"the doctor will see you now." but do they really? do they see all that you are? at kaiser permanente all of us work together to care for all that is you. >> building a bay ar bay area. >> at least one person is dead and a chp officer and another person injured. i shooting suspect is in custody and we learned within the last hour the suspect shot the chp officer who is there to serve an arrest warrant. roseville police say the suspect then took two people hostage, shot and killed one of them and wounded the other. there was some sort of chase that ended at a nearby park. witnesses described a chaotic scene at the park and the suspect getting into a shootout with officers.

>> a bunch of cops, probably six or seven started yelling to get down, get on the ground. this guy with a dog just kept going, not running fast, but trotting. all of a sudden, a gun came o and they started shooting, like lots of shots. >> the suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital. officials did not provide any information on the severity of the injuries. we are staying on this getting the latest for you. good evening and thank you for joining us. anna: we are also learning more about the death of bob lee. the san francisco district attorney told the abc7news i team she has received no information that lee was targeted. >> unfortunately, this is one that is going to take time to solve. we have to remain patient with

investigators until they conclude. >> have you seen the surveillance tape? >> i have not. dan: these are screen grabs from footage which show we walking down with apparent stab wounds. ama: investigators found a silver kit to mike with a four inch blade and a caltrans parking lot across the street but it is unclear if that was the weapon used dan: in the attack. dan:the police department is giving the bob lee case a lot of attention. ama: but what about the other homicides this year? >> all of them have been named by police, and all of them get the attention that perhaps they should receive. what we are trying to do is shed some light on the number of cases that are cleared and those that go unsolved. there have been 13 reported homicides in san francisco so far this year according to police records. the latest one which has

received the most attention occurred on april 4. the victim, bob lee, a tech executive. it remains unsolved. we took a closer look at the other 12 cases. 40-year-old gavin boston, a security guard was killed on january 4 at the japan center. two teens were arrested. police have been able to solve to solve two other homicide cases this year. one in the excelsior district in january, the other in the hunters point neighborhood in february. two people were arrested for those separate crimes. three more murders occurred in march. a mother homicide on april 1 in the tenderloin also remains open and active. killed on june 19, 2022 in the marina district while visiting

san francisco. a surveillance camera captured the suspect's car, yet no one has been arrested. there is a $50,000 work for any information. the family spoke to abc 7 news from arizona. >> the car pulled up, he would over, they had some brief conversation through the driver side window, he backed up and they shot him twice. >> between 2000 and 2008, san francisco investigators have an abysmal record when solving homicides and arresting suspects. in 2009 and the following years, the clearance rate improved, reaching a high in 2018 of 96%. by 2021, the last year this data is available, the solve case rate was 75%. it may be due to staffing levels. there were 2306 sworn officers in 2018 when the clearance rate was so high. in 2021, that number went down to 2129.

dispensaries are asking for the public's help identifying the criminals they say are terrorizing their businesses. the owners essay groups are robbing and burglarizing dispensaries all around the bay area fear into employees and making the community unsafe. they are fed up and demanding help. >> we asked the police commission to change their policies. we will continue to press for more protection emergency funding and increased security for cannabis operators. these attacks can be prevented and it is only a matter of time until someone gets hurt or killed. ama: dispensaries are attractive targets because they tend to work with a lot of cash because marijuana is still illegal under federal law. dan: the oakland mayor was sharing a new plan to prevent crime. she joined us on midday live today and says she plans to set up more policing sites around the city, especially in higher risk neighborhoods. >> i want to send a clear message. this is a whole new oakland under a whole new leadership.

reduce wildfire threat and restore the habitat of native plants by removing a hillside of non-native monterey pines which scientists call invasive. >> with these pine trees in place, one of our biggest concerns was that in addition to losing our shrub, we are a higher risk of an intense fire that is going to damage the infrastructure. >> here is what the hillside look like before the fire prevention project and after. smoke from the burn could be seen by visitors aboard the angel island ferry. it is all happening in the wake of historic rains for the bay area which left several roads on angel island heavily damaged. so why the need for fire prevention now? >> we have had a lot of rain which is great on many fronts but california is a place that is always going to be hot and dry during the summers. we always have to plan for that. >> firefighters cannot predict what kind of fire season california may be facing but one thing is for sure. >> rain years or drought years,

ama: a san francisco family living in a 100 square feet unit in chinatown will get to go to the white house. dan: they were chosen for a trip to the annual easter egg role. >> to every day, a one hundred square-foot unit in chinatown, san francisco, packed with all her personal belongings. she, her husband and their 15 and nine-year-old daughters have lived there for 11 years. they pay $700 a month to live in a 10 by 10 unit in a single room

the last hour. locally here, a lot of moisture in the clouds. none of this is really reaching the ground except north of us around lake and encino counties. drought monitor, it is updated every thursday. we have minor improvement to talk about in the past week around the state. looking at going from 45% to 44% in the lowest category. 28% to 25% as of today. some minor improvements and from 2% in the third category to .82 %. we are doing better around the state. still drought free and this rain coming in tomorrow is a one and done deal. we don't have to worry about it impacting the weekend travel and the we can holiday. temperatures in the 50's and 60's right now. today, we got up into the upper 60's in places like san jose. light showers arrive later tonight. wet and breezy for the morning drive. dry and much warmer for easter
