to do other things and handle more priority calls. reporter: the safe team will work with san rafael police. we saw firsthand how that would work when the safe team responded to a mental health call at city hall. the situation escalated and police intervened. >> it became evident this particular subject and at this time was going to need a higher level of intervention. reporter: but not all calls rise to that level and that is where the safe team is hoping to help. >> thank you for opening your area to us. reporter: liz kreutz, abc 7 news. dan: a coalition of human rights

and police reform activists in san jose is demanding answers about the case of a police officer's association executive accused of drug smuggling. joanne segovia is accused of importing and distributing drugs including fentanyl using her work computer. the group that gathered today at city hall is asking why officials are conducting an internal investigation instead of an independent investigation with community oversight. they also want city leaders to stop receiving funds from the association and they are demanding that segovia's mugshot be released. >> she is no susie she is no betty crocker, she is an international drug cartel person killing people in our streets. ama: still ahead, help and support for the flood survivors of paro from a community that has recently mourned its own tragedy.

ama: it has been almost a month since the levee breach that caused flooding in paro. many are still living in evacuation centers. today major relief from volunteers who traveled across the bay area in a unique way. >> the road to recovery is monterey county only recently received a federal emergency disaster declaration and many undocumented residents will not qualify for fema assistance. even with evacuation orders lifted many homes are unlivable due to toxins and extensive damage. >> it's very difficult for the kids. we can say we will car but for kids what will we do? collect some welcome relief was brought to the evacuation center they have been staying at. that helped coming on a double-decker bus stuffed with

resources, coming nearly two hours away from half moon bay. >> we have been through the same things with the floods and the tragedy of a mass shooting. our hearts broke seeing what was happening in pajaro. we wanted to extend our support and say we are here with you. reporter: the bus has only been providing help like this since december. one of the organizations behind it says it is helping distribute more than 250 backpacks and boxes filled with blankets and school supplies. a volunteer organization made up of san jose fire fighters also joined, to give kids more than the necessities. >> you think of shelter, food, and clothes but we forget about the children that are displaced and lost everything also. reporter: the bus is responsible for bringing physical donations to the community but one of the most important services they are bringing here is not one that is tangible. >> we are creating access for mental health. it is free. they can utilize it. we have amazing clinicians that
