43-year-old bob lee, it tech executive and father of two girls who was killed in a san francisco stabbing. >> i'm overwhelmed. >>'s dedication to his kids was first and foremost. >> everyone close to bob is in shock. there is no one who i don't think didn't love bob. >> doug dalton had dinner with lee on saturday, saying we specially was back in town for a business summit with the company he worked for, called mobile coin. he said lee's spirits were high. >> he was very excited about the way things were going with global coin. he was asked by -- excited to be back in the bay. >> at 2:35 a.m. tuesday, police say lee dialed 91 one, telling dispatch he had been stabbed but

not giving a location. a reporter surveillance video and said he saw what appears to be lee struggling. >> he seems to lift his shirt up and approaches a car stopped on a corner with its flashers on. the car drives away. he falls to the ground, gets up again and walks back on main the way he came on the other side of the break and falls down. >> those living in the area where lee was found said they witnessed heartbreaking scene. >> that looked vicious. i took her out at 11:00 yesterday morning and i saw the blood smeared right around here on the building. >> dalton, still saddened and confused, not knowing what happened. >> even if someone was trying to rob him or something of that nature, bob is one of those

people who, he would not have tried to fight them. he values his children too much. >> sources a kitchen knife with a 4 inch blade was found in the caltrans parking lot across the street. was that the weapon used? that is unknown right now. j.r. stone, abc7news. dan: thanks very much. a large part of the national conversation around the story has focused on the safety of san francisco. we wanted to spend extra time on this part of this equation. many top executives, including elon musk, called out the, quote, horrific violent crime on city streets. is there any truth to that? that can be the perception. bill scott offered his condolences to the family and friends of mr. lee.

at a meeting, the chief laid out facts. he said the case in san francisco is san francisco's 13th on the side of the year, the fourth within the boundaries of sfpd's southern station district, including mission bay. neighborhoods like the tenderloin and the bayview have had more homicides so far this year. the chief says every homicide case is a priority for them. >> our investigators investigate these just as we do any other loss of life. we know parents of cases get attention but all cases get the appropriate attention. it is appropriate for the public to know that. dan: one commissioner spoke to the swirling talk online today of a dangerous san francisco. he said it is too soon to draw conclusions from the case.

going to block her local judge from hearing any criminal cases in the future. >> because of the judge's inappropriate comments and conduct on two separate occasions, my office will file a motion to disqualify him from hearing any criminal case is being prosecuted by our office. ama: this comes after a couple weeks ago when the judge rejected a plea deal for a triple murder suspect. he faced 75 years to life for the murders. price offered 15 years if he pleaded guilty to a single count of voluntary mensa to her. after the judge rejected that, price requested he remove himself from the bench but the judge denied it. our i team reporter dan noyes has been digging into the case since the start.

february. there is an effort to raise money for a family from san francisco's chinatown that has been invited to the white house for the easter egg role. the family lives in what is known as a single use occupancy unit and can't afford the trip. they are shining a light on the family. the mother shared her struggle of trying to provide for her family. by lottery and the goal is to raise $6,000 to pay for the families airfare and hotel. we are happy to report within the past hour, they have hit the goal and then some by more tha $500. that is great to hear. dan: a famous chef and humanitarian is bringing his food to the bay area. jose andrew is opening a new
