like, this is not expected. he had two daughters as well that he loved. amanda: elevating the level of sadness for his loved ones is their understanding of who he was. a man they say would have given up anything of value to avoid violence. in the next half hour, we will detail video surveillance that appears to show him moments after he got stabbed, struggling along main street as a suspects or a suspect has still not been found. julian: meanwhile, tech industry, including elon musk, are taking to social media to express concern and frustration over safety in san francisco. jobina is at the live desk with how this is sparking a national conversation. jobina: on social media, elon musk posted violent crime in san francisco is horrific and even if attackers are caught, they

are often released immediately. san francisco police officers are responding. a police commission meeting yesterday, the chief offered his condolences to the family and friends of lady -- of lee said this case is san francisco's 13th homicide of the year and the first within the boundaries of the southern station district. that includes much of soma and mission bay. the chief says every homicide case is a priority to them. >> our investigators investigate these just as we do any other loss of life. i know sometimes the appearance of these high-profile cases get all of the attention. i want to make sure people know that all cases if the appropriate attention. it is important for the public to know that. jobina: neighborhoods like the tenderloin and bayview had more homicides this year so far using our abc 7 neighborhood safety tracker, we compiled the latest crime data available.

is looking to breathe new life into the area and says changes are being made to make oakland a more safe and inviting city. >> you will see them moving forward, we are closing streets in downtown during the day show that we are serious when it comes to public safety. part of that is shutting down the street so we can activate the space. kumasi: last month, the city returned to in person meetings. the requirement for masks inside city buildings expired at the end of march. julian: the reopening at oakland city hall comes nearly two months into a ransomware attack that has been at least 4300 current city employees and possibly thousands of former employees at the risk of being hack i sharing an updatsaying oy systems are back online. the city is figuring out what was shared. >> i am equally upset obviously, what is being put out into the dark web cannot be taken back.

kumasi: he rejected a plea for someone who faced 75 years to life. price offered 15 years if you pleaded guilty to a single count of voluntary manslaughter. after the judge rejected that, price requested he remove himself from the bench. the judge declined. in the south bay, coalition of human rights and police are from activists is demanding answers about the case of a police officers association executive accused of drug smuggling. the executive director is accused of importing and distributing drugs, including fentanyl, using a work computer. yesterday, group gathered at city hall asking why officials are conducting an internal investigation instead of independent investigation with community oversight. they also want city leaders to stop receiving funds from the association and are demanding the mugshot be released. >> she is nobody crocker.

julian: new developments in benicia, the city has declared a state of emergency. the main water line was damaged a week ago when the hillside

collapsed near southbound 680 and gold hill road, residents have been asked to cut water use by 40%. the city is pumping in water as a secondary source. the emergency declaration clears the way for funding for repairs, some of the money may come from fema. caltrans crews have been working each night this week to prepare 680. kumasi: $1.2 million for two flaring incidents at the benicia facility, one in 2017 and the other in 2019. both lead to orders for people to stay inside to avoid exposure to hazardous chemicals. the epa is requiring valero make improvements to the chemical processing as part of the settlement. julian: organizers been together large-scale events for passover are making sure people can celebrate the holiday safely. they hosted an event in the first night of the holy holiday yesterday organizers say aside from the fun festivities, security is a concern.

his office saying he quote will not appeal the judge's ruling and will comply with the subpoena as required by law. the subpoena could position him as a star witness in the special counsel investigation into alleged efforts by trump and allies to overturn the 2020 election results. pence was questioned about this last year. >> did you ever point blank say to the president i will not do this? i will not intervene. we lost the selection. >> i did, many times. jobina: fast forward to this week, trump arraigned on 34 felony counts in connection to a hush-money payments scheme involving adult film actress stormy daniels, just before the 2016 election. trump is the focus of a series of crucial inquiries, including a georgia grand jury, election interference probe and to others in new york state. as for pence, his testimony could be weeks away unless trump's lawyers tried to block it. pence's team says he will comply with the court decision.

probably -- bob lee in an upscale san francisco neighborhood, is the first reported homicide to take weights within the southern station of the police department. neighborhoods like the tenderloin and bayview have had more homicides. so far this year, according to the latest data from 2021, san francisco is close to the bottom of the list of major cities with 6.9 homicides per 100,000 people area austin, l.a., miami and many other cities had more reported homicides in san francisco. supervisor matt dorsey acknowledges the city can be safer. >> this is not a city where anyone should fear for their lives at 2:30 in the morning. statistics do not matter when it is someone you love who has lost their life in an incident in san francisco. ryan: as of april 2 this year, there have been 12 homicides, compared to 10 for the same time last year. robberies are up 14%, but rape

and human trafficking crimes are significantly down. ryan curry, abc7news. julian: bart police chief is stepping down, alvarez announced his retirement after 25 years of service with the transit agency. he has been the chief for the last four years. last month, he announced changes in service that include increased police presence on board trains. -- on bart trains. the deputy chief will step in as interim chief. kumasi: there could be more driverless taxes on the streets of san francisco by the end of the year. way mo is seeking regulatory approval to transport passengers around the city. if this is approved, they would join crews and operating self-driving taxis in san francisco and become the first city in the country to have competing robo taxi services. they've been operating driverless taxis in the city for a few months and there have been some complaints the cars make unexpected stops on city streets.
