with the ransomware group that hacked into the city of oakland's network more than two months ago. the information of thousands of city employees has been a week onto the dark web. >> approximately 80 for the city systems are back online. employees can access the internet, phone lines and the call center. sources tell us initially 10 gigabytes of data was leaked. > there we are told at least 600 gigabytes have been leaked. stephanie sierra is pushing to get more answers from the city. she is with us. >> there is a lot developing. three weeks ago we asked the mayor how far along the administration was in informing the thousands of people impacted from the breach. we asked again this week. still no response. it got us wondering exactly has been leaked on the dark web? we talked with many victims and it turns out this is not the

first time they felt wronged by the city. as the city of oakland and used to grapplehis inional hackett compromising safety ofands of people, victims are still being left in the dark. these individuals have very different stories but they all share one thing in common. they filed claims against the city alleging injury. >> she got diagnosed with a broken arm. >> this is katrina taylor sitting with her boyfriend greg. she filed a claim that was denied alleging opd falsely arrested her at popeyes. >> it was a case of mistaken identity. i thought she was a caucasian female with the same name who had a warrant. >> siobhan brown also filed a claim alleging she was falsely arrested by opd but it was denied. >> that was reliving the worst night of my life. >> funnily alleging opd fired a

bullet throu h wui apehe had tof pocket. both claims were denied. >> they should pay us back. >> the people we spoke with span from disabled veterans, social workers, alleged victims of police abuse and members of the air force sergeant justin gray currently deployed in qatar. he filed a claim with the city after he says his property was rated to arrest a tenant. other claims were leaked some citing careless driving documented they sustained injuries. >> he turned right into my vehicle. the city settled her claim but the city denied his claim who had his car totaled. >> they almost hit me. i'm still traumatized from it. >> little did these people know the time filing these claims would backfire with this. >> my information was found on the dark web. >> basically somebody hacked my

account. >> it is a lot of anxiety building up. >> somebody my name without me knowing. >> all their personal information including social security numbers, driver's licenses, home addresses and phone numbers posted to the dark web and once it is there, it is always there. >> this is crazy. >> very untrustworthy. i am devastated. >> how did it get leaked? >> more than two months since the hack happened, oakland city officials remained tightlipped on the potential impacts for those involved. we learned last week the latest leak was much bigger than the previous ones. this is why the abc 7 i team consulted fiber security professionals to download the leaked data to get a better idea of what kind of information is being exposed. >> we are still going through what has actually been taken and

dropped into the black web as you know. it takes time to download. we are waiting for the full downloading of this information. >> it took us three to four hours to download it all. the files available on the dark web included folders titled social security confidential data, scanned bank statements, internal probationary claims and lawsuits. oakland policed department confidentiality among highly sensitive personal data. on a scale of one to 10, how bad is this? >> very high. i will give it eight or nine out of 10. >> amid is engineering at san jose state university. >> if the city was a business, this would be like the business is going to be gone because so many people are going to go after them and sue them to the degree they are going to deplete every resource they have. >> how long do you think these victims will be haunted by this? >> it depends on how bad has

your account been used, your social security, your birthday, your address and how may times they use it and how many accounts they open. >> three weeks ago we pressed the oakland mayor for answers. for showing up to this press conference we were denied five interviews. how many people of those who have been notified already they have been compromised are you 50% of myth that process? do know if you are almost done with that process? >> that is going to be an ongoing process. we have notified the current employees. we are now notifying employees who have left the city. >> sources tell the i team former employees are calling city hall upset because they still have heard nothing. we wanted to see for ourselves. at random we called dozens of people whose information was compromised. have you heard anything from the city informing you your information has been leaked? >> no. i have not heard from them. >> no. >> i never heard anything. >> no i haven't.

>> i have not received any notice from them. >> how did you hear about it? >> it is an invasion of other people's privacies. >> i can't trust nobody. >> adding insult to injury for all these people like katrina who is battling stage ii cervical cancel. now dealing with possible identity theft. >> social, serious. who is to say when i wake up from my surgery going to wake up with anything? >> a law passed in 2017 no longer required immigration status be disclosed in litigation. this means all of these victims did not technically have to release their social security numbers and other information when filing these claims against the city of oakland. that is something we're going to be looking into next.

possible. >> her father stayed with the car until someone came back with a spare key. > the robbers to drive by at least five times because every time he gets close to the car the car lights up and starts blinking. she says her boyfriend was at home and immediately called a locksmith to change all the locks. we checked with abc 7 neighborhood safety tracker about crime in oakland. last year the room within 2600 robberies and 11,600 burglaries. she says she is coming forward because she wants more people to be aware of what to do and what not to do. >> i think all around the bay area it is not that safe anymore. >> to see how safe your neighborhood is use the neighborhood safety tracker. it is an interactive tool on our website you can use to look up different crimes in different cities. she used it to check on crime in oakland. we have data for san francisco, san jose and we are working to add more cities.

>> nearly two dozen sexual assault suspects are under arrest in san jose taken into custody during a month-long sweep of outstanding warrants are the san jose police department. >> these cases have been present as a range from 2012 until february of last year. that goes to show you how these individuals have absconded from justice trying to evade law enforcement. it did not happen with our detectives working the cases and making sure we brought them to justice. >> the suspects were wanted on a range of charges from misdemeanor sexual assaults of felony cases. palo alto police have arrested a sex assault suspect accused of attacking a woman in the california avenue underpass on easter sunday. this attack happened at 2:30 in the afternoon. police have identified the suspect as a 34-year-old. they are not releasing his mugshot.

fault. you should've had your credit cards protected. i went, wow. >> turns out her card has the new technology that lets you pay by tapping it on a payment terminal. those cards have this symbol that looks like a series of curved lines. the payment terminal will pick up the radiofrequency in the card to process a one-time payment. the readers are only supposed to charge when a customer taps the card or holds it within a few centimeters of the panel. safeway did not say why the readers charged her card wallet was in her purse or how often this is happened telling us a customer may inadvertently place their wallet or purse over a point-of-sale terminal causing the payment to be applied to a credit card stored inside the wallet. we take corrective action when this occurs. as this technology is present in retailers of all sizes the situation extends beyond safeway. >> this is something that is

towed. oakland police did arrest two people after a barrier was put up to stop the eviction process. it is kind of hard to see the difference. oakland is offering shelter to anyone and everyone at the encampment who once it. plans call for an affordable housing project to be built on the new site which is near west grand avenue but work cannot start until it is cleaned up. >> the city of san francisco is blaming pg&e from within $41 million in expenses and delays related to several affordable housing projects. lena howland talked with city officials about this issue. mission street and france avenue is the excelsior district first affordable housing project in almost 50 years. complete with 137 units. construction is almost done but it has one problem. no electricity. >> people cannot move into these buildings until these buildings have power. >> the san francisco mayor's office of housing and community development says the same thing

is happening at a total of 11 affordable housing projects across the city with expenses and delays adding up to $41 million. this office is going back to the board ofor mil in additional fus for the mission street project alone. >> that is taking money away from building more affordable housing just to do a transformer upgrade for this building. >> pg&e blames recent storms saying we are working hard to recover from those systemwide impacts to complete customer protection projects but the city director of housing development says the issue stems from a 2016 ordinance which made the san francisco utilities commission their permanent power provider instead of pg&e. >> new buildings need to infrastructure to attach to the pg&e grid. those improvements are generally paid by pg&e as a retailer
