developments. dion lim, abc 7 news. dan: thank you. a tragic shooting that led to the death of a five-year-old girl is still under investigation. it happened on 880 while the family was on their way to dinner. zach fuentes has more on what we know. >> five-year-old eliana have turned six, but now her family is mourning her death. the family was on their way to dinner on saturday before 7:00 p.m. along 880. a vehicle pulled up and someone started shooting. a bullet hit her. >> we had an officer on an unrelated traffic stop on the side of 880 in the fremont area, approached about 6:40 p.m. by the victim's family. they said their daughter had been shot. the five-year-old girl, she was transported to a local area hospital and succumbed to her injuries.

>> right now, we still don't have suspect information. this was one of two separate shootings at multiple agencies across the east and south bay. before the deadly shooting that killed her, fremont police heard from a pedestrian who said a car pulled up to them and shot at that person after some kind of confrontation. that call came in at 6:37. after a pursuit on highway 17, santa cruz police stopped a car with three people they believe were connected to the fremont shooting and they were arrested. chp is not making any connection at this time between the fremont shooting and the deadly freeway shooting. santa clara university professor dr. thomas says there is not a particular profile of somebody who might shoot in a public place like a highway. >> impulse control is another variable, and another variable is people influenced by those around them. egging them on to do something. the third is people that have kind of don't have any feel for other people. >> as for the five-year-old girl, her family says she was looking forward to easter and

was excited about her birthday. she was close to her siblings, especially her brother, who was 11 months in age apart from the. > i think about the ripple affect, and if there is a sibling, that child will do with this the rest of their life in terms of trauma -- will deal with this terrace of their life in terms of trauma and ptsd, and other people involved. >> chp is asking anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. ama: the man accused of a former san francisco fire commissioner will be charged this week with the attack. garrett allen dodi faces several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon. he allegedly beat a man with a metal pipe last week and he suffered a skull injury. the victim of postures friends would like in with attempted murder -- the victim's friends will like him charged with attempted murder. >> they replaced part of his goal with the metal plate. he has a broken jaw.

took 35 years old. she was walking in this underground tunnel when she came face-to-face with the suspect before being violently attacked. >> she was pushed or struck from behind and knocked on the ground and sexually assaulted. >> when she screamed for help, the suspect grabbed her phone and took off. a passerby called police. meanwhile, her phone was found less than one mile away, within 20 minutes of the attack. >> crime and the tunnel is rare and a daytime sexual assault is extremely rare, and it is so brazen to be in this tunnel on a sunday. >> the victim suffered a laceration to the back of her head and bruising on her neck, but she was back working with detectives to develop a sketch monday morning. >> it is wild to me that someone would randomly a taxable mike that.

two were police officers who exchanged gunfire with the gunman, killing him. one officer is in critical condition after being shot in the head. he had just graduated from the police academy 10 days ago on march 31. >> evil should not t to prevail and take over our city, and we let it happen. i am encouraging everybody that we continue to do the good work and we will continue to keep the city safe. dan: swat teams are scouring the home, looking for evidence of a motive, but law enforcement sources tell abc news that the gunman had recently been notified and was going to be fired -- that he was going to be fired. ama: a texas court ruling has been appealed that would halt the most common method of abortion in the u.s. it comes after the raised concern about access to the drug, more than -- available for more than several years.

>> on friday, a judge in texas ruled the fda wrongfully approved a drug and use for 23 years. the pill is used in more than half the abortions performed in the u.s. an antiabortion group filed a suit, seeking to block access to the drug. >> the fda has to go back and be transparent with the public about the studies it relied on to make its decisions. >> legal experts say the judge's ruling was not on whether people should have a right to access the pillar not. >> 5 million people have been able to safely end their pregnancies using this drug. >> if the texas judge's ruling goes into effect, drug manufacturers will have to halt production and distribution in the entire u.s. market, impacting millions of women. it comes nine months after the supreme court overturned roe v. wade. the biden administration reproductive rights groups expressing their outrage. >> this decision further strips
